  1. Phill I still can't get on at all. Been trying every day for the past week or so. Here is what I am getting up on my screen "IPB WARNING [2] load_template(/home/web/ozarkhunters-com/html/forums/cache/skin_cache/cacheid_4/skin_global.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory (Line: 1362 of /sources/ipsclass.php)" Any Ideas ? Thanks Ron
  2. I wish I could still wear a vest. Do to all the surgery I have had on my throat and neck area I jusrt can't support one. I had a Simms Guide vest for years and loved it. But it was just to hard on my neck with all the weight. A good friend that is in the business sent me a chest pack that has shoulder straps and no weight on you neck at all. I have it full and ready to go but I have to admit I have not used it yet do to surgery again. But it is ready to go when I am ready. I gave my Simms guide vest to a good friend in Wisconsin that guides. I know he will get a lot of use out of it. Ron
  3. The guy is from Texas and sounds that way most of the time. Most of the Democrats think he is dumb and can't talk well at all? Funny how people can make fun of others when they don't agree with them on things. It is not in me to do that. I will say what I want to about a person but not make fun of anyone. Like Kerry now there is a dumb person that thinks he is smart. Ron
  4. Glad they found her. But if I were the husband I wouldn't say a word. LOL Ron
  5. Still can't get on?? Is it just me? Ron
  6. Fun to see them in your yard LOL. We had a Moose and a Black Bear in town this fall. They had to drug the bear. The moose is still hanging around. Guess he knows hunting season is going on LOL Ron

I have not been on here long but find it very informing. I like the idea of listing all the rivers and lakes in a several state are. You can ask a question and most times get an answer. At times there are posts like the Missouri Prop 2 thread but you sure don't have to read those. It is election time and you are bound to get those now and then. Just don't read it. That is one thing that amazes me. People gripe about what is on a board but "WHY" do they read it? Never could figure that one out unlesss it is so they can just gripe about it. If you don't like something don't read it. I will give Phill a big pat on the back and say "Great Job" I realy like this site. I do not live in the area but I am from north eastern Arkansas and it makes it easy for me to keep track on how the fishing is in the area. Good site Good poeple you can't ask for much more than that. Like the old saying goes. "You can please some of the people some of the time, But you can't please everyone all of the time" Ron
  8. Wayne. These people own several compnays that will make a lot of money off of this bill. And the tax payers will be footing the bill. I suggest you do some reading on it. I also found that in the bowels of this bell it says that colning is OK and will be done. People had best read this bill before voting on it. It will make Missouri the place to go or come to for this type of thing. It will be just a might late if you vote before reading this bill. Ron
  9. Terry the thinking behind a tapered leader is that it transfers the power of the rod down to the fly helping the leader and fly turn over. As for the formula on the leader I use. I will have to measure it for you and it may take me a day or so to get to it. I have not made any because of all the surgery and things that have gone on in the last year or so. But I will get it to you in a bit. Davey- We have a lot of things in common. I use at least a two foot butt section on my leaders. I in fact at times use a very long leader up to 15 foot. I have found at times a tippet section of 4 or 5 feet can make a big difference in what you catch. I have taught people for many years how to know were the fly is at all times no matter it's size. I fish down and across to the fish when ever possible. I will cast the fly about 3 feet above and past the fish I am fishing to. I then lift my rods tip stright up into the air. This causes the fly to skate on the surface and you can see were it is. I drag the fly into the line of drift I want it in and drop the rods tip and throw slack into the line. In doing it this way you will always know were your fly is. You may not see it but it will always be at the point of the "V" you make when you drag the fly into position. Takes more to tell this than it does to do it. It works and older people with bad eyes even know were there fly is when doing it this way. If done right you will not spook any fish. Been doing this for over 30 years or and it works. As for leaders and strighting them. I find it is real easy to do. I just pull them between my hands. Takes about 30 seconds. We all have ways of doing things that fit each of us. It is fun to try others ideas and use what we find we like. Ron
  10. I just read were the people behind this bill, a couple by the name of Soures (Spelling ?) Anyway they are the ones behind this bill. they have spent over 28 million to get this bill passed. They claim it is do to them both having had cancer. But in truth there companys will make Billion's of dolors if this bill passes. You might want to do a little looking before deciding on this bill. Seems to me there is always someone making a lot of money off of these bills. Ron
  11. Thats sure a dandy Hen you caught there. Good On Ya. ron
  12. I think the Ducks left on there own. I know I would if I could. Ron
  13. I am a two tour disdabled vet. I have had 4 major surgery's anyone of which I could have died from. I know more about pain and pill's than Mr Fox ever will. I believe I have a right to question anyone about anything that I do not agree with them on when it is political in nature. I gave a lot for that right. It is my understanding that Mr Fox didn't even read to bill before making his commercial. That alone would disqualify anything he had to say in my book. Just because he is a movie star holds no water with me. He is just another person with an opinion. And his opinion dosen't count in my book not when he dosen't even know what the bill is about. He even admitted that he didn't agree with all of it. But he is still standing by it. Amazing! I do feel sorry for Mr Fox but even though he is sick he has no more right to an opinion than anyone else. It is up to all of us to read each bill and to know for sure what is in it. To bad more of our Politician's don't do the same. Ron
