I would sure like to give them a shot down there sometime. That would be a blast. In the meantime I will keep hunting that big redear here in MO. I haven't fished Bush Whacker for years. Like you say there used to be a lot of gills in there; still are from what I hear. I have also heard it has some good Redear populations.... I dont know but, am willing to give it a shot sometime.

Any weather condition that you can get away to go fishing in. A better question would be, what are weather conditions you find unfavorable for trout fishing. -----To which my answer would be watch out for Lightning storms, Tornados and Earthquakes. I don't know for sure about Taney but, I do know if you used that in the wrong area of Bennet you could be fined because it would be concidered a soft plastic lure. I dont have a regulations book right now but it seems to me that Mo regs say it has to have real or synthetic feathers and/or fur to be a concidered fly. Hence glo balls and San Juan worms are concidered a fly because they are made using synthetic fur. Bud

Fox: They usually don't run real deep. In fact sometimes it is amazing how shallow they can be. I have caught several on fly rod. For Fly Rod I generally use scud/sow bug patterns and wolly worms/buggers. Usually dark colors. Pound for pound Redear fight harder and are stronger than any fish I know of. Big Redear are a real blast to catch on a 3 wt rod. I agree with carp....leave the crawlers at home. Red worms are better if you want to bait fish for them. Bud

Nice ones MoCarp. I have never fished Lamar Lake. I have heard there are some good fish in it tho, as your pics prove. The biggest Redear I have caught was in Table Rock Lake. I didnt measure her but she weighed nearly 2 lbs and was full of roe. She was still in the lake when I left. Bud Fox: I have never fished Lamar Lake so I will have to let MOCarp answer that question. As to the best time to catch Redear it is anytime you go fishing. ) Seriously the spring run is the best time to catch them but, Redear dont mind hot weather so you can catch them on most any summer day. They typically arent very deep either. My best lures are small jigs regular and tube, micro jigs, Sow Bugs and Scuds or if those dont work then I get out my secrete weapon.....plain old garden worms from a Hills Brothers Coffee Can. Bud

Nope. That one wasn't one of mine. It seems I am always the one taking pictures of other peoples fish, never the one getting pictures of mine taken. I bought a digital camera and am resolved to take more pictures of fish that I catch. Even if I ain't in the picture. Not that anyone would want a picture of me. Actually I have some pics of fish I have caught that I need to get scanned. The digital will make it easier. Bud

No doubt. I was down at the local lake and seen the fish were all wearing sunglasses.

I wish I had a fast connection so I could see this. Here where I live there is only dial up. Hopefully in the future we will have fast access.

I have an idea. We could start a topic here on the forum about strippers fishing for stripers. Of course we would have to have photos. It could be an educational topic in the casting section showing and discussing the pros and cons of the various casting forms. Should create a lot of interesting conversation.............I think. Of course the 'flyrod for strippers' question would have to be a totally different topic. With all the different speeds, actions and weights I am sure there would be some heated conversations with a lot of opinions of which rod is best for different purposes. What do you think? Bud

You are doing a great job and have a great forum. I am not sure about some of the members though because they still haven't posted what the perfect fly rod, reel, line and fly is to use in Taney. You know the outfit that catches nothing but 20+ inch fish all day long.

Heh heh. Man that does sound like a real hoot. I guess they catch bigger fish on Fly ROd when Salt Water fishing but, for Chetopa Ks that has to be about the ultimate. Fish size that is.

Went fishing at Fellows Lake for a few hours today. Caught a few smallish bluegills, 2 small crappie and one Muskie (about 6 inches long). Water is really low and fairly clear concidering the rain we had a couple of days ago. Not a lot of fish and no Redear but all in all it was a good day. Like they say a bad day on the water beats a great day at work anytime. Bud

My new years resolution was no more coulda, shoulda, woulda, didnt day's. It isn't even out of Jan and I already broke my resolution. Guess time will only tell how the weight loss resolution will go. ) Bud
