unfortunately the hobbs creek or any white river rod is available in blanks, but cabelas has a pretty big catlog devoted to rod building.

if you are looking for a a cabin that has a full kitchen then reeds up at the top of the park is an excellent place to go. We have known every owner of the place and the folks that have owned it for the past 5 years or so (art and kelly) have really put alot of money and effort in the place to make it nicer. They have a full store if you need anything including flies food etc. I plan on heading down for c+r on college break so i may run into ya down there. Good Luck!
-
bass pro still may have some simms lightweight stockingfoots for $99 but we may have to call another store and see what they may have in stock. Good luck and you ost definitely need a couple size bigger on boots because cramped feet are the worst.

that u in the pic watcher? Thats a nice fish, i was there when the pic was taken up at reed's. Did u end up going down if that isnt you? I knew that the winning fish would be around 12 lbs from a source, i wonder where the big one was caught, i never heard? I cant wait till opening day now!

sounds like you had a great trip! I was real gungho about the trip but once I was down there I could barely keep my eyes open lol. I had two 6lb+ on that broke off which wasnt a suprise on 2 lb. but I spent the morning with my dad who isnt the lunker hunter kind of guy anymore and likes as much room away from crowds of people as possible, so i didnt get to do much fishing really. I did real good so far this year with lunkers so i wasnt worried too much about anything but relaxing and really enjoying the weekend. We ended up going back to licking about 8:30 am on saturday to eat breakfast then back to the room to sleep. I slept like a baby then watched the cards game only to watch them lose:( Two of my buddies caught 3 lunkers apeice, and another 2 lunkers so they gave me all kinds of hell, but i told them working 40 hours a week and taking 19 credit hours of school can really take it out of you lol. Last year i caught a 4 lb right at that log jam you are talking about where your dad caught that 2nd lunker. Its a really hidden spot and it seems they do drop one big fish in per tournament. Next year hopefully i wont be on the verge of exhaustion and will get a little more into it. congrats to your wife and father! Sounds like their first montauk experience was a blast! Hopefully ill run into you guys next year. Montauk is my favorite of the parks by far!

cahill cabins is for sale if anyone would want to start up a flyshop its at vv and 13? would be an awesome opprotunity and fun at the same time Reeds though is the best bet, my parents and grandparents have known all the owners of the cabins and the newest owners (kelly and art) have done an excellent job with the place with the new shop, cabin/ ground improvements etc. They are really great people and have a better selection i thought than the park?

i think there are admin setings that can stop it? I know on a few forums im on, the have something on there to weed out 1 time posters like a "introduce yourself" sub forum or something, before a post can be made in the main forums. I dont know its just a suggestion if you are looking for ways to rid it. It really doesnt bother me, but ill ask my buddy who runs a very popular forum how and what settings he has to keep the spammers out

Trout Fishing while spawning......
10pointer replied to stikrz's topic in General Angling Discussion
if they are chasing eachother around i dont even bother with them. I dont have the patience to mess with them fish. -
we set alot of folks up with the cv2 line. I you arent going to use it much over the course of the years then its pretty decent. Now if you are a die hard and are a little more picky as far as lines go you cant go wrong with a GPX line. Ive had mine for a few years and love it. The cv2 line is a heckuva deal though if you are running on a somewhat limited budget. The Cv2 line is made by scientific anglers (the newboxes of cv2 have SA cards in them) which is one of your best flyline companys IMO
-
I love my simms and doubt id ever change! We get quite a few calls in the flyshop from ladies asking about pink waders and other odd colors. Does any company make them? They would probably sell decent, even though the color isnt the best for the stream.

