  1. That ain't what I meant I'm just not sure of the time I'll be there in the morning and see if there are any around Then I have to keep moving, this is the last day of the move to Billings. I hope to be seating down about 5 and it will be mostly done, I'll get to capps about 7 in the morning, I'm just going to fish an hour then back to loading the trailer. I hate moving.
  2. Don't know when today, just that is was done today.
  3. Capps and Hickory both got fresh stockings of trout today, go have fun the weather is great, catch one for me, I can't go fishing untill after 5 this evening.
  4. anybody ever see one of these ? http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u294/timsfly/P3030001.jpg My security camera caught a pic of this, I'm not sure what it is, part possum part child. If anybody knows what this is let me know. I think they are native in the Aurora Missouri area

  7. Thank you, I will try to catch one about 6:30, I won't fish with the crowds long, I'll have to come back up to the shop and work. Thank you for the B-day greeting
  8. your right Terry there will be about 2000 fishing and about 4000 driving around looking, but it will still be better than working
  9. http://mdc4.mdc.mo.gov/Documents/12616.pdf Go to this link and you will get times for the whole season. March 6:30-6:00
  10. Water is in great shape at Roaring river this year. Normal flow and clear, it should be a good one, I was just down at the river and there are tons of fish in the river and they are going to stock more tomorrow. Lots of lunkers in the river, there will be over 6000 fish in the river for opening, 4000 will be stocked this week and there were about 2000 in the river from the C&R season, and the hatchery is stocking 50 lunkers 18" or longer (3lb and over fish) and there were probably about 100 in for the C&R season so there will be 100 + 18" and longer fish in the river for opening. There are two fish in the Falls hole that will go 10 lb easy, those will be fun for someone. First thing in the morning I'll start with a rooster tail, black, skunk, or maybe brown, and then I'll switch off to a white or black/yellow jig when the action on the roostertail slows down. I'll be using 2lb maxima on my spinning rod(I'll use the fly rod when the crowds get smaller in the afternoon), 2 or 3lb maxima will be your best bet on opening day, you can probably use 4 at the siren, but I would switch back to lighter line shortly there after. Other good baits on opening day are ther orange, orange/white, white and the flo. chartruse worms, these have always been good colors on opening day, now if you want to start with the fly rod, then I would suggest a woolybugger or a woolyworm, both are great starters in the morning and will work all day long, black, brown or olive are usually the best colors. If you can find a spot to cast a bit, then a pheasant tail nymph, or a hares ear will catch fish all day long, a glo-ball or a thread jig in white, orange, pink, oregon cheese or lt. roe are always good choices for early morning fishing at Roaring river or any other trout park you may choose to visit. Marabou jigs are always catching fish here at the park, the Roaring River special is the best jig to use early it is easy to see and the fish like em, after that when the fish get spooky, the micro jigs work well, as do any small marabou jigs. What ever you choose to fish with on Opening weekend will probably catch you some fish, go with ligh line and enjoy the day, good luck
  11. If the water is unwadable at Taney, then you can go to Roaring River or Bennett springs and wade fish, and there is Crane creek.
  12. any good closed cell foam will work, the stuff at wal-mart is ok, it tears a little faster than foam that wapsi sells, I use the 1/8" from wapsi, it is tough comes in a lot of good colors and floats high. Make sure what ever you use is closed cell, unless you want a sinking beetle, but hey sinking beetles work well in the riffles here at roaring river or during hard rain, a lot of beetles get knocked in the water. Good luck.
  13. Yes, but not for a few years. I fish spring river around verona once or twice a month in the winter, and I fish capps creek every couple of weeks. I fish shoal creek down where capps enters into shoal creek, this time of year you'll see a trout in there once in awhile. These rivers are all real close to home, so I get over to them in the afternoons a lot during the winter. I may fish Capps tomorrow evening, depends on how much I get done around the shop tomorrow.
  14. I started on the upper end of Crane west of town. I ended up on some private water below town, that is where I had the most luck. I didn't see anything real big, but I have seen and caught a few down there that were in the 15-17" range, but didn't see any today. I only had a few hours to fish, and had to run back to springfield. But what a beautiful day.
