  1. Yes towards the dam in the morning, I was catching the crappie about 1/2 way down on the east side of the lake, 8-15' of water, chartruse 1/64th ounce jigs. On my fly rod, and the bass were on clousers and woolybuggers.
  2. Fished it twice this spring out of my kayak, caught lots of crappie and bluegill, saw a few bass that would have gone 8lbs or bigger saw lots of small 15" and shorter bass Only caught a few bass, all were 12-15" in length.
  3. Not much changed from last week, water is still dropping each day, a little rain here and there but nothing that has effected the river. The water is still clear and in great shape, with the clear water it is time to start using lighter line, 2 or 3 lb is recommended, no blue, white or braided lines as these will put the fish off their feed when used in clear water. Great dry fly fishing the past few weeks, Caddis, Adams, Griffiths gnats, small lt. cahills Beetles, Ants, and Stimulators are all working very well, most flies I'm using are #14's and smaller. Pheasant tails, and sowbugs are still working best, zebra midges, copper johns, hares ears, burlaps and micro eggs are still working very well, most of these I'm fishing about 24"-36" under and indicator. Big woolybuggers are working well early in the morning, brown, black, and olive have been working the best. I use the smaller woolybuggers in the late morning and afternoons, same colors. Power bait is still working best in zone 1, the white eggs, and the brown eggs have been working the best, on the overcast days and sometimes early in the morning flo. yellow and flo. orange is pretty good. Roostertails are still working for the first 30 minutes or so, black, brown, olive and white have been effective colors. Micro jigs, grubs small thread jigs have really been working well, the white, olive, brown, tan and the black/yellow have been the best colors. Plastic worms have been good, cheese yellow, white, orange/white and orange peel have all been good this week. Small gold spoons are good right now, as are crankbaits and smaller mister twister type of plastic baits. In zone 3 night crawlers power bait white paste and the yellow paste are a good bet right now. Good luck on the river this week. 4. I've never had a fly a brookie wouldn't try to eat
  5. Water is decent, about a foot or so over normal, good flow, got that greenish milky color. Mostly nymphing, but a few are being caught on caddis and beetles.
  6. Small light weight and waterproof, and accurate. I'm wanting to buy a set of digital scales, just wondering what your likes and dislike were, if you have a set and like em tell me why if you have bought a set and dislike them, tell me why, just trying to get some info before I buy a set.
  7. I'm still catching them in 2-8 feet of water some have spawned out, some are just starting to spawn, I caught 4 yesterday over 10" one was 13" it was a pig, here is a pic. I think this is a greenie/gill hybrid but I caught a bunch of them yesterday, and some regluar gills also.
  8. Roaring River came up about 3 ft last night, murky and fast today. If we don't get a bunch of rain tonight, the river should be in good shape again by memorial weekend.
  9. Fishing was good this morning, hitting drys up by the hatchery
  10. Roaring River is still in pretty good shape, about a foot and 1/2 over normal, not perfectly clear, but not muddy, has that greenish tinge to it, 3' of visability in still water with the sun up a bit better, some dry fly fishing, but not much, still catching most of the trout on buggers, san juan worms, copper johns, glo-balls, flash back hares ears and pheasant tail nymphs. The river is fishable and getting better everyday, the river has dropped quite a bit just today.
  11. We lucked out last night and early this morning, some high winds and some rain, but not enough to mess the river up, it is still in good shape and clear. Been catching trout on caddis, blue wing olives, tricos, beetles, ants, stimulators and griffiths gnats. Good nymphs now are the pheasant tails, gold ribbed hares ears, sow bugs, burlaps copper johns, zebra midges, prince nymphs and san juan worms. Glo-balls will work all day long, as will thread jigs and woolybuggers. Water is clear, so 2lb(7X) tippet will work best on dries, fishing nymphs I'm getting by just fine on 3lb(6X) tippet. Kids day is saturday the 15th of may, all childern fish free all day, holes being stocked and reserved just for kids are from the low water bridge, just south of the old CCC lodge, up to the top hole by the hatchery, kids only 15 and under fish in these holes all day saturday, so bring the kiddies and have some fun.
  12. Snakes are thick on the warm days, its those dang saber toothed frogs that scare the crap out of me. Water is in good shape, fishing has been good.
