First day I caught some nice browns in the 18 inch ranges. and it just got better from there. Wed we had four adults in the boat and boated over 100 brown trout, the largest was 20 inches and several in the 19-19 1/2 inch range. Lots and lots of those 12-16 inch Browns. Wed we did not get to the fishing area until about 12:30-1:00pm fished until 6:30pm. All artificial lures. Lost one in excess of 28 inches. Here is a few pics fromt he past week

Slow To Get On Plane, Any Help
taxidermist replied to Lunker Lane's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
My 25hp on the 21ft river boat jumps on plane as does the lake boat a 17 ft with a 90 hp. With this said what are you doing with the trim on take off? -

Lots of damage. I dont know if we will go out on the river tomorrow or Monday. One guide told me he caught several limits of fish without leaving the parking lot.

Al's box message box is full but I found this doing a bit of research. Large parties of fishermen began to take the relatively easy trip on the new White River Railway from the nearby cities of Kansas City, Chicago and St. Louis. ...Bass of three kinds, jack salmon, buffalo, red-horse, suckers and enormous catfish. Not the flabby fish that congregate at the mouth of city sewers, but large, firm-fleshed fighting fellows that give the fishermen all they want to do to handle them on rod and line. - The Cotter Courier, Jan. 1, 1904, quoting the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. I found this searching other things today. Seems that walleye were in the river before dams were built John

Worse, Buffalo river has been way up and for a long time and Crooked Creek is still running heavy. Riley's has been offline for a while now. I will go down and look them over this weekend.

That was todays flow through BSD. 6 units and 17 gates at 2 1/2 feet open. Gastons lost their dock as did Stetsons, Stetson has water in their main lodge. Several homes are flooded. The park in Cotter is closed. Wildcat is up tot he bottom of the sign, the sign post are in about 3 feet of water. Whitehole is within just a few feet of the outhouses that are up on the high bank. Stetson has water over the swimming pool several feet and way over the berm. The old water or tree lines is 10-12 feet underwater. Blue Heron Comp ground office is 50 feet or more into the water. 2008 they were able to sandbag around it, but not this time. The campground on the southside of the river at Cotter is to the tops of the power boxes. I dont know the number of feet but the old turntable railroad bridge would have to turn today to lett a 35 ft barge with fly bridge through. I will try to get pics tomorrow. 58,500cfs is 37 Olympic swimming pools a minute, the current inflow to Bull Shoals is rated at 97,000cfs. Talkis they may have to go to 120,000cfs if the rain does not let off. The COE did a good draw down of Bull Shoals this past winter. but but Table Rock did not have a huge draw down. During the late winter we saw points and creek bottoms that have not seen daylight in many many years. See other post in White river

I dont like little cleos. I just dont catch enough fish on them. If the water is low Cd-3 in sivler and black, or gold and black. Also there is a clear one with a bit of purple pearl everyyone is calling it glass rap. I have not found one yet. it has rattles and should be a killer. http://www.rapala.com/products/lures/glass_shad_rap/ Rogues in Silver, blue back or even the silver fading into a blue back with gold sides is good when worked slow. I use suspending and yes I have caught a darn good share of larger fish on them. I would run up to the C&R area and fish back to the dock from about 4pm until dark!

Seems to me that Table Rock does not get the huge fluctuations like Bull Shoals does. I think this is partly tourist related. I think the lake should be drawn down all winter and then used to hold the water as intended. This would almost always be good for the spawn on all fish specie. Plus provide a minum. flow for the river systems. ie.e Taneycomo and the rest of the river chain. Seldom is the min flow for seasonal flow maintained someone int he corp likes playing God.

If you want to catch a lot of fish, now is the time to go below Norfork Dam!!! Lots of great fishing!!! Many larger fish have come through the flood gates!! No size limit on the stripers or walleye either!
-
I fish the are both up river and down river from Cedarwoods and its just fine. I like it more because of fewer people most times. Rapalas work well gold and sometimes silver. cd 3 if the water is low de-5 or 7 if the water is high. With two units on line you can get all the way to Cotter, drift back and it can take a good part of the day, skipping the Catch and release area. Or you can go down river past the Ranchette ramp and drift for miles, Buffalo Shoals is the largest drop on White River, under low water it can be tricky but with two units on there is zero problems. If you go down below Buffalo river and fish the south bank you can have a blast with smallmouth bass in the heat of the summer!!! Same lures!

Selecting A Truck For Fishing Boat...
taxidermist replied to DLM84's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Go with a half ton truck V-6, much more room!! even better mileage. I have a 97 V-6 ranger 3.0 and the best I can get is 20mpg without the boat (20Ft shawnee) and with it 16mpg. Oh and a 5 speed. I wish now I had went to a half ton. I am 6ft tall and 240lbs, the ranger is to small. -
Not a lot below Yellville but the water is up way up and clearing, you can float to Ranchette right now. The brush will beat the crap out of you, fishing may be poor but its floatable.

Even opening the Missouri levee did not do a lot of good. Last week a friend from down in Louisiana was worried about getting back home do to opening flood gates in their area Appalactha what ever its called are open. and water is still rising!

Aluminum Boat Coating
taxidermist replied to bigredbirdfan's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
http://www.fascoepoxies.com/products.html Steel flex air boat epoxy is what you need!, Contains teflon and last. I have it on my aluminum river boat and its great stuff. Seals the boat too. If you have a riveted boat. buck the rivets and tightened them give each rivet a coat than the whole bottom. You will be high and dry and slide over limbs rocks and gravel! You sand the bottom with 36 grit and mix the two parts 50/50 not critical amounts. and using a brush paint it on. next day its done!! -
Water has been way up. the only access at Harmon is at the Harmon RD bridge, ou can fish anywhere from Pyatt on down as there are a couple places to put in and take out.But from Pyatt up its either drag or float, depending ont he water level. Ground is full and if we have abit of rain it could be bad.

Stripers - Bull Shoals Fishery Meeting
taxidermist replied to Phil Lilley's topic in Upper Bull Shoals
Exactly!!! Especially in the spring when bass are on the nest. Way to many tourney, jerk the guarding bass from the nest and run all over the lake then way them in hoping for fish for next year. Stripers havebeen in Bull Shoals pretty much for the last 30 years and suddenly they eat bass and eat crappie. Like I said Bulldoes nto produce numbers of large crappie. Go south or east or north and you find larger crappie even with smaller waters but they are shallow waters. Much of the year in Bull Shoals and other highland res. there is not much oxygen below 30 feet. I have a lot of dives in scuba gear and you dont see many fish int he deeper colder water The small number of stripers that will be stocked equals to less than one to every three acres at normal power pool level. Look at the huge numbers of shad in the lake, these are the primary food of stripers and yes sometimes other fish species. I have had some great days fishing the pollen drift with shad type lures. Agasin I need to mention I see some larger crappie, spots and have even caught some good smallies from both Norfork and Bulls, but the large crappie 15 inches and larger are not in the highland res. I do see some large crappie come from Norfork, but I dont fish Norfork like I do Bull Shoals. A few years back I rediscovered the huge stripers in Bull Shoals and was told I was full of crap by people on this board!! That Bull did not have those big fish. Well the fish are there!!! and f they continue to stocks a few stripers it will not hurt anything as it has been proven they dont eat the bass in any significant numbers. -
Water being up the fsihing has been pretty hot using a 6 inch red or purple plastic worm and a standup head jig, just work it through the weeds and set the hook if in doubt, 14lb line works well.
-
Good medium action spinning rods, 8 lb test florocarbon line and Hot an tos in chrome with blue or black or purple backs. fish the points bluffs or creek beds in 20 feet of water.
