  1. No. I have never fished there. Any idea how much out of state permits are? What kind of fish do they catch in there? Bud
  2. I like fishing with microjigs; I use them a lot. What I dont understand and want to know is why microjigs are so blasted expensive. If it is the cute lil tube they come in they can keep it as far as I am concerned. Bud
  3. Personally I dont see a thing wrong with having walleye in TR. The carrying capicaty of TR isnt met and so there is more than enough available food for more fish. I think they should look stock Walleye and Hybrids both.
  4. DUH I guess a location would be good wouldnt it. I am near Springfield MO. I would like to do some grabbing on Taney. I am sure there are other places would be good too. Bud
  5. Taney would be the best place to go but if you cant go there then Fellows Lake - you could probably catch some bluegill or crappie there maybe a walleye or muskie if you are lucky.
  6. I am looking for some good places where a person can go grabbing from the shore? Anyone care to share some locations? Bud
  7. Yes. Thanks and please do keep posting. I fish Stockton a fair amount and like Ryan said, there is little information. I am always loking for a place to catch Walleye and big Bluegill.
  8. Good question. Where is a good spot to start for some Big Taney Bluegill?
  9. I told BB about an obscure fishin hole here in MO where you can catch some really nice Hybrids (Wipers)on fly rod. You can wade (except for during high water). I am interested to see if you can pry the location out of him. Bud
  10. Don: Welcome and I hope you enjoy it here. There are a lot of good people on here and some really useful info. EccE: Golf? I went golfing once. When I was there I seen this really fishy looking pond..........that ended my golf game. I let my brother inlaws play on and went and got my rod and reel - turns out that little place was loaded with big bass. I think I had more fun than they did. Anyway it is just to difficult to golf when a person is constantly distracted by those ponds they put on the courses. he heh Bud Bud
  11. Phil: Thanks. I know exactly where Greensburg is. I used to go out there to hunt Phesant when I lived in Ks. I had family who moved out to that area when my dad was a kid obviously I never new them. Anyway the gentleman in the picture has an uncanny resemblence to my dad and uncles. Makes me wonder if he isn't related somehow. Bud
  12. Nice one. You really look familiar. You wouldnt be related to the Wilsons or Coberleys would you? Bud
  13. I have always filleted my trout. I have had a lot of people tel me you cant fillet them. I am glad I didnt know that before I started doing it. Anyway just fillet them like you do crappie or anything else. Bud
  14. Sorry I didnt get to reply to this sooner. Unless there is a compelling reason I rarely use anything over 4 lb for crappie. This time of year, when the water gets really clear, I have even been known to use 2 lb or even 1 lb. As to brand I like the new Berkley Vanish. There are other brands some of which I am sure are good but I am not familiar with them. Bud
  15. That is a nice one. Wonder what he weighed. I was looking at some old Field and Stream Magazines one day and seen some articles from back in the 1940's and 1950s where they used to catch Alligator Gar like that in Arkansas. They said fish over 300 pounds could take a leg off a man faster than a regular alligator. I don't know if there is anything like that in Arkansas anymore. Good thing there arent fish like that in Taney. Make a person have to look around when wading.