  13. Yes it is a native watercraft 12' it is fantastic, I've been fishing out of it since last year and it works much better for me than my old canoe and is more stable, I'm really enjoying the kayak this year. Fishing has been really good and that makes the kayak just that much more fun, it is easy to carry on my car and will go in about 4 or 5" of water. I bought it at Dynamic Earth in springfield, they are right over by Cox hospital on Republic road, here is their website www.dynamicearth.net
  14. I think it is just the way I had to hold them, they all appeared to be in good shape. There were some on beds, and some holding just out in the deeper water, I think a lot of them are yet to spawn, the water temp is about 60, the pond is spring fed, but the bass will spawn soon, and then the gills, can't hardly wait.
  15. Caught a bunch of bass today and some really good sunfish, caught an 11" sunfish on my new rod and reel, good way to break em both in. I caught em on poppers, woolybuggers, whistles and some on small spoons, nice day to be on the water, that is for sure. Can't wait till tomorrow, more fishing, then back to work
  16. I use a small portable fish finder when fshing on fellows lake, it fits on the kayak kinda like a trolling motor, it does work great for temp, depth, and for finding drop offs and brush piles, I use it on table rock to when hunting for rock piles and crappie beds, works pretty good.
  17. www.dynamicearth.net I bought my native watercraft from these guys, they have kayaks for everything. Lots of good fishing style kayaks here, check em out.
  18. Fished lake Leatherwood today, Leatherwood is a lake 2 miles west of Eureka Springs Arkansas. caught some nice crappie, a bunch of 12-14" bass, a few nice bluegill and lots of small gills, it was a good day to be on the water, I'm really getting my moneys worth out of this new kayak. all the crappie I caught today were males, didn't clean a single female, so I guess it will be even better in a few days, didn't spot any beds, and the water is very clear right now in the lake. Caught em all on my 6' 5wt fiberglass fly rod, it was a hoot, almost everything today on a small 1/80th ounce jig, fished back in short slow strips, chartruse was the color for me today. Caught a few bass on brown and white clousers.
  19. This is on the web site http://www.watershedcommittee.org/wordpress/?p=151 UPDATE/CURRENT STATUS– CLOSED Valley Water Mill Lake has been closed to fishing for some time, but each day we get one step closer to once again having a great fishing spot on the north side of Springfield. Read below for some information on the history and character of the lake, the fisheries management plan for the lake, and other Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s). We are making every effort to provide a premier fishing destination for the Ozarks region. What can anglers do? Please be patient as we let the new populations develop!! The lake renovation process has taken time, but we are almost to the finish line. Illegal harvest will reduce the overall quality of the new fishery, and if excessive, can derail the entire process. For more information on the developing fishery at Valley Water Mill Lake, please contact Kara Tvedt, Fisheries Management Biologist, at 417/895-6881, ext. 265.
  20. congrats, I have the rod ready come by and get it.
  21. Roaring River is still up a foot and clearing, not muddy it has that sort of greenish look to it right now, fishing has been good. Nymphs like copper johns and pheasant tails are good right now, san juan worms and glo-balls are good also. Good dry fly fishing caddis, blue wing olives, tricos in the mornings and afternoons, and still some good fish being caught on woolybuggers.
  22. I was out at Fellows last week, the lady told me no swimming and that float tube fishing wasn't allowed. I ask her to make sure, I was fishing out of my Kayak so it wasn't an issue, fishing was good for me, I had a big musky take a swipe at a fly and caught several crappie, no size to them but they were fun, the musky looked to be about 30"
  23. No way to really tell you what it will be like in may, you'll just have to watch the reports and watch the weather. R.R. can flood, not as bad as bennett yet, the water hasn't got into the hatchery, yet.
  24. The only cabins right on the river belong to the state 417-847-2330 Joe Bacon has some nice cabins not far from the river. Call him at 417-236-5902
  25. Crossed Crane Creek on the way home tonight, it is big and brown and still running pretty hard, but crane clears quickly and it should be fishable by the weekend, just use heaiver nymphs and fish the pocket water. When the water is like it is now, any hole that is over a foot deep might hold a trout, these trout spread out when the water is up, and move around a lot.