  14. Boy is it cold up here this morning. 13 degrees with a skif of snow on the ground. BRRRRRRRRRR Wish I were down there. They say back into the 50's by Friday. Ron
  15. While I agree with many of the things you say one thing that I have found is that you can not say that one thing works everywere you fish. I guided for many years and most of it was on tailwaters and spring creeks here in the west. I believe in tapered leaders and have tied my own for many years. I also think that for aobut 90 percent of your fishing one style of tapered leader is all that is needed. That being a 10' 4x. With the taper at 4x I can add to it and get it down to 6x or even7x with ease or I can leave it at 4x or go to 3x or even 0x for fishing larger streamers and such. It works well for me. One thing that I have found is that people like to play with there tackle and talk about it. That is a big part of fly fishing. Just having fun trying new things and playing with there tackle. I have been at this game almost as long as you including guiding and I find that it is great fun trying new things out even if I don't end up using them. Like I said it is fun just to play with new ideas. Ron
  16. The one that leaked on us was an old one. We stayed in it on the BigHole River some years ago. It was old and very well used. Don't make me swear to this but I think it was one of the first Coleman's? Anyway the sides leaked if you touched them same as a canvas tent does. Maybe the newer ones are made out of a material that is much better now days. I just like the trailers better. When it is blowing hard and the rain is up they are a lot nicer. And the main thing is you can lock them up and not worry so much. Just my opinion. Ron
  17. As for the pop-ups. I have used them a few times there are other draw backs to them that you are not thinking about. One is if it rains hard and someone touchs the side canvas they will leak just as a wall tenet will. Another bad point to them is that you can't leave them up with anything of value in them and expect it to be there when you return. Just to easy to get into. If it were me I would look for a hard trailer. I have had both and the hard trailer is much more friendly to the user. You can always get a small tent and set it up so that the extra's can sleep in it. We have done that and it works very well. Ron
  18. I always just stuck them in with the old rods. She never knew the difference. If you try and hide them it just dosen't work. Like the old saying goes best place to hide something is "In Plain Sight" Ron
  19. Just saying Congrats to you folks. It is great to see a team from the midwest take it all for a change. Good On Ya. Ron
  20. I have used both many times. I use the Kayak's down in Texas when I go and visit my son who lives down there. We fish Red Fish and Sea Trout with them on the flats. They are great for moving fast or in the wind. But do get tiring on the back after some time. Even with a back rest. Bt I would not have anyhting different when fishing down there. It is a hoot. For rivers and small ponds I like a Pontoon. Just amke sure you get a good one. If you are willing to spend the money you can even put an Electric motor on them and they work great. They are real comfortable to use all day long and you can bring all the gear you will need for a days fishing. Heck you can even bring your dog if you like LOL. I have both and I also have 4 float tubes and yes they have a place to. If the wind comes up the float tube will let you fish were the pontoon boat will not be controable at all. My son's bought three Kayaks and they stay down in Texas. They are all set up with rod holders, coolers, fish finders and everything. Mine was a fathers day gift some years ago. From my daughter and two son's. \ Having been an outfitter for many years the float tubes and pontoon boats were used in my work and were for the clients. Just my opinion. But there is no perfect boat. For what you discribe I would go with the Pontoon baot and be very happy. Ron
  21. Poor animal. They did him a favor by putting him out if it. I would not eat that meat either. I have seen other pictures of deer like that but have never seen one in real life even having guided for deer and Elk for better than 30 years. Seen some weird things but never an animal like that. I wounder what it is that does that? Ron
  22. You have to have ID to vote in my state and that is the way it sould be. A few years back there was a special on TV about the voting in a county in Southern Claifornia and how many people were not even residents of this country and were voting. Seems that there were so many that there votes canceled out all of the votes made in my state. Now that is a lot of illegal votes in my book. And they are keeping my vote from counting. Thus I think that anyone wanting to protect people so they do not need an ID are in truth wanting the votes because they know that those votes will go one way, Democratic. Now that is the truth of the matter because the county I am talking of is just about 80 percent Mexican and all vote Democrat. Not saying all Democrats are this way but they sure are in California an if it cancels out my vote then I have a right to be real sore. Ron
  23. Very nice Phill. My favorite time of the year. Ron
  24. Very Nice. Looks like y'll had a great time. Wish I was there with ya. Ron
  25. Just say hey to you all. Been down and out for a time. Had surgery on my throat 2 weeks ago and got a touch of pneumonia and had to stay in the hospitl for 8 days trying to get ride of it. I am home now and doing better but it will still take some time to get back to normal. The hospital I was in is in Bozeman Montana and the rooms have hunting and fishing wallpaper on the walls. Cool. I have been reading the board even while in the hospital. The night nurse let me get on line LOL. I know all of them because this is my third surgery in 5 years. But I am doing well. Just letting you folks know I am still alive and kicking and will be on more now. I sure wish I could get out and fish but I am afraid that will have to wait awhile so I will fish through you folks and your your posts. Ron PS: Juat wanted to thank you folks for your posts as it was great to read them while I was in the hospital. I also want to thank Phil for a great Board. Thanks my friend. Ron
