  1. I sent an e-mail to the Governor of Arkansas about a week ago concerning the issues surrounding the constuction of Condo's next to the river and the sediment{mud} that has run into the river which could/will have a long term effect on this great fishery. I was surprised that I did receive an e-mail from a Shane Khoury {Governors Policy Advisor for Regulatory Affairs} basically all he said was; Yes! the Governor takes these issues very seriously and this situation has been turned over to the "Arkansas Depart. of Environmental Quality", with a phone # to that particular agency. Really already knew this but was surprised by the reply.
  2. Went last year and had a great time! Lots of drawings and with the casting pond you really do have a good set up to try the different rods that will be on hand. Charlie has really done a good job on getting some very knowlegable people involved in the fly tying etc.
  3. My granddaugther is 10 and tall for her age, she is set up with a St. Croix Avid 8'6" 5wt. 4 piece, 5wt DT fly line and one of my older reels, Cortland LTD Graphite 60. Does a good job with it! At this time still with the roll cast and will move to the next stage when she is ready.
  4. How about the "Hump Back of Lilley's Landing"?
  5. Same here Phil!
  6. Good comments & info concerning a very sad state of affairs for something like tthis to take place in a state where their economy is driven by tourism. I did send an e-mail to Gov.Huckabee. IF I receive a respones I will post.
  7. John that indeed is good news! Hard to believe that the state would wait this long to finally do something about this type of environmental issue in one of the best fisheries in the state. If this would happen in some other states they would have been closed down in Feb. when it was discovered.
  8. Leonard: Now you will probably have 40 guys/gals waiting in line to fish them there new flies. I might even show up since we will be in the general area fishing for a week.
  9. Looks to me they wanted to try each others equipment out for size!
  10. KFF: I for some reason never remember Copper John's myself. I guess my mind was in the right file at the time. At BS on Thurs. 4/27 did well on top water in afternoon in the riffles below the stone bridge. Water is getting lower all the time. It has been low so long that people that started fishing there in the last 6 years probably think the present level is normal.
  11. John: Man that hit like a bolt of lighting! I also have a trip planned very soon for the Norfork & I know that the lake is still low and I could not figure out why they were running so much water while the White, Beaver & Taney were runnning next the zero, so the comment about keeping the lower White water colder sure answered that question. Learn something new every day!
  12. A friend of mine was on a shocking trip on the Current last year and the biologist along on the trip agreed that some of the very small browns they brought up were NR's, so hope that has some possitives. Sure need to some rain in that area as others.
  13. Current River for one.
  14. It's the tip and I also buy a 10ft. leader and cut off 6-8 " of the leader.
  15. There goes the business at the local Donut shop if the police, sheriff etc. has to take care of law enforcement!
  16. Thanks John for the info. I guess I will have to give it a try in a couple of weeks. I will remember the wading stick. I got caught in a bad position once at Taney, lucky I got out, knocked down three times before I made shore.
  17. Like Kicknbass said it is a personal thing. Like I said earlier the loop/leader and double clinch knot for the tippet has worked over the years for me and I feel confident with this set up. Do what works and makes you happy.
  18. Brian: How is the fishing from the dock down stream? I went to scout out the area and was shown where to drop off the $3 but never went back to fish the area, how is it? How much time you have to get back up stream if they start running water? Does the C&R area start where Otter Creek runs into Norfork Tilwaters? Lot of ? not many answers! I do hate to see what is taking place in the area, one of the few places where everything is pretty laid back. Like I said my contact said he knows the land across from Gene's has been surveyed but that is all and who's owns that land he either doesn't want to say or doesn't know. Will be back done there in two weeks, will see if anyone has heard anything.
  19. Gee! Maybe I do it all wrong,I put a loop on the end of my leader and tie the tippet on the loop with a double clinch knot. Does not seem to create a problem with hinging on the cast and easier to maintain the total length on the leader and tippet in the ranch I usually use which is 9 1/2 feet or so, or you can also do a loop to loop with leader and the tippet.Am I way off base?
  20. KCF: Copper John's! I would throw in a Crackle Back & PMD's for Dries and also add a Pheasant Tail with the nymph's. Might want to try a #12 Crackle Back with a PT dropper or Super Scud as a dropper in the riffles below the old arch bridge and in zone #1 upstream of the gage house. Need to use 7x Fluorcarbon stream looks like drinking water.
  21. Brian: The land across from Gene's has a high bank but it looks like it is pasture land I have seen cattle near the barb wire fence that is on the top side of the bank, most of the trees were missing when I first started fishing there about 6 years ago.
  22. I agree with the pitcher being the best hitter, I was kinda in shock when they announced him as a PH to lead of the 9th inning, I have to take my hat off to him and Tony. Hope you enjoy the game and the stadium. I have to agree about the pitcher being a very good hitter. Have to admit that I was stunned when they announced hm as a PH to lead off the 9th down by one run. My hat off to him and Tony. Hope you enjoy the game and the new stadium!
  23. Brian: I guess we meet on another part of the forum ! We were at North Fork 4/5-4/9 and heard that no one knows their plan about the dock. Also found out a large parcel of land directly across from Genes Trout Resort is perhaps for sale! My contact said they know for sure the land has been surveyed, for what? no one knows! Makes bad thoughts cross your mind doesn't it! Take Care
  24. Rock Beaverfork: Welcome to the Forum, great site and you can get a lot of questions answered. I have one for you! You mentioned Ouachitas is this the lake near Hot springs with tailwaters for trout fishing. Family is going there in the 1st week of Aug. and I need some advice on fly fishing if it is tailwater with trout. Thanks
