OK, I realize this post is a year old, but how do you make a whip finisher out of a paper clip?
  4. I'm new to tying, and just found a great recipe, that calls for vernille. How different is that from chenille? Will it make a large difference in action, or can I get away with using chenille? I'm curious how much difference it makes if I substitute one item for something else in ANY recipe. I suppose if it works, I'm a hero, and if not, I'm just another silly fly tyer who got lazy! (By the way, is "tyer" a word? It doesn't look right, but neither does "tier"!)
  5. (Mrs. Ducky) I just tied about 15 flies and forgot to do that! Well, hope I don't break any! (Never have, but famous last words and all that...) The worst hook stuck/barb not smashed story...I'm a teacher, and earlier this year one of my students got hooked...at school...on a classmate's hat hook! Very nasty. They weren't sure how to get the hook out without more damage than already done! It was a freak accident, but still it brought home the point! (Pun intended!)
  6. Howdy all , Thanks for all the help.. 7. Just a question - My wife and I are bringing our son Devon (he is 7). Is anyone else bringing their children? I don't need a name tag-I'll be the big guy with no neck! (Mrs. Ducky would wear one, but then she wouldn't be able to disown me!)

  10. This is Mrs. Ducky (Tami) and I'm a little confused. How do I tie a half hitch knot around the eye? Does it really matter what kind of knot I use if I secure it with fly cement? And is bread raw toast or cooked dough???

The backing thing i dont think i got with the pkg . thank you so much for taking the time to help me understand , I know its gonna be frustrating but when i learn probally better than spin fishing or plunking lol , is backing and tippit line expensive ? and i cant get all 3 , so what would be my best choice for taney?
  17. so there's line , the green stuff , then the leader and then the tippit??
  18. Howdy all... I got a Fly rod for christmas from my wife and son . It's a shakespeare http://www.shakespeare-fishing.com/product...oducts.php?p=73 combo kit from walmart , its 8 feet tall and has a shakespeare 1094 rod. It came with line and also a tappered leader , im sure its not the best but im hoping it's up to par . The good thing is this was an inexpensive start to fly fishing for me . Friday my wife and i are buying a fly tying kit from Lileys fly shop (Wapsi http://www.wapsifly.com/wapkits.html )its not the deluxe kit but 1 right below it . I was wondering the types of flies we should tie , We fish at taney and roaring river . Also i need to know if theres anything more i need for my kit , Im also buying a strike indicator and some other stuff friday from lileys . So i guess i need tippets , not sure what that is and leaders , if any of ya know any links that will help me it would be awesome . lol i would like to be able to bring the fly pole monday (new Years day) and kinda have a clue LOL . thanks
