Had a great time at Roaring River thurs, fri and sat.The river looked better than I have seen it for a couple of years.I used my fly rod the most and fished the fly zone because it had more fish and bigger. The first 30 min of each mourning I caught em on black mini wooleys, then later on black and red ants and also beetles. In the afternoons I used white and pink thread jigs without an indicator and did pretty good.Sat mourning after the first 30 min the bite got kinda tough, tried everthing, then I decided to try the only zebra midge I had,bam that done it I caught 8 before one nice one snapped it off, then it was time to go. All in all a great trip except for slipping on one of those big riprap rocks and busting my tailbone.Seen one boy fall in at the first hole in the fly zone, said he decided to take the water instead of the rocks. To bad he had his cell phone in his pocket and also about 4 of his friends were right there to razz him. Tried to fish the C&R area.Seen one guy up there in waders,I thought, awwh I don't need waders, wrong,I wussed out in about 30 min. Some real nice fish in there though. KFF and Rusty, wish I would've known you were there, would have liked to have met you guys. TL

I will be down 7/5,7/6 and 7/7,will stop by Tims to get the latest catchers. This is the first time this year at RR for me,I think I enjoy their campgrounds more than any other. And the fishing, well, topnotch.Anyone else gonna be there then?

Its been a while since I have seen any kind of report for the daytime. Was just curious as to whats been catching them?

Seems theres more going on here than just not liking the way MDC is managed,I don't know what, and really don't care.I just don't like speculation that something is bad or corrupt without proof. That so called cookbook is no different than any other state or federal publisized budget.Give me some proof. Brownieman you didn't use to work for the News Leader did you?

Yea, my brain calculator was off, don't you ever get a brain cramp,I get em all the time, especially on numbers.

GF,thats exactly what I posted as the tax,1/8 of 1 cent. It would be interesting to see what Missouri, licenses, and State parks would be like if that tax had never been passed.
-
I don't know how greed and schools got in to this,no one is going to complain about tax moneys going to schools, but when a certain city builds a multi-million dollar addition to their city hall(thats way behind and over budget) just to keep up with a sister city that has done similar things, thats an abuse of taxes. 30-50 years from now your going to see a drastic change outdoor activities, with all the building and expanding, land being gobbled up every day,the land that the MDC has acquired will be like gold, and will be there for our grand children and great grand children. And don't forget, they (MDC) have done this with a 1/8 of 1 CENT sales tax.

Jc,I wouldn't know about the road to hell and don't plan on finding out. My eyes are wide open and what I see is a government entity that does more for me personally, being a sportsman (per tax paid) than any other, from city, county, all the way up.Just stop in Nixa some time and buy something, then figure up how much of that sales tax goes where. The land that MDC has put out there for all of our use is just incredible.Just go down to Busiek State forest some time, you will see bikers, hikers, bird watchers, gun shooters, horse riders, dog walkers, campers, lunch breakers, waders, photographers, hunters and nature lovers just to name a few. They aren't perfect, but just tell me one government section that is. Fish fast and hard.

I agree with Jd and Al,and griping about air conditioned trucks, does anyone know of any the federal, state or local goverment vehicles that aren't air conditioned.I usually throw back all my Trout but I'll start saving mine for you Brownie if you want me to.

I forgot to say anything about the Hybrids that came up about 8:00.We heard a thrashing noise and looked down stream just up from the no boating buoys and the Hybrids were literally coming out of the water after shad. The area was about a half acre in size and right in the middle and lasted about 20 min.It looked like Piranhas only in the 5-10 lb range. So they are in there, and theres more than what I thought.

Choclabs,Truman State park is one of the best camp grounds I have ever stayed at,and its close to the dam so if you wanted you can fish the lake or the tailrace. It also has a nice swimming beach for the kids to swim! Have fun.

