  1. I always love 2 units, but it has been a long time since I have seen anything less. However, the best day of fishing over my years was when we watched the gates open. It was the first time I ever saw the gates open, so we turned and ran back to Lileys for safety. Lucky for us, Phil looked at us funny and said get back out there and take these white jigs. The three of us caught fat trout for the last three hours of daylight and laughed until we made it back. We are looking forward to our trip in June with the flows that we are seeing now. I enjoy fishing the shorter rigs on my fly rod, but never know what to use.
  2. It feels like weeks since we were there, but I finally got a second to sit down with my coffee and write up a report / thank you. Our normal crew grew this year and we had nine guys and a couple of Taneycomo first timers. We were down June 12-17th and we stayed at Ozark Trout Resort with Wanda. She took great care of us and the rooms were nice as always. We rotate between there and Lileys if they have a space when we go. Fishing was great, probably the biggest fish we have ever seen in the 20 years members of our group have been coming down. We caught a lot of 15-20 inch heavy rainbows, one 20 plus, throw in the occasional small one and it was a good trip for everyone. I spent weeks before the trips tying up scuds and they worked, I have to admit I was pretty excited about that, but they only worked because Bret Rader showed us how to fish them on our first day there. I have fished Taneycomo for 12 years or more with my dad, brother, family and friends and every year we learn something new. Brett taught us to drift using the slip bobber and it worked all week and was especially great for my nephew and dad to make sure they were getting to the bottom. We fished Bret's flies, grey scuds in #14-16 and peach eggs we bought from lileys the rest of the week. The eggs seemed to out produce the scud, but Bret's fly was our best producer, until we managed to break them all off. As always Jigs did the trick if we could manage to keep them down. Thanks to lileys fast, friendly shipping of tying materials I was able to tie jigs for the group. It sure is fun to add your own little tweaks to each jig. I felt sad when my favorites were lost. Thank you to everyone we ran into and lileys crew for the great conversations and help in the shop. Jackson seemed a little lonely while Phil was out of town, but he was happy for a scratch when we walked into the shop (as long as you didnt want him to get up).
  3. As always guys thanks for keeping those of us who live far away updated. Love hearing the stories as we get ready to come down each year. Hopefully the gates closing keep the fishing going for everyone.
  4. I bought the stuff for some eggs in my last order. I just have not got around to them yet. Any special recipe for the eggs or just find one and go?
  5. Hey everyone I have been coming to Taneycomo for the last 10 years or so with my dad and some people. We always used to come in March, but things have changed over the years and last year we made it down three times. This year our first trip is in June and I decided to try tying some of my own flies for the first time. We use jigs a lot (I have been tying them too, I ordered heads from Lily's because we love their jigs.), but I always fish san Juans, scuds and midges too. I was hoping someone could tell me I am tying my scuds right. I copied the simple design I always use, but not sure how much lead wire to add or if it matters. The way the water is flowing I figure the more the better. Any thoughts? I forgot to take a picture of my scuds, but I am using a simplistic grey with red thread head just like I have bought in years past. No ribs or anything fancy, it almost looks like a sow bug to me. Any other patterns I could tie up for the group?
