I am almost out Dirk's Jigs. If anyone has any that they are willing to sell I'm looking to buy a whole bunch but will buy however many you've got and pay a good price. I might consider buying some small jig heads and tying my own if anyone had any small jig heads with weed guards that they are willing to part with. I've attached a picture below of what the jig looks like. Thanks guys!!!

I went to my favorite Ozark stream for a short half-day trip on Saturday, Oct. 26th. Got there by about 9 a.m. and caught a 12" smallie on my first cast on the new Z-man Crawz on a ned head. Fished around with a ned rig for a while and caught maybe a dozen more smallmouth and one small largemouth. A few nice smallmouth, a 15", a 16", and a 17". Rain started and the water started to rise fast enough to watch. I have seen this water rising start an absolute feeding frenzy on what I just call creek baitfish: small suckers, darters, top minnows, brook silversides, and many others, I'm sure, that I've either misidentified or don't know the name of; so I switched up to a jerk bait. My favorite creek jerk bait is a Rapala x-rap, color is dependent on water clarity, but its the best creek jerk bait I've ever used. First 10 minutes with the jerk bait and I caught probably a 6 or 7 more fish. This time with a 3 lb largemouth mixed in with the smallies and a couple smaller largemouth. Moved on to the other end of this pool and caught a nice 16" smallie and another 3 lb largemouth on the ned. Switched back to the jerk bait there with no success and moved back to where I started. Waded out really deep to get to some of the sections of the pool that I hadn't reached yet. About 3 twitches in I got slack-lined on the jerk bait and immediately thought I had snagged a rough fish. Then a big old LMB shook his head at the surface. When I was fighting the fish I thought it was like a 4.5-5 pounder. A big one, no doubt, but I have caught them that size in this stream before. When I landed this fish my jaw dropped. It was a 6.64 lb largemouth that was 23" long. Biggest stream fish for me for sure! I fished for another hour or so catching a few here and there with another 16" smallie. I had to head back to host a Halloween party though and ended the day with 25-30 bass. Amazing trip and I can't wait for some more creek and river excursions as all of the lakes are fishing so tough still!

I fished out of Coffmann twice last weekend on the Lower end. One day fished up the Gravios a little way. I found the bite to be pretty weird Friday started out fishing the backs of creeks around the mouth of the Gravios. We caught 5 shorts, a 3.5 pounder, and had a 4 pounder follow my jig up to the boat and not bite. We fished the backs of like 4 or 5 creeks and only caught them in two. I caught a 2 and a half pound keeper and another short in another creek. We then headed out the main lake banks/points that were getting hammered with wind and the typical 5 foot bat traffic waves that LOZ is famous for. We got to see a couple of ships and caught some striped bass (whites.) Justin lost a big walleye on a spinner bait and we caught a few keeper spots. I ended up catching another 3.5 pounder on a squarebill very shallow on a point. Not really a great bite overall but still nice to caught a couple decent ones. Sunday was our first club tournament of the year out of Coffmann. Me and my partner couldn't get anything going. Caught 2 keeper spots on the main lake. 1 keeper spot in the back of a pocket on a craw and the big one (4.59 lbs) that I caught on a jig flipping docks. That was it. Super tough day. The guys that did well though fished from the mouth of the Gravios to the dam and fished the walkways of docks. Most of them probably came on a shakey head or a jig. They said they caught all of their fish in the morning. Tough bite overall. Tough boat traffic overall. About got my teeth rattled out of my head by some of those cruiser waves. Beats a day in class, though, like right now. Tight lines everyone.

Thanks for the tip! The james is the only arm of the lake that I haven't fished. I'm dying to give it a try!

Yeah I don't know where these people learned their manners but I can tell ya that they must've been brought up different than me. Any how I know the lake has got a ton of pressure this year because of the MLF events there. I was hoping up the river it would be less hammered on but oh well. I like the lower end/KC area the best anyways. Table Rock is still my favorite lake in the U.S. I'll be back as soon as I can.

