  1. Mega worms, San juan worms, big black woolybuggers, micro eggs, pheasant tails, soft hackles, fishing has been pretty good, water is still murky, with a strong flow, starting to see a few caddis and blue wing olives.
  2. Spoons are ok, if the fisherman removes the treble hook, and replaces it with a single hook that has a fly tied on it, I have fixed spoons like that many times for my customers. We do Rapalas like that to, great in zone 2.
  3. Droppers are legal in all zones
  4. One knows the guys at the hatchery, and I ask a lot ? I don't think it is posted anywhere, except where I post when I know.
  5. Fished a bit down below RR this morning, brrrrr cold, but I caught a couple before I froze out
  6. Capps, Hickory, and lower Roaring River were all stocked on feb. 24th. At Roaring River 8000 more trout were stocked into zones 1, & 2, this week, along with 100 more trout over 18" (lunkers) I'm sure zone 3 was stocked, but I forgot to ask, usually they stock a few hundred down there for the opening.
  7. Open usually on weekdays at 9, close at 5
  8. Water is in great shape, looks like its going to be a good opener this year, lots of nice trout in the water, a lot of 15"-17" trout that are ready to go. With all the nice sized trout, there are several hundred in the river that are over 3 lbs, a few of these are over 10lbs, and there are a couple that are 14lb +, we caught all these over the winter, and at the close of the C&R season these fish were all still alive and doing well. Start fishing at 6:30 a.m. on the 1st, lots of people will get their limits and leave, some will fish several hrs and some might fish all day, the later in the day there will be fewer people and the fishing for the bigger fish should be eaiser. Probably eaiser to start with a spinning rod, and when the crowds thin out, pick up the fly rod. Roostertails, mepps, trout spinners of all kinds will work great all day, but better in the morning. Black, skunk, brown, green, and metalic spinners work great most days. Marabou jigs, micro jigs, and little ozark jigs will all be effective most all day, if the water stays clear like it is right now. Roaring River Specials, as always will catch trout all day. Plastic worms will be one of the best choices for trout, the trout haven't seen these all winter and the seem to like em, so as always the trout worms will work great, the best colors are the orange, orange/white, cheese, white, mint green and electric chicken. If salmon eggs are your thing, then have at it they will work great all day, but most times the trout will swallow them so only use them if your going to keep most of what you catch, if your going to do any C&R your better off using jigs or even worms are better than eggs, but for a quick limit, its hard to beat a plastic salmon egg. Water is clear, so the use of 2 or 3 lb line will work best, first thing in the morning 4lb is a good choice, the use of a clear line or a green line like Gama, or Maxima will usually work best. If your going to fish in zone 3, then the powerbait paste and the nuggets will work well, nightcrawlers and minnows are good also, but you can use anything in zone 3 so fish what you want. Should be a good Opener this year, have fun, and be safe. Great C&R season this year. 10. I shoot a RWS Diana 54, .22 caliber, great rabbit/squirrel rifle
  11. Next stocking is the end of this month Last stocking was just before Cristmas
  12. It starts where off Davis holler enters Roaring River, just a bit above the big gravel conservation parking area, on F hwy, just past the sign that tells you, you are leaving Roaring River State park. Below the park, zone 3 is closed nov 1st- till the end of February, it reopens for fishing march 1st.
  13. MDC has plenty of signage up that gives you that info, if not when Steve catches you, he will inform you while he is writing out your ticket, you can fish down to the whistle bridge now, the area between the old dam and the whistle bridge is a strange area now, you got to have a permit to fish it(3$ day tag)the 3$ tag only applies to march 1st-october 31st but below the whistle bridge you can fish on just your trout stamp, March 1st- October 31st There are several of these signs posted around, plus all the lower access roads(zone 3) are padlocked and have this sign on them. The MDC really should lable the area below the dam to the new bridge zone 2A or something like that, because you can still use anything you want right below the dam, and into zone 3, but all of zone 2 is fly only, it does make it a bit confusing. We are hoping the MDC is going to extend zone 2 a mile or so further on down into zone 3, making that part of zone 3 into zone 2, making zone 3 about 1/2 the length it is now, there have been talks about doing this, but nothing has ever been done, yet.
  14. Zone 3 starts at the new whistle bridge ends where off Davis holler enters Roaring River
  15. Zone 3 is closed nov 1st- the end of February, reopens March 1st A few smallmouth down below curry bridge, very few above the bridge
  16. Nope, that's all conservation land down below off Davis holler, down to the big left hand bend, that turns back to private land, but you can fish it all the way to Muncie without any problems.
  17. What little point? Were you down below off Davis holler?
  18. Well you can tie it anyway you want, I tie some eggs with 6 or 7 colors, I call them scrambled eggs, so tie what you like.
  19. This one ? Cotton candy, lt. Roe, & Oregon cheese
  20. Still in good condition, unless we get a lot of rain tonight, it will be fine.
  21. Roaring River Resort, only thing open near the river until march 417-847-3235 Bathroom down by the pool open til dec 1st Bathroom at hatchery, open year round, pit toilet, at the back of campground one open all year. Campground 1 open year round, nothing is open in the park, so if you want something, bring it with, or you'll be going into Cassville to get it. Several motel/hotels in Cassville.
  22. Water is clear and running normal, fishing has been good, lots of 3-4 pound trout in the water
  23. They are not spawning at the moment, go now, wear orange, fishing was very good last week.