Rose Holland anybody?...plus my MTFA trny results
10pointer replied to 10pointer's topic in Montauk State Park
trout tournaments arent really complicated and hard, its just set up for fun, unlike say a bass tournament. If you didnt like the amount of people at the mtfa then you would really hate the holland tournament. Were talkin 1500-3000 people in the park, if you want to go to get some peace and be the only one on the stream then this isnt the weekend for you to go down. Im one to like some peace and serenity but i like to go down for the 3 tourny's and opening day every year, it just spices up the year a little more for me Its really like tradition for me, and you cant tell me anybody goes to opening day for something other than tradition! The holland usually raises between 7k and 10k for the heart association. The derby fee is only a couple bucks a person so alot of others besides me must make other monetary contributions to the cause while down there. There's live bands, a car show, and craft fair things etc. that go on all weekend for those that didnt know. I really like the atmosphere and the comroderie of the tournament. I could care less if i caught many fish during the weekend, its just being down there thats the fun part for me. if you check the missouritrout.com website it will tell you the list of events at all the parks. -
Rose Holland anybody?...plus my MTFA trny results

i ended up getting 3 chuck witcher prints including a ltd edition color 92/200 of the 1995 trout stamp print. Its absolutely beautiful, and im getting it framed like all the others i have of his prints already, i believe im missing only one now. It came with number 92 trout stamp too so it will make a nice framed set. The holland is a great tournament which raises alot of money for the heart association, but its crowded down there for sure. Its the "Missouri Trout Fisherman's Association". Theres a KC, Springfield, and the St. Louis chapter. Some have things against it but it just a good time to get new people into the sport of trout and flyfishing. And a note, the only place id keep a lunker would be inside the parks. I would never keep one at taney or outside the parks. I just thought id throw that out there -
so like the title says, who's heading down for the annual classic? I cant wait its one of the best times to go all year with all the neat stuff and atmosphere. just got home from the MTFA tournament, I caught a 7 lb. 6 oz. rainbow, and I also caught 3 tagged fish. Had alot of fun and I know some people have something against the MTFA on here, so please noone jump my case Had a great time though, even though they went to the orange antennae looking tags near the dorsal fin. Id definitely like to see that changed back to at least a different color besides hunter orange, if they cant go back to the metal clips. Any joeblow could walk down the stream in the morning without polarized glasses and see and cast at every tagged fish around. It really aggravated me because finding tagged fish in the afternoons was super hard. I lost two tagged ones at the net to breakoffs on 1 lb, but i had a great trip catching the 3 and that big lunker! Now i cant wait till the holland, it should be fun!

50 lunkers wow thats a lot of nice fish. I just had a hard time believing that he caught two nice fish last weekend according to my buddies uncle. Im not all about only fishing for big bows' but hooking up with one on a flyrod is one of my favorites! I hope to get to go down, if i can manage off sunday at BPS. Hopefully by then the weather will be a smidgen cooler! thanks for the reply's all, and im sure ill hit rr this winter, since last winter i didnt get a chance to

thinking of heading down this weekend with a friend of mine and he said someone his uncle knew caught a couple lunkers last weekend or somthing like that and there were a ton of fish in the water. I havent been to roaring river in a few years but dont remember much stocking of large trout like that. Have they started this up recently? Anyone seeing nice fish in the water? I couldnt tell as much from the previous reports.. so..hows the fishin and the size? thanks, jason

weekend before last we were on the current and i saw a few agents on the water friday on our float. Then saturday we were fishing/swimming near tanvat and an agent snuck down and nabbed a guy for fishing without a license. The best part of that situation was the group of people he was with countered his "b'n" with things like "he's doing his job, protecting our streams and keeping them beautiful" and "you should be very glad you didnt have a fish on the stringer". It really made me smile that these folks stood up for what the agents do day in and day out even though this guy was their bud. That was the most agent activity i have seen in a long time down that way.

im glad that they wont allow the use of them anymore. We used to sell them at my work but i believe we pulled them from the shelves because they are so dangerous. We had the demo video playing near the display and those thing look very very dangerous. Its sad enought that we have water recreation deaths, and banning these will save alot of folks i think.

