  1. They finally ran a little water today. Tomorrow would probably be a good time to try it. Steve
  2. Zach, PM sent. Steve
  3. Flyfisher33, They do normally have a draw down for spring rains, but right now the lake is around 6ft below normal, and we are about 9" below normal for annual rainfall. I have never fished below Eufala. Steve
  4. Steve, Put me down for a dozen "Clouser Minnows". Steve
  5. Flyfisher33, I haven't fished in two weeks. There has been no generation from Keystone Dam since the last time that I went. We need water coming down from Kansas to get the river back to fishable conditions. Steve
  6. Bill, I caught that one on Sept. 3rd. It was 27" long and had a girth of 13". The river was at around 300cfs at that time. I don't have any pics of the river at the level it is at now, but it is drastically different than at the levels that you are used to. Steve
  7. LOL! Yup, I meant Keystone, not Tenkiller. I do have your cell#. I haven't done much striper fishing lately but I plan to do quite a bit this winter. Steve
  8. Bill, I fished below Zink Dam this morning. The water is extremely low, due to no generation from Tenkiller in over a week. There are gar, buffalo, and huge shad everywhere you look. I only caught one small striper, 2 channel cats, and a couple of gar. We need some water coming down from Tenkiller before the Arkansas will be worth fishing. Steve
  9. I have not been on the Elk recently, but this time of year can be very good if the weather cooperates. I floated it last October and did very well. Foam hoppers, small poppers, clouser minnows, woolies, and crawfish imitations should produce lot's of smallies and sunfish. Steve
  10. It can be very good. As is the case with all tailwaters, generation can be a factor. Steve
  11. I fished the Zink Dam area Sunday morning. There are tons of gar in the river right now, and they are willing to play. I landed 4, the biggest being 44" long, and had a few others on. I did manage to catch 1 27" striper along with the gar. Steve
  12. TL, They taste like a cross between bald eagle and spotted owl. Steve
  13. "How do make them taste like crappie?" Turn them loose and go catch some crappie! Steve
  14. Chris, There are a few caves in the area that offer guided tours. The Ozark Wonder Cave, the Bluff Dwellers Cave, and Truitt's Cave all are worth visiting. Steve
  15. Kenny, It is a small world. I also grew up in Miami. I graduated form MHS in 1971 and moved to Tulsa in 1980. I am also a smallmouth junkie, grew up fishing the Elk River and Indian Creek in SW Missouri. Steve
  16. Brian, The Land Cruiser belongs to my fishing buddy. I'm not sure what model it is, but it is a nice ride! I drive a 96 POS GMC Sonoma. Steve
  17. kubrent, Yes, the fish were a blast to catch, and to eat, too! Actually, the shirt is a take-off on the dancing bears shirts. It has dancing dogs on it and a caption that reads "grateful dogs". I though the shirt was appropriate since all four of our Shelties were adopted from pet rescue organizations, one from ARF and three from PAL. Steve
  18. This is the result of about 3 hours fishing one morning on Lake Pawhuska. I usually only keep 8 or 10 for Aleta and I, but this was for a fish fry for 7. Steve
  19. Wayne, You got that right! Another of my favorite streams in that area is Indian Creek. It's been a couple of years since I've fished it, I need to get back over there soon. Steve
  20. Jim, Welcome from another okie. I grew up in Miami, but have been in Tulsa for 26 years. I am also a smallmouth junkie. Elk River in SW Missouri is my favorite smallmouth stream. Steve
  21. Pawhuska Lake is west of the town of Pawhuska, just off of Hiway 60, which goes to Ponca City. The town of Pawhuska is west of Bartlesville. Steve
  22. gonefishin, I have been catching some redears mixed with the bluegills on Lake Pawhuska in NE Oklahoma. The bluegills have been good sized but the redears are even bigger. Here's a pic of a few that I kept for supper. Steve
  23. Phil, I've caught a lot of slab bluegills and redears on rubber-legged fox-squirrel nymphs. I usually tie them in #12 or #14, with a 1/8th" gold tungsten bead. I tie the rubber legs in behind the bead, madame X style. I have also been doing well with a woven bead-head nymph with rubber legs tied on a #10 scud hook. I have been tying them in chartreuse/black and orange/black. Both colors have been working well for me. Steve
  24. Seth, I don't usually paint eyes on my jigs but I often do on streamers. I use a small dowel rod or a round toothpick to apply the paint, depending on the size of the head. Steve
  25. Dano, I googled "ugly zebra midge" and came up with this. There are pics. http://www.bransoncourier.com/article.php?news_ID=523 If you click on "The Old Seagull's Small Five" you get bigger pics of the flies. Steve
