  6. I always heard men took up with fly fishing so they could own a long rod but I had no idea of the size of the problem. Size 24 sheezzz...
  7. I dont live near a park lake anymore but, I used to. Advice depends on how you want to fish. First thing to remember is light line, 6 lb will work 4 lb is good and 2 is better. If you are fishing with artificials small Roostertails, mini jigs, small plastic worms and cast until your arms hurt. Jig and bobber works well and slows down the casting required for other lures. If bait fishing then powerbaits applied with lots of patience. Most important get out on the water a lot, talk to other fishermen and learn how to catch them.
  8. Wait. Did Terry say infinate or was it infamy?
  9. Man! You guys are tough. You are right SIO3, it is an oldie but like I said I had some time on my hands and was just goofing off. I thought it would be worth some ribbing or a few Boo's and hisses or maybe even a few chuckles. Ohh well I know when I have been beat. Of course I would never concider trying to top LMW. He went straight to the humor hall of fame with his story.
  10. HMmmmm. Still sitting around without much to do and decided to take another crack at unseating Beason and/or Snagged in Outlet 3 from the humor throne. If I don't do better this time I will bow in reverence to their greater mastery at the art of humordom. So with out further ado here goes: Our hero, the fly fisherman I'll give him the name of Beason, in the bar after a long day at the grueling task of chasing trout and catching few hoisted his beer and said, "Here's to spending the rest of me life, between the legs of me wife!" This of course won him the top prize and the admiration of the men in the the pub for the best toast of the year as well as the admiration of fly fisherpersons everywhere! Our hero, Beason, went home and told his wife, Ms. Beason, "I won the prize for the Best toast of the night" She said, "Aye, did ye now. And what was your toast?" Beason said, "Here's to spending the rest of me life, sitting in church beside me wife." "Oh, that is very nice indeed, Beason!" Ms Beason said. The next day, Ms Beason ran into one of Beasons buddies name of MR Snagged In Outlet3, on the street corner. Snagged, remembering the toast, chuckled leeringly and said, "Beason won the prize the other night at the pub, after a long day of fly fishing and little or no catching, with a toast about you, Ms Beason." She said, "Aye, he told me, and I was a bit surprised myself. You know, he's only been there twice in the last four years. Once he fell asleep, and the other time I had to pull him by the ears to get him there." Disclaimer: All characters are ficticous and any resemblence is strictly coincendental unless they admit it. May cause eye watering May cause laughter May cause drowsiness May cause the uncontrollable urge to go fly fishing May cause the uncontrollable urge to go spin fishing May casue an uncontrollable desire to go wading in a cold river during cold weather May cause shortness of breath, stomach distress, fly tying, urge to go wading below a dam in a freezing river at night May cause paranoiad delusions of monster squid and baby beavers or any other disorder known to man.
  11. I guess great minds think alike cuz I have called them Petafiles for years. Didnt know anyone else did. HEh heh
  12. Uhohhh. I heard there is a fine or something like that for getting Beeson going. Or was that taking him out to play then not putting him back in his 'special place'. Actually those of us who have RA call what I am having a "Bad day" so I reckon your right it is a slow day and I am sitting here in my recliner wishing I could do something about it. One of these days I hope to live on or very near the water so when I have a bad day I can just sit in my recliner on the dock and fish. Maybe I should become a permenant tourist at Lillys. Not to far to the water there, easy walking and some of those seats he has would do a good job of subbing as a recliner. What do you think Phil?
  13. I put a shortcut to here on my computer. I noticed that it is oaf. In wondering if my computer was being a smart Alec and calling me names I decided to look up the defination of oaf. Here is what I found: 1.) oaf n : an awkward stupid person [syn: lout, klutz, clod, stumblebum, goon, lubber, lummox, lump, gawk] Source: Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary (1913) 2.) Oaf \Oaf\ ([=o]f), n. [see Auf.] Originally, an elf's child; a changeling left by fairies or goblins. (#2 had a subset that said for defination of Changling - See picture of Terry Beason.) I am not sure what that meant. That was it. No more definitions. Now I dont know about ya'll but I dont like being called neither of those definitions. Ozark Angler Forum Member would seem better. Upon reflection tho I decided that didnt work because who wants to be known as a member. Hmmmm There has to be an answer. I thought about simply being an Ozark Angler Forum but...what is kind of sense does that make? Besides Ozark Angler Forums are all owned by a person and who wants to be owned.... Then I thought ah haaaa I got it. Ozark Angler Fisherman! Cool. I exclaimed to my wife that I had solved the problem but she said I was being redundatidgit.... now not only is the computer calling me names but so is my wife. Back to the dictonary to see what re-don-it.... re-done-it...ughhhh what 'that word' meant. I could tell I was gonna have to give her a piece of my mind but she apoligized, said something as to how she shouldnt fight a war of words with unarmed people. Well I could tell she realized her mistake and forgave her....not everyone is perfect. Later.........Back to the problem. There just has to be a better defination of being a poster on this forum. We cant all be oaf's can we???? I think its time us oafers unite and stand up and take our rightful place in society. We should profess our oafdom and force websters dictonary to amend their defamatory remarks about us. At least those of us who arent true oaf's that is..... Input?????