Slider and the guys did so well Thursday night it wasn't hard to talk me in to going last night, boy I'm glad I did. We(Slider,Harper, and me) got there about 7:30 PM,didn't start catching fish good till about 9:00.We all 3 limited on Whites by 11:00 PM and left at 11:30.All together we had 45 Whites,10 Crappie, and 1 nice 19 inch Walleye,56 fish, not to bad for 3 1/2 hours fishing.Caught most of the Crappie on white or pearl sliders and most whites on purple beetles. After I had my limit of whites I kept trying to catch some more Crappie, and just couldn't keep the Whites off my lure. Fun night, the fishings really good, don't know how much longer it will last. The water was up from thurs night.Be careful on those rocks I slipped and went in up to my knees.I took my camera and naturally we didn't catch any big fish.Sorry the picture is a little fuzzy, had it on the wrong setting.

You had better do as she says Bill, you know these women have a way of getting back at us if we don't do as they say,but I'm sure you rule the roost around your house, so no problem right?
-
jd,unless you are just sticking your head in the grill or smoker and breathing real deep,I say just enjoy, because we all gotta go sometime, some sooner, some later.

Seems that Rainbows are harder to get in,just stop and think how many times you've had a Bow spit that fly or jig, but, there's the beauty of those Browns and they do pull harder,I'd vote for the Brown!

Truman Tailrace
Tightline replied to Jenny @ The Station's topic in Truman Tailwater/Upper Osage River
2 of my fish buddys and me went to the tailrace Thursday evening. We struggled to catch a fish until about 9:00 pm.We ended up with 40 fish all together,20 Crappie ,18 Whites,1 Channel and 1 Flathead left at midnight. Our bunch have been taking some nice big fish,17 and 13 lb flatheads on plastic, and several hybrids in the 7-8 lb range,so I took my camera, and of course we didn't catch any monsters, but I am gonna post a pic of our mess of fish any way. We caught all our fish on purple and mainly black swimming minnows, beetles, and sliders,1/16 ounce heads on north bank close to the handicap dock.Fishing has been better but still had a good time,Oh and don't tell Slider we fished in his honey hole while he's gone to Louisianna. By the way we got checked by the Mdc agent for the second time this year,so I would make sure your legal if you go up there. We were. -
Jim you are correct in saying that most of that was washed in during the last rain.It (the trash) came from Springfield,Nixa and Ozark, their parking lots and ditchs.Just ask the county road crews, they have been cleaning out culverts and ditchs clogged with trash and debris for 2 weeks now. Modot uses prisoners to clean up our highways why can't the DNR use them to clean our streams. If they start paying people to clean up that would just encourage more littering in my opinion. We all need to do what we can, take a trash bag along when floating, educate and condem.I picked up beer cans at the second little parking lot east of the hatchery on Taney 3 times last summer and you can bet if I catch em they'll get an ear full!

Way to go Martin!!Tell us more, don't need any secrets, but were you casting, trolling or jigging? How many boats were in it?No easy task winning a Wally tourney.Congrats. Your first name isn't Roland is it?

Grandpa Tom, when there isn't any tape measure, scales or a clicker counter around I think we all know it can be real easy to fudge a pound on a big fish or add an inch or two and even add 1 or 2 to the count.Anyone who says they have never done it,well, maybe they can walk on water also!I understood the quote.
-
Was at Riverdale bridge last night the water was unbelieveable, and so was the smell,it smelled just like raw sewage.I guess Nixa and Ozark thought it would be a good time to flush their treatment plants out!

Thanks Murdoc, isn't it funny how a piece of paper can become a treasured keepsake.Like you ,I will keep that old tag from now on.I imagine someone will find some of our old tags one of these days (long time from now I hope.) and decide they'll keep it to remember us. I am one who is kinda hard on the MDC at times, but in reality they have kept the prices down on all kinds of tags and licenses and are one of the best conservation dept's in the country.
-
Found this in some of my dads ole stuff,Aug 29,1964 Roaring River State Park.I can remember this because it was the last Bible camp our church had down there,I was 7 years old. Got to give MDC a big way to go here, the price hasn't went up that much.I would like to see one older than this one just to see how much the tags were.

FF,2 keeper wallys are like having 1/2 dozen of anything else.Glad to hear theres someone who can catch em down there this year.It sure hasn't been me. Those shad raps are good lures. Good report.
