  1. It retailed for 1495.00, I paid 850.00+ 75.00 for the shipping. I would take 800.00 for the Kayak, with the seat, paddle, and peddle system, I think they are still about 1500.00 haven't check the retail price in awhile.
  2. All of these trout were caught the past few weeks here at Roaring River state park.
  3. I have a Hobie Cat, it is I think a Hank Parker special, it has the peddels and rudder, I like the rudder very much, I haven't used the peddles much, but the few time I put them in they worked just like the video shows on the Hobie cat web site. If you are interested in one, I'll sell you mine at the wholesale price, I'm going to pick up a new preditor over at Dynamic earth this spring. Mine is 3 years old and only used on sundays to pull stumps, and a little drag racing
  4. Great videos guys, it was a good watch, you need to do that once or twice a year
  5. What ya got will work, sizes #10's-#14's work best for me, better take some buggers also.
  6. I have a point and shoot water proof Olympus SW720, I like is because it is waterproof and I'm around the water quite a bit. .
  7. Best place in Missouri to view eagles is around a chicken farm. There are always a few around.
  8. http://www.cassville-democrat.com/story/1490200.html I have seen this numerous times on the prarie between RRSP and Washburn Missouri. I wish I had a better camera, sometimes you can get 10 or 15 yds from the before they will fly, I think they are full of dead chickens, you see this around chicken farms a lot around Cassville.
  9. Once when going to Mexico they let me carry on all my flies on at springfield, and when flying back from Mexico, they took my flies and my forceps away from me and thru them in the trash, they took the flies because of the hooks, I had a lot of bonefish and permit and tarpon flies, so I would just carry on rods and reels and check everything else. When I fly to N.Z. I always pack the essentials rods, reels, and small stuff I can pack in my carry on, you can buy clothes over there pretty easy, but fly tackle is very expensive in N.Z.
  10. It would be nice if trout would always hit up near or on the surface. you know I do the same thing when smallmouth fishing, I always try to get them to come up and I do better when I use heavy streamers, at least on most days. But I have a heck of a time making my self use enough weight when smallmouth or largemouth fishing.
  11. I've been doing some of that Czech nymphing, and have had some good days high sticking the faster deeper water I have managed a few big fish doing this. When the big fish are being pissy, they will go deep, and that style of fishing really offers those trout a tasty snack, that they would never see if it wasn't for the extra weight. duckydoty do you do the Czech nymphing in Alaska alot ?
  12. Huge crowds this weekend, nice weather on friday and saturday brought people out of their homes. It was nice to wear T-shirt on fri and sat. afternoon. We had good fishing all weekend, sunday morning I did very well on eggs, the weather had turned nasty, I love it that way, but I'm built for cold weather, I have extra insulation Not very many people down on sunday maybe 50 people total, I fished below the F-hwy bridge most of sunday, very nice hardly anybody down that way. Most of the fish in the river are on the upper end, I would guess most of the 10lb + fish in the river now are in the first 15 holes there are several over 10 in the falls hole, and there is one here and there all the way to dry hollow, and there are several in the C&R area, but the 3 and 4 lb fish are everywhere, and the browns the MDC stocked a few weeks ago are really starting to hit, I caught a bunch of nice 12-14" browns on friday up by the lodge, most came on a pheasant tail or a scud, a few came on a #16 crackle back. There was a lot of dry fly action on fri, and sat, it slowed up a bit on sunday, but still a few were rising in the afternoon in zone 2 down by the handi-cap dock. Roaring River is in great shape, the extra water right now is making the fishing better than it has been in awhile. We have been doing very well on Caddis, Blue wing olives, Adams, and griffiths gnats, most dries I'm fishing right now are #16's and smaller, but I have had a few guys tell me they are still catching them on bigger stimulators, friday and saturday we were doing well on beetles and ants, I guess the 70 degree temps and the winds helped out there. I have went back to 6X tippet for nymphs, and 7X for dries and 5X for bigger flies, the water was crystal clear on friday and it murked up on sat, and is still dirty, sometimes this happens, nobody really knows why, but it can take a few weeks for it to clear, and it could clear up by next friday, we just never know. Cracklebacks with a yellow or a light green body did well for me this weekend, both were tied with light brown hackle. I did very well on egg colored glo-balls this weekend, the rainbows are still in spawn mode, so eggs will be very effective for another few weeks, eggs always work, but when the bows are spawning they are even better. Bunny bugs caught me a few fish this weekend, I think I only caught 3 this weekend on bunny bugs, all three were over 5lbs but the fish are not hitting them as aggressively as they have been the past few weeks. Pheasant tail, copper johns, zebra midges, brassies, san juan worms, thread jigs and micro eggs all were good this week, with the extra water a extra #4 split shot really helps get your nymphs down. I fished behind one guy on friday, and caught fish out of every hole he left, we were both working upstream and as he left a hole I would move up, now he was catching a few, but I was doing much better he was getting maybe 1 or 2 fish before he moved, and I was catching as many as 6 fish before I would move, we got to talking up near the lodge, the only real difference in my rig and his was I had 2 #4 shot on my rig and he only had 1 #4 shot on his setup, I was just getting down better, he switched to 2 #4 shot and headed upstream, and he was doing better he caught 6 trout out of the hold just above the bridge by the lodge, and later he told me he did that at most every hole he fished, the extra weight made a difference. I talk to a lot of fisherman fly fisherman and spinfisherman, and sometimes I'll talk to the guy who is so opposed to weight, to the point that it costs him a lot of fish, some tell me they never thought about putting weight on there leader, sometimes when the water is higher or has a strong flow weight will be needed to get th fly down to where the fish are holding. Spin fisherman do the same thing sometimes, they will set there worm or salmon egg up just like they did when the water was low and never think about putting on more weight on when the water is 24" higher. So even when you are using bead heads, a shot will usually be needed especially if you are using a indicator. For R.R. right now, I'm fishing a 9' leader, the last 3 feet will be 6X tippet most of the time, I'll tie a pheasant tail on as my first fly, and I'll tie about 15" of 6X tippet to the bend of the hook on the pheasant tail and then tie on a micro egg or a zebra midge, and I'm using in most of the holes 2 #4 split shot, I'm pitching this rig right into the fast water, trying to cast between the rocks, there are some real nice fish holding in some of these areas, and I see people pass these areas by all the time and never try the fast water, those fish will eat, you just need more weight to get to them, now you will snag the bottom a few times, if you have enough weight on your line. I put the 2 #4 shot about 8" above my pheasant tail, I don't usually put weight down near the bottom fly. Good luck on the river this week.