Finally made it back down to Table Rock for the first time since May. Water temp was 80-84 in both areas of the lake that I fished. Caught some fish but the bite definitely is not great yet; at least not in the weather conditions that I got to fish. Friday Justin and I fished the lower end and had a good half-day. We started fishing at 3 and fished until dark catching 13 lbs for our biggest 5. Justin caught a 4 lb largemouth on a jig and I caught a 3 lb smallie on a single swimbait. Nice cloud cover but kind of windy. Saw multiple single busts but not what I would call schooling activity in these low light conditions. Largemouth was about 30 foot deep and smallie was in about 5 foot of water. I also caught a huge rock bass on a jig, kind of a neat fish. Jig and single swimbait were the best baits today. Saturday we put in at Viola in hope of having an amazing numbers day. There was a boat on every point from Viola to well past the mouth of the White. Significant schooling activity on the points for about an hour in the morning but all we found, caught, or saw being caught were small spots. Started fishing channel swing banks with a jig and I caught a 2.5 lb largemouth and Justin caught a very skinny 17 inch 2 lb smallmouth. We tried multiple different patterns up the Kings and in the White and just couldn't find them. Could catch one or 2 here and there, primarily on a jig, but never found em' biting good. We were almost completely unable to fish deep points because of the wind and the insane amount of boat traffic. It was worse than LOZ in my opinion. Wake boat driving between you and the point you were fishing, pontoons driving within 15 yards of us, just not for me. I hope it snows next week so all those folks head in for the year. We had like 9 keeps on the day and probably 30 fish but that's if you count those 6 inch spots and I'm not sure they count as fish. Sunday fished the dam area again with almost no success. Caught one keeper all day got absolutely throttled by the insane winds that we had and only caught 10 bass all day. Many very small. All in all a fun trip. Can't wait to get back down there.

The chatterbait was a white jackhammer head with skirt that my buddy ties but its pretty much white with a dark grey back that has a little purple in it. The squarebill was a Strike King ratting one that was chartreuse with a black back. -
Ran up the Gravois and fished some of everything from noon-6:45ish (Friday the 13th with the full moon.) Many people would probably call it junk fishing. We fished main lake points shallow and deep, secondary points, shallow docks, deep docks, backs of pockets and steep shaded banks; caught fish on all of them. Justin caught a 5 pounder and I caught a 5.5 pounder on back to back casts. His came on a jig and mine came on a worm. Those fish came off of a dock. We fished some shallow wood and caught keepers on squarebills, chatterbaits, and jigs. There was shad in the backs of pockets but all of the shad that we saw were the small ones like 2-3 inches and there really wasn't a ton of it back there yet. Mostly isolated balls. Nothing like what you see on the main lake on the lower-end. We did see some big shad on the main lake schooled up but almost all the fish we caught out there weren't very big. I think the fish that we caught shallow could've been feeding on bluegill but that's just a guess. Justin tied that jig skirt on an Omega jig head and I think it definitely looks pretty sweet. Anyways, we had 8 keepers on the day and about 17.5 lbs for our best 5. It was a fun day all in all. Caught fish on top water once the shadows got long. I'm heading up the Niangua's tomorrow to try if I can replicate it. we will see! Good luck to everyone fishing the BFL Super today and tomorrow. I hope we didn't sore-mouth your fish and if we did we put them right back lol. Tight lines everyone.

That first pic that you posted appears to be a nice little meanmouth (spotted bass smallmouth hybrid) notice the vertical lines beneath the lateral line? Looks like a fun weekend!!!

Great Top Water Action Between the Rain Drops
David Goddard replied to David Goddard's topic in Lake of the Ozarks
It's tough to say really. I guess if I had to say I'd pick the lower end but I like the amount of boat traffic much better up any river arm -
My partner and I headed down to the lake on Monday, the 26th around 11:30 and got on the water just in time for the storm to hit. We hid in an open slip till about 1:30-2:00 o'clock and fished for like 3 hours but still caught 12 keepers and probably had around 12 lbs for the best 5. Almost every fish that we caught was schooling and came on either a spook or a 1.5 square bill. Shad everywhere and fish busting everywhere. Caught them 2 at a time once and had another double where half of it came off. It probably helped that it was cloudy. Top water action was fun but size wasn't great. Had one 18 incher that probably only weighed 2 and a half and lost one at the boat that was a solid 3. These summer bass are so skinny. Fun time, cant wait to get back out there. Tight lines everyone.

I headed to my favorite smallmouth stream last Sunday with my girlfriend and our cat. The cat even willingly took a couple swims between kayaks. I thought that there would be enough water for this particular float to avoid most of the dragging. I was WRONG. We definitely bit off way more than we could chew. Didn't get off the river till like 10:15. That being said it was a super fun day and caught a ton of fish. I caught more smallmouth than anything else probably like 40, then around 20 largemouth, 6 or 7 spots, 1 gorgeous meanmouth I wish I would have photographed but didn't, and quite a few goggle eye as well. Had a little shore lunch of some goggle eye. I caught a few on top water and everything else on the ned rig. Fishing was simple, fish below every riffle and they were STACKED. Had a great time but next time I will not be floating such a long stretch. Tight Lines everyone!