  16. Seth: Thats a nice mess of fish. Looks like I oughta be fishin with you. Phil: My opinion: They are alright fried but it is best to score them first. Problem is to score them you have to leave the skin on and so the red meat can't be trimmed off. Like most fish the red meat is strong tasting. Trout are no exception, true Trout don't have a lot of red meat but if you trim it off they have a much improved flavor. I think Sucker are better canned because they can be filleted, skinned and the red meat trimmed. Prepared this way they make right tasty patties, chowders or fish soups. I have tried them after they have been frozen and found I did not like them at all. Freezing makes the meat mushy ans gives it an off flavor. Bud
  17. Brian: I am not taking it the wrong way. I like to discuss the issues. I think discussing them with an open mind gives me a better understanding of what is going on. I agree with you right now, there are a lot of fish in Taney but, I also know there is a limited amount of forage and as the browns get bigger the MDC will have to slow down the numbers of rainbows and browns stocked to allow ample food for the bigger browns. I'll not say that is all bad but it means there will be less numbers stocked. It also means that in the future there will be fewer catchable fish. I guess it really shouldnt matter to me as I am not a dyed in the wool trout fisherman anyway. I only fish for trout in the winter. In the summer I am after other types of fish. Especially those "Remarkable Redears" Bud
  18. I have used the so called superbraids and dont like them at all. I didnt catch as many fish, had too many problems with abrasion and tangling/digging in. The extra expense just wasn't worth the extra hassels. Depending on what I am fishing for I like either plain old mono or flourocarbon. I use flouro where there are abrasion problems and/or when I want to get on the bottom. Flouro just sinks faster and stays down better than mono.
  19. You may be right and I hope that you are. Time will tell. Bud
  20. You both could be right. I may just be touchy on the subject. It just seems to me that we have been misled by the MDC. They said by increased the licence fees, reduced the limits and promote C&R fishing so the fishery will be better with more fish and larger fish. So far all I have seen are lower stocking numbers and no change in stocker fish size yet I pay more for licences and can keep reduced numbers. I catch no more fish than I did say 2 or 3 years ago and the fish I do catch are no bigger than they were before the changes were made. Some changes I have noticed are larger donations to the states general fund, larger donations to the Federal General Fund, (neither of which have anything to do with fishing) new vehicles for MDC, new air planes for MDC, raises for MDC employees and a new parking lot at the hatchery in Branson and more money being spent on things other than fishing. It seems to me that fishermen are footing the bill for a lot of other outdoor sports and for things unrelated to outdoor sports. I didnt notice them reducing the number of deer/turkey killed per tag or raising the price of the deer/turkey tags as much as they have for fishing. In fact I have seen just the opposite. I also haven't noticed them pushing catch and release hunting. Ridiculious I know but a deer/turkey can only be killed once per tag... Think about it. If they would do the same thing to deer/turkey hunters they have gotten away with doing to fishermen then deer/turkey hunters would all be buying not only expensive but, multiple tags for each animal, and would be using cameras to hunt with rather than guns. No, I am not against hunting. In fact just the opposite, I am a hunter. I just happen to prefer fishing. It just doesn't seem like the changes they have sold us fishermen on not only haven't happened they are vastly unfair and unfairly expensive when compared to other outdoor sports. No, I am not mad. Just my opinion, for whatever it is worth, that us fishermen get short changed an awfully lot. Bud
  21. Was it ever decided if this was a legal lure for fishing the trophy area? The way I read the code it looks to me like it falls under the soft plastic bait catagory, which of course would make it illegal in the trophy area. I am interested in knowing if MDC has had any imput on this. Perhaps the MDC needs to clairify the code. Thanks Bud
  22. Hmmmm. 6000 for the year certainly doesn't seem to be many Browns for Taney. I thought with the increased prices and decreased limits they were supposed to stock more. ?? As usual I am confused; for a while I actually thought we (fishermen/taxpayers) were actually going to get something we paid for.

    Redear

Anyone on this forum ever fish at Council Bluff Lake? I hear the Redear fishing is really good there. Bud
  24. Personally I think Branson Landing is the worst possible thing that could have happened to Taney. MoCarp nailed it right on the head. Other than a few more access points for fishing, I am against any further type of commercial development on Taney.
  25. I guess for some reason I associated grabbing with gigging. I know when grabbing/snagging, no different than any other fishig, an illegal fish is going to be caught once in a while, However a person should not purposly target them. I snagged for spoonbill with my uncle for years, we caught hundreds of spoonbills over the years but I can't remember us ever catching an illegal fish. I heard of it once in a while but it never happened to us. Thanks for the reply.