  14. Thanks Phil and Dano
  15. In addition to the proposed anti-gun laws our new legislators now want to reinstate the draft. Any thoughts?
  16. Happy T-Day to you to Ron. I hope you and yours have a wonderful and safe Holiday.
  17. Terry: I dont know what you are fishing for but you sure got me worked up and ready to go get em'. You sure you are after trout or are you wishing again. I know, I bet you got all worked up from using your Visa card on 1-800-Hot-Babe again.
  18. I have an old Lews Boron Rod that is great for trout, or crappie, or bluegill, or redear. I hope nothing ever happens to it. I bought it about 15 or 20 years ago and have not seen another one like it for years. In my opinion 6 ft is the minimum rod length that makes sence 7 to 9 ft is even better. You can hold the line higer out of the water with a longer rod and it will protect light line better. More eyes on the rod are better than less as they will keep line slap to a minimum thus you get longer casts. Shimano reels are best in my opinion with Diawa running a close second. Another thing to keep in mind is that reels with a larger spool diameter doesn't have as many line twist problems as the reels with really tiny spools. They also cast better.
  19. I agree with you in the above. I am not on here to start a fight with anyone. Least of all a fellow fisherman. You are right we here on OAF are not going to solve this problem. I was/am just trying to discuss what I feel is a potentially serious problem. No kidding Wayne. It is a biaarre world for sure.
  20. Ron: What you are saying is most generally right. Most people tend to judge others by their own beliefs. If a person believes in mercy then they think others believe in mercy. People tend to think it is a birthright of all humans to believe as they do. These people who believe this way would of course be incorrect. We americans only need to read some of our own history to see where this very thing you are talking about has, to use your words, "bit us hard" several times in the past. The people we are dealing with today do they same thing. They judge us by their beliefs of which Mercy is not a part of. The only way to deal with terrorisim is absolute resolve because, just like Japan in WWII they understand nothing else. Japan would not quit until they understood that if they did not lay down their arms and leave us alone we were going to wipe them out of existance. Is this something we, Americans wanted to do? No. It was what we had to do when we when our hand was forced. With the Japanese we, the American people, showed absolute resolve and refused to show fear in the face of the enemy. We did what we had to and we won. Right or wrong the American public was not resolved to win in Vietnam and we didn't. There are a lot of good and decent Muslems in the world just as there are a lot of good Japanese and Germans. During WWII we just had to deal with the extremists. In this discussion we are referring to extremists not the decent people. We have to decide if we want to win this war on terrorisim. If we arent willing to have the same absolute resolve with the terrorists today that we did with the Japanese then we are not going to win this war and we will never again be safe in our own country. I may be wrong and I hope that I am but I am afraid that last Nov 7 we showed that we are not resolved to winning. I hope the people put in power realize they were wrong, realize these people have to be dealt with, swallow their pride and take care of business. As of right now however, I am afraid that our lack of resolve is going to 'Bite Us Really Hard'.
  21. My shoes are only one size bigger but as others have said it depends on the maker. In another brand I might need 2 or even three sizes bigger or might not need oversized at all. Best thing to do is try them on. I found out the hard way that breathable will not keep you warm like Neo. If you are going to go with breathable wool socks and good thermals (not cheap cotton thermals) are must have items.
  22. Exactly right Ron. They did it before and they will do it again. I am afraid next time will be really bad. Unlike some people in our country I see no percentage in being a standing target. To me our only reasonable option is to hunt them down, hold them by the nose and kick their backsides where ever we find them. I dont know about you but it embarasses me to hear people say that the terrorists are beating us. I mean come on....we havent even lifted one finger or our military might in dealing with those people. They cant whip us if we dont let them. In the words of FDR "the only thing we have to fear is fear it's self" and unfortunatley some people either seem to be or would have us running scared. Wayne you nailed it right on the head. This is a perfect example of what I was saying to Al earlier. You and I were at complete odds on the Stem Cell initative but never got nasty with each other. Now here we are in complete agreement on a different subject. Just because people dont agree on something doesnt mean they have to be enemies.
  23. Al: I said I wasnt going to say anything else on this subject but I think the above quote deserves a reply. I have never called or characterized you as anything. I dont know you well enough to charatize you as anything negative. I dont agree with you on this subject and think you are probably young and misguided but just because we disagree on a subject doesnt mean I dislike or disrespect you in any way. I could meet up with you on the water sometime and have a good time visiting and fishing. As to my use of the words 'dems' it is just a abbreviation; like red or blue state. In my life I have voted Democrat, Republican and Independent. I am a swing voter and I vote for who I think is the right person for the job. In the case of this election I am upset with the current democrats because I feel they put the security of our country and our troops in jeapordy just to gain political favor, I think the press helped them with this and I belive both of them to be WRONG for doing that. I would be upset with anyone who pulled this kind of stunt regardless of political affiliation because I believe the security of our country and troops is deadly serious and therefore, should not be fooled around with. Anyway I just wanted to clear the air on that.
  24. Yeah, it seems some people just have nothing better to do with their time than mess things up for others. Maybe they should learn to fish in their spare time.
