  1. I'll have some in the mail to you next week, gotta help them out, there are a lot of fish that need caught up there
  2. We really lucked out yesterday, only about 1 1/2" of rain and most of it fell in the evening, we had 1" in an hour and then it was over, the river is in great shape, we didn't flood and it is supposed to be a pretty weekend. Here are some pics of the river this morning. http://s171.photobucket.com/albums/u294/ti...nt=P6140025.jpg http://s171.photobucket.com/albums/u294/ti...nt=P6140026.jpg I could still see the bottom in most of the holes, and it was still pretty dark out when I was down. Beetles tore the trout up yesterday, should be good today also.
  3. Let me say there are no real cutthroat in the parks, just their DNA, they have been using milt from cutthroat for awhile now, or so I was told a few years ago, by a MDC hatchery employee.
  4. Brook trout have been caught out of Roaring River, I have one on the wall that is 16.5" long and weighed 1 1/2 pounds, biggest Brookie ever caught in Missouri, accordiing to the MDC.
  5. cutthroat are already in the parks, they have been breeding them with the rainbows for years.
  6. 1200-1500 anglers on the river on fathers day is not uncommon, but I'll bet this year it will be less than that.
  7. I think that is why Phill put the map up on the forum, so guys could print it off and use it, just be nice to all the fish you catch. Good luck.
  8. there is a really big snapper up by the ball field there in town, I've seen it a lot this spring, MDC knows where he is, they won't bother him, he is just doing his thing, but he has a nasty attitude He'll measure 24" or bigger accross the shell, has a head as big as a softball, and he hisses alot, he is very pissy.
  9. Well my Rolex is my best waterproof watch, but I wear an old timex sport when fishing it is olive drab green and not flashy and has been waterproof on many trips, don't know about if you went swimming with it, but it has been in the water a lot and has never fogged up or quit working, and it only cost 30.00 at Campmor.com
  10. Hey if anybody found an old Phluger gold fly reel with a 5wt DT line(green) at taney last night, call me or PM me I know the guy who lost it and he would like to have it back.
  11. I always catch a trout or two at capps using a woolybugger or a san juan worm. There is a lot of nice water on below the mill, just have to walk a ways to get there, but it is worth the walk, the area around the mill gets fished hard with corn and bait, but most people won't take the 10 or 15 minute walk downstream, and there are usually a few good fish down that way. Good luck. Let us know how you do.
  12. March brown rods are great, I sell them and use them, I have 9' 10pc 5wt, I took it to New Zealand last time I went and it performed great, used it for a month, I have used it several times at Taney and is a good rod to keep in the jeep, it takes up no room at all, I also have the 7pc 8wt, I use for bass, and will be taking it to alaska this sept. and I have one of the 6 1/2-5 1/2 covertables, that I have used on the san juan and in the mtns. of colorado, the rods are great and they stand behind their rods, I know I have broke two of them and have sent them back and they were returned in less than two week, I broke both in dumb ways, one in a ceiling fan, the other a client of mine fell on it while we were in my boat. The rods are good and the price is right in line with other similar rods.
  13. I think Michael sell the Hibernator in his shop in springfield 417-889-6548, give him a call, he ships.
  14. It was a very good week here at the park, we still have a strong flow of water out of the spring but it is pretty clear now, you can see fish and they can see you, so 7X and 6X are the norm now, you can still get away with 5X when fishing sculpins, buggers and streamers. I have been catching alot of fish on elk hair caddis #16's, and #16 adams, and crackle backs have been good also, I'm using a green body, grizzly hackle on mine right now. Nymph fishing is still very good, I'm fishing copper johns, with zebra midge or micro egg droppers, and san juan worms, chamois worms and small sow bugs have been effective all week. We are still catching a lot of trout on big buggers in the morning, and smaller baby buggers in the afternoon. I have had some good reports on fisherman catching several fish in the afternoons on beetles and ants, and even a few being caught on hoppers already. I caught one on friday on a huge # 8 foam ant, I guess he was extra hungry. Anyway fly fishing is getting better all the time, so come give it a try, see ya on the river.
  15. I used to tie rubber legged jigs for a guy here at R.R., he had a lot of luck with them, he used the black with white rubber legs, so he could see his jig, there are a few others around here that fish and tie their own. We tied them mostly on a 1/32 ounce head, but I know a fe guys tieing them down to 1/100 oz heads and using the micro rubber to make the legs, they look like good baits. I fish them for bluegill and goggleye, but haven't fished them for trout.
