I used to go twice a week up there, now I haven't been in almost 2 years. I want to badly, just can't justify spending that much in gas to go.

a 34 inch walleye is a monster. I caught 1 that was 31 inches and weighed 10lb 12oz. And a friend caught one 31inches and 13lbs. With eggs that would have been a lot bigger I imagine.

I bet you were purposely hooking them poor smallmouth bass, just to watch them die, lol. Sounds like you had a blast. I got 9 out of Swan 2 days ago.

I think the population may be on a rise. I've always fished Swan this time of year for big bluegill, esp when the water starts to rise good. And this is the first year I've seen them in there. Maybe it was a fluke that so many were in there, but I hope it's because there's becoming more and more of them every year. They're an interesting little fish. Me and my boy are going down this afternoon and I'm hoping I can talk him into looking for some, but he's a more of a white bass fishermen, which is understandable. I hope we can get some walleye to.

Most people are after the bass because of the fight, which is fun. But I've gotten more into the eating and catching so I've become more obsessed with walleye, yellow perch, other perch and whatever tastes good. I just figured with the new population of these yellow perch, I thought I'd give a try at targeting them. Probably a lost cause, but I'm gonna try it. It doesn't help that I'm new to fishing out of a boat instead of off the bank, which makes a big difference.

I haven't tried anywhere other than Swan. I've heard of quite a few people catching them at Barker Hole fishing off the bank, but I've never tried down there or anywhere else. I've only had the boat out twice and mainly did some trolling looking for walleye. All the yellow perch were males. Now that the lake has dropped I haven't seen or caught any.

Thanks for the comments guys. The ones I caught were small but they sure did taste good. I just recently acquired a boat and I am just learning how to fish out of it. Sounds like the bottom bouncing thing might work. I'm gonna have to give it a try. Does anybody have advice on what speed to drag a bottom bouncer?

I have recently fallen in love with these little fish. I caught 20 in Swan Creek back when the water was high. I'm looking for some pointers from anyone willing to give some information out about them. I know worms are the trick to catching them, but I thought maybe some of you bass, walleye, and crappie fishermen might have some good advice or locations to a hot spot for these things. I caught mine off the bottom using sinkers, but I was wondering if maybe they get suspended out in the lake like the other fish do, or do they stay close to the banks? Any info I can get would be helpful. They are sure good eating, like mini-walleyes. Thanks.

Maybe this abnormally warm spring we've had has contributed to some kind of virus or something to make these fish be dying like this, Obviously it's not just one river that is having suckers dying now.

I seen a dead sucker floating today by the new bridge on the Finley just above the James. Maybe it is part of the kill you seen. No, it didn't have any gig marks on it, lol.

So what is there at 2 a.m. ?

yeah the last 2 weekends we've been pulling out hand sized bluegill and lots of others about 7" maybe, well big enough to fillet. The water has dropped quite a bit and the bigguns have seemed to move somewhere else. Now it's mostly borderline bluegill, but they gotta be somewhere.

I took the 3 kids down to the old bridge over Swan this afternoon. We caught countless bluegills on worms and caught 1 yellow perch to. We caught 19 yellow perch this past weekend also off the bridge, first ones I ever caught. Boy they're good eating to. Like mini walleye. About dark I went under the bridge and fished for whites till about 8:15 and caught 1 sow whitebass. She had already spawned out, so I'm not sure if they all have or not.

It's pretty obvious where he was fishing, like was already said, prob between barker hole and swan creek. Snide comments like that make people not want to post. Thanks for the report and i'm assuming you caught white bass as well.

I noticed that with watching people fishing with A rigs. They probably don't want to get it tangled in anything and lose it would be my guess. I've caught lots of whites right where you were fishing before when everyone else was up the creek or elsewhere. The problem is usually letting your lure sink deep enough before reeling it back in.

Hey Richy, I don't know if you noticed or not, but me and my 2 boys were under the bridge down there while you were there, I seen you catching some whites and wondered how many you caught. We were down there from 11 to 7.

I seen a guy cleaning his limit of whitebass saturday afternoon and he caught them in Swan Creek.

That is bizarre, you're usually right on top of the bite with having all the connections and all, lol. Maybe they moved farther up stream and the next wave of whites just hasn't gotten out of the lake yet.

There was just a sprinkle or two. It looks like I may be able to luck out again and go tonight also. We're taking worms and going after big perch in Swan before it gets dark, there's lots of em in there right now.

I'm glad you figured it was a common snapping turtle, when I saw the pic I knew, but wasn't sure how I was gonna break the news to you and others, lol.

They were in Swan last night, lots of people catching some. But I got there late and couldn't tell where the best spot was.
