I agree about the locally tied flys working.Thats why I usually stop at Anglers and Archery, there flys work, and they really are very helpful and friendly.
-
Zander, you get em at Lilleys,I called and ordered mine.Or next time your down there just stop at his shop.

Got to the water at 7:00 am both days.Fished from the rebar down to the point.I had a wooley tied on so I tried it,and had my best day so far with a fly rod.I ended up with 28 Sat and left at noon.Seemed like the harder the wind blew the better they hit.Had alot get off because of poor hook sets.Olive was the best color, but my bigger fish came on black.Had a monster on right before I left and let him break me off. Today was different had to work much harder, ended up with 21 total, but I fished till 3:30 today, there were several hours today with no fish. Some of the Rainbows had brilliant colors and were fat as pigs.I just can't seem to capture the true colors of these fish with a camera. I always try and look for OAF hats when I'm fishing, well I finally seen one today.Dano it was really great to meet you, hope we can talk and fish again some time. TL

Thanks guys,as soon as I get set up properly I will be tying my own. What I need the most is a large magnifier with a light around the back side, but for now I'll keep the fly shops in business. That Rusty midge did well for a while, they would hit it some times before it would sink all the way, of course they may have been hitting any kind or color of midge at that paticular time. Thanks again, Tightline.

I caught a nice 18 inch Brown last tuesday afternoon that had a midge in its upper lip and it had almost completely grown into the fishs flesh. So much for them rusting away in a few days.I tried that little midge and did very well on it for about an hour, then decided to take it off before I lost it.Took a pic of it when I got home. I went to tie it on last friday mourning, when it was so cold, and dropped it in Taney. So if any of you guys can tell me what its called I'll get more.Is the bead head copper that has just tarnished?I know its not a very good pic,but its the best my camera will do.

I agree,in fact, they could use all the money below the dam and it wouldn't hurt my feelings. They could make some places for the fish to get away from all the fishermen. They are under constant attack when the water isn't running and need a place to hide. They also need some kind of channel made up to the new #3 Brown Trout steps.

Nice mess of fish Bittle, that big one looks like a flathead, nothing better to eat than them babys.Next time hit Slider up for some beetles, they work pretty good to.
-
If we could just get some of these Amazon trout stocked in Taney it would solve our shuffling problem, since these fish are extremely sensitive and will attack movement. But then I guess we wouldn't be wading either I don't think midges are gonna do it for these fish. We'll have Leonard make us up some (Leg of Lamb) flys. This is suppose to be a picture of the new world record Piranah.

Rusty,Slider and me discussed this on the way home the other night. We were thinking about how much fun that would have been to fly fish for them.We both believe that on the south side close to the water drainage and the walk way with the railing that goes down to the water a guy could use his fly rod.The water was not running and we actually stood on flat ground with some pea gravel on it.But if I go back,I will try to take pics of both sides. No way you could fly fish on the north side with all that riprap behind you, unless you are an excellent roll caster.

Most of the Whites were really good sized, from 14-16 inchs.I caught a few in the 12 inch range and kept them,to me the smaller Whites are better to eat.But they are all pretty good to eat, especially those CRAPPIE!!!
-
Well I got the Crappie that I went for and had a blast. We started about 8:30 pm and fished till 11:40 and left. The Crappie were just thick and pretty good size 10-12 inchs.Of course you caught 4 little ones for every keeper.Thats the first time I have ever done any good on the south bank.SLIDER and Harper had the Whites cornered for a while, and they were using SLIDERS SECRET lure,(a blue Beetle). Here's a pic of our pile of fish.

SLIDER,I WILL READ A GENUINE POST FROM A GENUINE FISHERMAN WHO'S LEARNED WHAT HE KNOWS FROM YEARS OF EXPERIENCE,AND NOT FROM A BOOK OR THE INTERNET,REGARDLESS OF HOW IT IS WRITTEN.

Its just not fair, you guys have been slaying them the last 3 weeks while I have been stuck at home doing (home improvements).Well I'm all done so maybe next week I can go.They'll probably quit bitn now.

