  1. You have discovered an incredible fishing resource.. that you are at the mercy of.. Cats are caught all year.. some of the best blue cat fishing on the river is done in the winter. Lower water tends to congregate them as well.. fall fishing for white bass heats up in October.. Try small rivers that connect to the Mississippi as well as creeks..
  2. No. Jess todd completed the deal, so no additional players are going to Cleveland.
  3. Samuel was one of the Players to be Named Later in the deal for DeRosa. Jess Todd was the complement player that joined Chris Periez in Cleveland. If that gun is close to being right, then that is awesome. You can not teach speed but control "can" be learned... Thanks for the tip Phil.
  4. i have not had any time to ge back.. Only been out to a private pond to try some new flies.. Been working on a foam/deer hair mouse for trout that I wanted to test out.. it was too big to hook any bluegill and the bass were no where to be found.
  5. I think Wellemeyer's spot is probably given up for the rest of the season. They only need a 5th starter a few more times due to the way the rotation is positioned and the off days. They need solid pitching from Carpenter, Wianright and Piniero..Anything out of Lohse and the 5th spot is padding. The schedule favors the cardinals over the next couple weeks with the exception of the Dogers. The Cubs have a much tougher schedule and they go on the road.. What do the Cardinals need? They just need to play this thing out.. Solid lineup and if middle relief can become more consistent, they should be fine.
  6. I imagine they are just feeding on algea.. That might be why it is tough to get a hook up.. Those that I have had luck with seem to be curious more than anything.. But they are only curious once, then they spook from the same fly. I wonder if glass eggs would work.
  7. I had some luck at the lake of the ozarks with bright clousers on the bottom where the buffalo were feeding. You may want to try bright colored glo-balls as well.. They seem to be inquisitive feeders rather than searching for a specific food item.
  8. Took a recreation trip to the Lake this past weekend and snuck in some fishing. Buffalo were feeding in the shallows at the condo and I was able to get a couple to cooperate with a clouser on the 2 weight. Talk about a long fight.. Thanks to the night bash fisherman who boated over and netted this one. Any ideas on weight? I didnt bring a scale or tape..
  9. Good to be out though.. This Spring was good on some small creeks that dump into the Mississippi.. lots of 8-14" whites.. some times upwards of 100 in an outing.. It would be nice to find some bigger ones now.. Navigated the middle section of Creve Ceour last night.. found some good shallow water with some carp working in it.. didn't bring a rod as I was testing some things out with the new kayak.. I would imagine some of those shallow flats could lead to good fishing..
  10. Picked up a kayak over the weekend so I am taking it out for a spin tonight at Creve Coeur... Never caught any cats on the fly over there but crappie are good when you time it right.. EN, You still catching the whites?

    Which One?

How about some of the stuff Kelly Galloup puts out.. Galloups Flies I love tying the Double Bunny to fish in fast water where stocker trout are located. Absolutly deadly at certain spots at Montauk and Bennett. Jeremy has posted some stuff regarding the Circus Peanut lately..
  12. Herring if you can get it.. Shad or cut Asian Carp.. I have eaten fish from there for years and I am still here.. I think the MDC has said eat in moderation.. Something like if you eat fish from there every day for a month, then you may have some concerns.
  13. I am looking for a Jig mold that has a collar for plastic grubs. I would prefer one that includes 1/16th and 1/8th oz options. If you have something like this, please let me know what you want for it. I also have 3 molds that I would trade or sell if anyone is interested. I can send pics if anyone is interested. 1) Do-It special Jig mold. Round head no collar. 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, 1/32, 1/64 and 1/80th size heads. Used but in good shape. 2) Ament Jig Mold- Small collar- 6 slots of 1/32oz- used but in good shape. 3) No name Jig mold- Oblong head with collar- 1/4, 3/8, 1/2oz- Old buut works still. Thanks
  14. I bought a Lee Production pot melter several years ago and used it regularly to pour jigs, sinkers and duck decoy weights.. Havent used it much in the last two then tried it two weeks ago and couldnt get a consistent pour. It seemed to be clogged or something... Mailed it back to Lee on Monday, got it back yesterday!!! Super fast and they replaced the pot as it corroded or something.. best part.. free.. Great company and great customer service..
  15. First time trout fishing and first time at Montauk.. If you wade fish, get a jar of powerbait and some hooks from the lodge and go straight behind the lodge. There is a huge hole there that will give you alot of room to try out the trout fishing.. Or you could throw small spinners or jigs..
  16. We floated Friday through Sunday. Launched at Buck Hollow and ended at Alley Springs.. Flow was pretty good, weather was spectacular. There was more paddling to this stretch than I would have liked but got some good fishing in. Biggest for our group was one a little over 16" and one at 15.5". Caught them on Rebel Crawdads and 3" brown power grubs. Lots of Smallies and Goggleye..
  17. Nice report and what a beautiful fish.. Can't wait to get back down there this October.
  18. Awesome thanks.. I have saved that one.. love to cook so this will be added to my journal for future use.
  19. Sounds delicious.. love fish cooked in foil on a hot fire.. I will have to try the jalepenos and bacon the next time I get some walleye.. Been catching a few Saugers up here but nothing bigger than 12 inches.
  20. Looks like the water and flow came up last night.. weather looks good for the weekend.. http://nwis.waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/uv?07065200
  21. Probaly depends on where you are fishing and what type of trout.... but the majority of the time, the larger fish are lower in the water column and a soft hackle is fished up.. If you are fishing shallow water, you could get into bigger fish.. You could go by two theories, eventually if you catch a high quantity of fish you will end up with a big one.. or fish with big flies to catch big fish.. volume will go down, but quality usually rises. Just my opinion.
  22. How do you soak the turtle? And is it alive when you do this.
  23. Sounds like a nice trip.. I love that little C&R area.. Did you see any good browns in there.. They have some nice cut banks that can give you some different types of fishing situations.. and catching a good rainbow like that is always fun..
  24. We are heading down to the Upper Jack's Fork this coming weekend. Anyone floated recently and how is fishing?
  25. I am looking to replace a Shimano Sonora 2000f... I think I have worn it out.. time for something new.. I know this isn't a high end model but I liked the way it worked when it worked correctly.. Anyone have any suggestions for a similar model or one that would replace it well..