  15. Water at Crane is in pretty good shape, fished a few hours today and mangaged to catch 8 trout, all were small and in very good shape, biggest was about 10" I caught a creek chub that was almost that big Caught most of my fish on a glo-ball, but did manage to catch a couple on a #10 mohair leech (olive) Nearly got run over by a red fox, don't know what he was doing out in the day light, but he didn't look sick, and he was fast on his feet. It was a good day for wildlife, saw a lot of turkeys and several deer, I guess they were out enjoying the warm weather.
  16. If you tie lots and lots of glo-balls, the Anvil 4" serrated curved are going to be hard to beat, they last a long time, if you buy Dr.Slicks, make sure you get serrated, as for me anyway, they cut deer hair and glo-ball yarn better.
  17. I have shown the leather san juan worm to all the game wardens here at Roaring river and they don't have any problems with the fly as long as it is not scented they don't care. I don't know about bennett but they are ok here at Roaring River.
  18. Yes rapalas are leagle in zone 1 and zone 3, and they work great. Any small crankbait will catch trout at roaring river. Small Spoons are good to, treble hooked lures are leagle in zone 1 and 3, so bring your hardware and have some fun on march 1st.
  19. Well, if you are comming in from eagle rock, it is the second county road on your left. Don't know the road #. If that isn't right, when you get to the conservation area just outside the park, on hwy F, turn around and it is the first county road on your right, and about 1 mile down that road. the cematary is on the left, and the river of course is on the right. I usually park in that area and walk upstream, the water all looks good now, but there are the usual holding areas, so be prepared to walk a lot and fish all the water that looks good, with the higher water we have right now you could find a trout in any good looking water, but there are several good holes about a 1/2 mile above the cemetary, and a few down below as well, good luck. A big bugger is always a good choice down thru there.
  20. Go ahead and take the day off, you should never let a job come between you and fishing. March 1st is a a day of maddness and fun. So come prepared :)Here is a march 1st crowd http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u294/timsfly/opening1.jpg
  21. Fishing was pretty good so far today, nice and wet, nobody around, but I did mangage to catch a lot of small fish, and these two, one was 8 and the other was 7 pounds, caught them both on a #16 apricot glo-ball. http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u294/timsfly/P2120038.jpg http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u294/timsfly/P2120040.jpg I'm heading back as soon as I dry out a bit, and yes of course Steve was there, he was just starting to fish as I left, he can have the peace and quite for awhile.
  22. I sell a lot of those rods, and the 7' is the most popular, we grew up fishing those rods and for the money they are a lot of fun, eagle claw used to make a 5 1/2 foot and it was a blast on the creeks, but I got the most use out of the 6 1/2 on the creeks around home and I used the 7' at R.R. till I was 14, I then went to a 7 1/2 fenwick, fenglass. Which ever size you buy it will be a good rod.
  23. Hard to beat a black/yellow 1/64th-1/32nd ounce jig, white, brown, and olive are good colors right at the siren. I like the white jig best, easy to see and has always worked good for me when I was spin fishing. The black, skunk, or olive roostertail in a 1/16th ounce size is good to start with. You can fly fish in the afternoon, a lot of people will be there at the siren, but a lot will be gone by 1:00. There are alot of flies you can use on your spinning rod, a cork and a jig, cork and a pheasant tail, or about any other jig under a cork is good, when you don't have room to cast your fly rod. If you fish the upper end, a rapala minnow or a rebel crawdad can work for the bigger fish, you'll get lots of small fish also, but those big ones seem to like the rapala and the rebel lure actions. Good luck, and it might be warm enough for camping, you never know what it will be like around that time, I've seen it 50 at night and I've seen it with 10" of snow on the ground and all the power out in the park that was a night. Good luck.
  24. http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u294/ti...tsignwinter.jpg Sorry, I hope this works better, there are several of these signs around, but I don't know exactly how many, Jerry told me around 12, but they sure could be eaiser to read or maybe bigger.
  25. Steve will be there, he is in the park everyday, I'm not sure when he gets any work done