Looking for some Pro's and Con's
Tightline replied to Chief Grey Bear's topic in General Angling Discussion
Chief,I purchased a spool of Fireline a week after it hit Basspros shelves and have been useing it ever since. It was a well kept secret of mine for a while.I've had no problems at all, frayed or not frayed, warm or cold weather,it out performs every line I have ever used. The only time I don't use it is clear water, sunny,no wind days.It last forever seems like. Good luck trying it out. -
Crappie colors/PLASTIC
Tightline replied to Dutch's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
They are called Slab Hunters at Truman tailrace,Jenny sells them at the Station in a wide variety of colors. They work good for Crappie and are very popular with the locals up there.I like pearl and chartreuse in the medium size the best. Not much to them,a very simple lure, but at times they are the only thing that works up there. -
There are 2 codes, one is the code of law,the other code is a moral one, acting as a guide to independant action within the limits of the law.It is possible to obey the law and yet destroy its spirit and purpose by evasions and infractions of the moral code. The moral code being (Sportsmanship). I have seen way too many lately, that know nothing about the moral code as well as the code of law!

Thats a good ole bigin there, bet that was like reeling in a Trident sub being as deep as they were. The strength and brute force of those fish is unmatched. Can't wait till I can get after them again. They say if you ever catch just one of them you'll get that sickness =(Beaver Fever). Great fish, that will make a beautiful mount.
-
Zander,I rarely use anything heavier than 4 lb test.I will use 6lb fireline at Truman Tailrace because you never know when you are going to hook into a big hybrid. 4 lb fireline is my favorite for Walleye,it cast great and has no stretch, which you'll need for a good hook set.If the water is really clear and the sky is bright with no wind,I go to 4 lb green Trilene or flouro. But when conditions are like that I'm usually not fishing. On Taney nothing but 2 lb test for me.Hope this helps. TL

Rusty, that sounds like bad news for fishermen, maybe it won't pass.Just curious as to where the 100 mil in private donations came from? From the pictures I seen on TV a couple of weeks ago it seems Miami needs a Dam or some kind of burm or levee. That was alot of water, has it went down all the way yet?

The last time we had that much water during the summer at the Pothole they caught Wallys all summer and fall. This has really been a strange year at the Pothole, for all speices. Thanks for the report Zander,I like to hear em,good or bad.

Jeremy, nice fish, whatever size it was.I think you took it all wrong though,I think Phil was saying is we all take pic's of fish the same ole way.I took one of my sons Brown Sat,and that fish doesn't look near as big or pretty as it really was.I think if I had just snapped a pic with it laying in the water on the gravel it would have been better. We didn't have anything to measure his with, and he held it up next to his chest, and also let his tail drop.I thought it was a good 20 in or better but now after seeing the pic I don't know. Keep cool Jeremy.

Finnally talked my son into going to Taney Sat mourning. It was his second time Trout fishing at Taney. He's a tried and true Bass nut like I was for 30 years.I gave him one of my special white jigs and told him how to work it.For the next 2 hrs he proceded to seine the bank in front of me catching mostly Browns and some bows. I just couldn't get anything going, seemed like after they had seen his jig they wouldn't touch anything I threw.I thought,I'll switch to fly rod and just show him.Well I ended up with 1 Bow for the mourning,he had 16 all together. The one in this picture is his first Brown ever and he caught it on the 3rd cast. Its not huge but not to bad for your first! Sometimes you just gotta let those kids beat you,so they don't get a complex, you know.

Davekeim, your pontoon is just fine, has ran really good every time we've had it out.Oh and the prop, well, we can take a grinder to it I'm sure and it will be good as new,and you may need to put a little gas in it also!!!! Just kidding,I don't even know where Tanglewood is at! Leonard, great site, got on there this mourning. TL
-
Way to go Leonard, you have certainly been working hard at getting the Night bite down to an art.I'm sure you will do well. There are so many advantages to fishing at night, just being out there is a peaceful, stress breaking experience. Good Luck. I still haven't been able to get on your site.It must be loaded down with viewers. TL

Nice fish! Now thats a Smallmouth,Spotted bass mix, right? And Table rock is one of the few lakes in the country where they cross successfully. I've caught a few of them myself, but nothing but just shorts and barely keepers.
