You folks must have left all the the fish with sore lips.My fiance and I floated that same section this past weekend and only caught a few.I did manage one decent smallie (pictured).Oh well, still a great weekend to be on the river. Dan-o
I did the same thing last year at the Rockhouse access on the Kings River.Left my Sage FLI 6wt. lying on the ground in its case by the car while loading up, then drove off without it.I hope you find yours. Dan-o
The night before I wade-fish, I buy a 32 oz. Gatorade or Powerade and pour half in another 32 oz. gatorade bottle then fill them both with water and put them in the freezer overnight. They'll stay frozen in a cooler till you get to the creek.Put them in your backpack and you'll have something cold to drink for a good part of the day. Dan-o
Not sure where Promise Mt. is located. As far as flies go, any type of crawfish, hellgramite,or bunny leach type pattern in olive, brown, or black has always worked well for me up there. Please practice catch and release with the smallmouth that you catch.Good luck. Dan-o
Don't overlook some of the small tributary creeks to the larger rivers. I caught a 19" cutthroat from Chalk Creek near Bella Vista a couple of years ago. It's a creek you can almost jump across in some places. After floating various drys over him for about 2 hours with no luck,I tied on a conehead sculpin which is a pattern I like to use for smallmouths around here. He nailed it on the second drift. Dan-o
There's a country club golf course about 4 blocks from my house and I've been told the ponds on it hold some huge redears (along with some rather nice largemouth bass). One of these days I'm gonna conjur up enough nerve for a little undercover night-time flyfishin'. Dan-o
Oops, that was supposed to be 15-- hadn't yet drank any coffee when I typed that this morning. As for Sealine bags, I agree that the bags themselves are very durable, but the quick-release snaps start breaking after a few years. Dan-o
I've got a Northwest River Supply backpack style rolltop that I've been using for at least 20 years. It's still in as good shape as when I bought it and I average about 25 overnight trips a year.Go to their website to order. Dan-o
I'm one and the same.Gotta luv it when they break out the Vic Chestnutt tunes.Last Dance appears to be in a strong rotation these days also.My main issue with G-Mac was that he just couldn't play the dark stuff like Mikey could and Jimmy can, but he's a truly nice guy and I hope he finds success in the future Dan-o
Fished the Kings this weekend.Fishing was a little tough due to the rental crowds, but I did manage to catch and release an 18" smallmouth just before stopping to camp yesterday evening. Caught a few others up to 14" or so. Took the flyrod but wound up sticking with spinning gear due gusting winds. Even spinfishing, about the only way to fish effectively was to stop and wade the better pools using a little extra weight. Dan-o
