Poison Ivy tips?
gonefishin replied to Freefall's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
You are right. Roundup will kill it. No doubt about that at all. Roundup is non-discriminate, it will kill almost all vegetation. I was just thinking with it being around a pond he might want to save the grass. 2,4,D will kill the broad leave plants and leave the grass. If a person really wants to kill it out; get some Ground Clear. Then re-seed with grass later. -

If you want to save the grass around the pond you might want to concider 2,4,D or better yet if you can find it 2,4,DP It won't kill the grass but you would probably have to spray more than once to kill the Poison Ivy root system. -
Fishing Hurts - Peta Link on OA Homepage
gonefishin replied to gonefishin's topic in General Angling Discussion Archives
When I saw it I sure got a laugh out of it. At first I thought it was probably a spoof. But no. I clicked on it and sure enough it went to the Peta-Fishing hurts site. -
Loo: This gets more to what I wanted to discuss. I probably should have been more articulate in my topic. Anyway there is no taking back all the development on the upper 8 miles. It is there to stay. Do we really want or need more major commercial development on the lake?

What do you think some of those options are?

That is a beautiful fish. Great colors.

Drivers at Bass Pro/Branson Landing
gonefishin replied to strangercreek's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
Is it just me or have people become extremely rude in their driving behaviors. It seems to me an awfully lot of drivers could care less about others who are out on the road, or in a parking lot. They act like they are the only one that has the right to be there and that they deserve more than anyone else. Whatever happened to just being a decent person and respecting others. -
The energy gain for refining gasoline is .805% where the energy gain for producing ethanol is 1.34% Ethanol is substancially cheaper to produce than it is to refine oil. Ethanol only has 82,000 btu per gallon vs gasoline at 114,000 so your car is going to take about 25% more to drive your car the same distance so more fuel will have to be delivered to the pumping stations and it will take more electricity to pump that fuel both of which eat into the energy gains in production. However these costs do not entirely wipeout the gains.

Poison Ivy tips?
gonefishin replied to Freefall's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Sorry for the mixup. I wasn't reccomending that you ingest poison Ivy. I was just relaying what a Dr had told me. LIke you I am leary of the procedure. That is why my son hasnt done it as advised. Again sorry I should have been more specific. -
I agree that the use of fuel is not really a government problem. I was talking about the road taxes the government collects on each gallon sold at the pump. Our government is not going to allow the use of any fuel, in more than expermental amounts, that will threaten to reduce the $$ collected. If people start seriously making alcohol at home to burn as fuel the government will start sending revenuers out again. They used to check us on the farm all the time to make sure farm use (non-taxed) gas and diesel was used on the farm and not in our personal vehicles. We had to keep receipts showing regular fule purchases and the farm use fuel had an addative in it so they would take samples from our cars just to make sure. Same thing will happen with E-85 and Bio Diesel.

Poison Ivy tips?
gonefishin replied to Freefall's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
I guess I am lucky as I have never had problems being allergic to Poison Ivy. My son however is seriously allergic. I took him to the clinic earlier for a shot and the Dr on call told me there is a very good homeopathic (spelling?) remedy. He said for me to collect a small poison Ivy leaf every spring and put it in a Gelatin capsule and then have my son swallow it. Supposedly the Poison Ivy cannot bother his digestive tract so there is no fear there. He (the Dr) said by doing this it will burn up all of the andegins (spelling?) that make him allergic to Poison Ivy and he will have no problems for the rest of the season. The Doctor who told me about it swore it is entirely safe but we haven't tried it yet. I did talk to a woman who does it every spring. Says she has not had a problem with Poison Ivy for several years now. I have looked it up on the internet and there is some controvercy about it. Some swear by it and some say don't do it. -
I lived close to the old Amco refinery in Kansas City when I was a kid. Man it could get LOUD (meaning really smell bad) around there at times.

Agreed on the corn. That is why I said ect. I understand they can also make ethanol from wood and grass. A few days ago I was reading that alge can produce more gallons of biodiesel and ethanol per acre than anything other crop. Of course farmers would have to build ponds and lakes to raise it in. Possible even increased habitat for wildlife and more fishing opportunities from producing our own fuel. Now that would be cool.
-
Agreed but, I doubt that we (the USA) could grow enough corn ect that they would ever be the only fuels offered at the pump. I do think if we reduced our dependency on import oil by say 30 or 40 or even 50% we would see the prices of fossil fuels drop drastically.
-
How many has the Meramec has claimed many this month?
-
I think people should demand more bio fuels. Corn oil for diesels and ethanol for cars. It would be good for the enviroment, good to help reduce our need for overseas oil, help reduce the prices of gasoline and help the farmers. Hmmmm I wounder who is really against this.... the government don't like the idea because they are afraid they because the fuels could be made in ones garage and therefore Uncle Sam might lose a few $$ in road taxes. Has anyone (other than me) noticed how much tax is paid per gallon of gas at the pumps alone? Sheezzzz.

Shuffling / Night Light Fishing
gonefishin replied to gonefishin's topic in General Angling Discussion Archives
jOrOb: Excellent points. Especially the one about shuffling being inadverently outlawed byt the wording of the law not the spirit of the law. I have made the point several times that by making a law against shuffling one could be opening a pandoras box that could be used to outlaw wade fishing all together. -
I signed a lot of trout stamps myself and like you Dano, I miss them. I remember the Bull Shoals Lake Trout only for some reason I thought it was Table Rock. I was a lot younger then and fished for them a couple of times with a friend. They would get big.

Those are some really nice fish. I wish I had caught them. Great.

Shuffling / Night Light Fishing
gonefishin replied to gonefishin's topic in General Angling Discussion Archives
crappiefisherman: Those are good questions and ones that have been debated on here several times. I don't see where any amount of shuffling a person can do with their feet can be near as damaging as cranking up 4 generators. Also Taney is not a natural river enviroment that people are trying to protect it is in fact a man made lake that does not sustain natural trout populations. It has to be stocked and maintained by man therefore the question of natural enviromental damage doesn't seem logical to me. Then there is the discussion about the ethics involved in fair pursuit of the fish. Some contend that 'shuffling' should be illegal because it is not ethical and that people only do it to catch more fish. Isnt that the same thing that people who use night lights do? This topic is of concern to me because I belive that if laws are written banning shuffling for ethical reasons then it runs the risk of opening legal questions about the use of night lights, chumming in any form for any type of fish, could even bring the use of live and/or scented baits into question and could be used to outlaw wade fishing all together. Seems to me shuffling is more of an ethical question that should be left up to the ethics of the individual fisherman. It should be educated; not legislated. -
I dunno I think there is a nickle limit on here. ) Some stories about the blueridge would be great. Welcome

Nah. Go for it. I don't think she wouldn't kill you. Besides it is always easier to get forgiven than it is to get permission.