ive been a member for quite a few years now and i dont have such a harsh view as you do. I know most of the board of the mtfa-st.louis and know alot of the members. Its always fun get together, and know quite a few of them like to have a good time and party. I know alot about what goes on and they do have meetings after the derby's. Maybe it's just the guys i talk to (kevin, etc.) but they are always a good bunch of guys. I dont see them making a bunch of money and the $15 a year for the family membership isnt bad for all they have to do. this weekend I was offered to come for lunch saturday, dinner saturday and lunch sunday. I usually get included in all that i would like and never feel left out at all. Maybe its because i know alot of those guys pretty well but i dont know... There are a few things i think would be better if they were changed. I think the tagged fish check-in is a problem that seems to come up but they do offer a checkin usually up the hill, or before the prize gathering on sunday. It would be nice to have someone at the lodge during derby hours but most of the board and members are avid fisherman and are out on the water. And the holland derby is run by alot of volunteers, which makes a big difference in how much help is available. The rose holland draws a ton of people as where the MTFA doesnt. I have recieved tons of good stuff from the tourny's but i have also from the holland. Those guys like to have a good time, and its unfortunate that things get out of hand...but its all in good fun. Desrtoying of property and disrupting other campers is another thing though. Shoot me a u2u or private message on who the guys causing trouble were if you want. I have a little different opinion than you do but its all good!

last wednesday i got to go up north for the first half of the day before i had to get home to take care of the honey-do's. I killed a nice first gobbler on that trip, weighed in at 25#, and had a double beard, one at 11.5 and the other at a little over 6. That and he had 1 3/4 spurs to boot. we took a peak into one of the fields and he was at the other end struttin his butt off and my cuz made a quick call and he came our way. We jumped into the edge in the saplings and one more call and we got him to 10 yards and i took the shot. Ran out to the downed bird and my cuz flipped out, a big double beard as my first gobbler ever. Man it was an awesome feeling and i cant wait to do it again! Im definitely really getting into turkey hunting and hopefully will get another chance this week to head up there.

i was down just the weekend of the 8th and the water was at summertime levels, very low and clear. I did great sightfishing a #18 copperjohn with no indicator, and the trusty ole crackleback worked great too. Plenty of fish around, but i wish i had more time to fish outside the park that weekend.

I picked up another pair of simms waders tonight from work as a spare set to go with the old simms guides I have. This brought up my question, which company makes the best waders out, and then also best for the money? Most people ive heard all say simms, but i wonder what your opinions are? I thought about this after the fact of my purchase tonight but i couldnt pass up the deal i got on them. Im still going to wear the guides but i get nervous wearing them down on the current or the trout parks for fear of tearing them up and not getting them back in time for my trip to our other house in estes soon. Our fly shop has the Simms lightweight stockingfoots on clearance for $149.88 with the regular price at $200 if anyone would happen to be looking for some. Lifetime guarantee yadayadayada, and ive always been happy with my other pair of simms, but could i have made a better choice?

i have been looking almost every day and my hotspots havent produced yet this year. I still think its pretty early but they are coming up down south of 44 from what i hear. I hunt alot of urban areas and i tear em up out this way, but ill be going up north next week and hopefully they are up in force by then. I think the best time to go would be next week the couple days after we get some rain. i find most of mine in bottoms and ditches. I focus on dying or dead elm trees and some ash trees but i have found them all over the place. i dont worry to much about which way the hillsides face as long as they get some sun during the day.

Cell Service coverage at Montauk State park?
10pointer replied to Fozzy's topic in Montauk State Park
if you go to the top of the hill and into reeds you can get a signal...my dads phone and mine both work up near cabin 17 or 18 where we usually stay. Other than that you would have to drive half way to salem to pick up a signal or about 6 miles outside the park towards licking to get a signal. Oh and we both have cingular...nextels wont work (worst company ever- i had em for 4 years and hated it), and sprint and t-mobil dont work either. Cingulars the only ones to be able to get reception anywhere close to the park, trust me i have to check in with the woman a couple times each day! -
Pontoon Drift Boats
10pointer replied to Don's topic in Equipment - Rods/Reels/Line/and all the other toys
ill have to get a list of what is possible to get from my work, for instance we can get fishcats and some TU pontoons that arent listed in the catalog or in the store/ internet. The boats may be purchased through bass pro but the boats never touch the companies hands and are drop shipped by the manufacturers, etc. I will retrieve a list of what we can get and the replacement parts available from my manager this week. -
mizzou did you catch that brown in the park, or in the blue ribbon area, did you keep or release it? Ive caught quite a few big browns outside the park and never kept any, including one of them monsters that hangs out (or used to last year) just below the wire. Ive caught a few browns in the park but none over a pound or two. im heading down this saturday then, friday thru sunday next weekend. I just tied up a bunch of stuff last night so im excited!