  16. Ok it's here kids day, but it has started out great, best weather in days and lots of fish, here is the first nice fish caught, this is one happy lucky kid, congrats 6.8 oz. http://s171.photobucket.com/albums/u294/ti...nt=P5170022.jpg
  17. Last year it was the low water bridge(below the lodge) all the way to the hatchery roped off for kids 15 and younger. the hatchery will stock the holes several times thru out the day. the stocked over 5000 fish last year just for the kids, and they put out 100 lunkers last year for the kids. sunday is a great day to fish, there are tons of fish left and lots of 3lb + fish left in the river.
  18. Kids Fishing Day - May 17 & August 16 Held at Roaring River State Park. If you have a kid bring them down, or borrow a kid and bring them down, it should be a lot of fun. All kinds of stuff for kids, and lots of prizes, if it is anything like last year.
  19. I've got a Dr. that makes shop calls, and works on the barter systyem, best Dr. ever. He deserves a tip once in awhile.
  20. Sure if they have done you a good job, I can't see where a tip would do any harm, might just be the push they needed that day, but I only tip if the person has done a good job. I have tipped a Dr. but I have the best Dr. in the world, never a lawyer but I've never needed a lawyer yet I tip when I feel like it. I have waited tables a bit when I was younger, and let me tell you what a good waitress is well deserving of a tip, they work hard. My wife and I were at resturant in springfield the other night, and we had the worse service I've had in a long time, I tipped her very little to make a point, she was rude, only came by once and acted like it was out of her way to see if we were doing ok. Good help is hard to find. So Rusty only tip if you feel it is deserved.
  21. sounds like you guys had a good trip. I only caught 3 this morning and all of them on a green woolybugger. I can't wait for the water to go down so I can fish drys and sight fish more.
  22. As long as the rains don't hammer this area, the water should be fine for your trip, the river looks better everyday.
  23. Roaring river is in great shape right now, the water is clearing everyday, you can see maybe 4' in some holes now and the volume of water is slowing and making the fishing eaiser, especially if you are fly fishing. Good flies this week were the caddis, adams, griffiths gnats, lt. cahills and we are still catching a few on beetles. Nymphs that worked well this week, were the copper johns, pheasant tail nymphs, micro eggs, zebra midges, burlaps and sowbugs were all good. Woolybuggers in olive, black, and brown also were effective this past week. With the water clearing 6X tippet is working better than 5X tippet, but I'm still using 5X on my big woolybuggers and 6X on the nymphs, and I'm using 7X when throwing dry flies. Marabou jigs in olive, black/yellow, olive, tan and white all worked well this past week, the water is getting clearer and the micro jigs are starting to work better. Thread jigs and glo-balls were to use this week also, best color of thread jig is still the white, glo-balls in orange, chartruse and orange seemed to be the best. If you are using powereggs, and powerworms, then the water is perfect for that type of fishing right now, the best colors in the power worms this week were the cheese, white, and the orange peel, if you were using eggs, then hatch brown, white and the orange were the best colors. Roostertail spinners, spoons, and small crankbaits continue to work well, if you are using spoons let them sink deep and work them back very slowly, same thing with the spinners, and on the little crankbaits, sometimes a extra sinker a foot or so above the crankbait will help get it down where the bigger fish are waiting. In zone 3 minnows, powerbait paste(white) and corn have all been effective. Good luck on the river this week.
  24. We lucked out over here, purdy got hit hard and there was a small area north of Cassville and just south of butterfield that had some damage. Here at the park we didn't get hardly anything, some wind and a little rain, but everything over this way is still fine. Hope everybody else is ok, it was a terrible thing about the damage and the death in purdy, didn't know of any other deaths, hope there weren't any. We are praying for everybody and hope things work out for all that were effected.
  25. I have the Keen wading sandles, but I usually still wear my boots especially on the small streams, seems to be more crap in there, glass, barb wire, and just the stuff washed in from floods, I'm sure some of it is litter, but most seems to stuff washed down stream, I feel my boots give me more protection. I save the sandles for kayaking, canoeing and fishing in the Park (roaring river)