  13. http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?a...ost&id=4750 call Gordon, he can make anything you want out of any type of available wood He can make it as good as anything out there you can buy. But I agree, mudhole has some good stuff. I got my last anodized blue reel seat from them, good quality.
  14. That is one good looking turtle, bet I could lose it on the first cast or two. I'll bet a big ole bass would eat it.
  15. A 10 weight or a 9 Weight is what I usually take to florida. If you need a good 10 weight, they have a $700.00 Xi2 sage at the outlet store at BP for about 350.00 right now, that is a good deal, I have bought several this month for under 400.00.
  16. You can only fish zones 1 and 2 right now, zone 3 is closed in the winter. If you are comming in on 112 from seligman, at the bottom of the hill after you enter the park you will see F-hwy, turn Right on F go till you see the sign that you are leaving R.R. State Park. About a mile after the leaving sign, you'll see a big conservation parking lot on your right, you can pull in there and park, walk straight down to the river and fish down stream, up stream is zone 3 and as earlier stated, it is off limits in the winter. Or go past the conservation pull off area, to the next road to the right, go to bottom of hill, R.R will be on your right, get out there and go fishing, there are fish all up and down thru there. Good luck.
  17. That is some good fishing for a few hrs. I did well on a big bunny bug today, I only have a couple of those T&A's and I only use them with 4X tippet, don't want to lose one. I haven't had that good a luck with the ones I'm tying. I'm still doing well on eggs and bunny bugs. Glad your getting bit of fishing in.
  18. Gordon has been working out of my shop for several years, he has fixed several rods that I figured were trashed, he fixed an old winston for a customer of mine this week, matched the thread just perfect and you can't tell where the rod was broke, really unless you knew it had been broke in 1/2, you would never know. He has rebuilt, refurbished a lot of bamboo rods the past few years, and does a fantastic job, and his prices are to cheap, I've been telling him for awhile now he needs to charge more, so next time you have a real rod problem, give him a holler. He makes a lot of his own rod components, reel seats, and inserts stuff like that.
  19. The river got a bit dirtier this afternoon, but still very fishable. We finally have some water again, the river came up a couple of feet, got a little murky and then cleared up pretty good and was getting a bit murky this afternoon when I left at 3:00. But the river is in great shape, I caught trout on bunny bugs, san juan worms, woolybuggers and a few on egg patterns today. I was able to use 5X and 4X tippet today because of the higher water, and the bigger flies. I did go to 6X when fishing the san juan worms and the egg patterns. I talked toa couple of guys this morning that were doing well on griffiths gnats, adams, and lt. cahills, both fisherman had caught several nice fish on dry flies. White thread jigs were working well for a lot of fisherman, they work well when the water is up a bit, they sink fast and fish under an indicator well. Lots of fisherman using the double fly set up, copper john, or a pheasant tail with either a zebra midge or a micro egg dropper, seemed to be working today. Glo-balls and marabou jigs were working well for a few people today, the brighter eggs seemed to be best today, I was catching mine this morning on a orange/with red dog. The bunny bug colors for me today were chartruse, and orange One fellow up by the lodge this morning was catching a few on a skunk roostertail, and he told me later a few on a gold roostertail with a black tail. The browns the hatchery stocked are easy to see right now, they are a lot lighter than the rainbows and in the shallow water they really stand out right now. Fishing is still pretty good and there are a few months of C&R left, so you need to get out and give it a try.
  20. Water is up a couple a feet, it is still clear and fishing was pretty good this morning. I caught a few on big bunny bugs, and a few on egg patterns.
  21. yes I wouldn't want one personally, but it was neat shooting it, the shot pattern was huge at 20 feet, but I guess for a close shot it would be effective. I'll stick with my traditional revolvers. I keep a shotgun behind the bedroom and living room door for home defense.
  22. I had a friend do the same thing with a flat river rock he found on Flat creek, it already had a hole, he put a tube that would hold a 3/8" stem and a set screw, some JB weld I belive to hold the tube in place and he leveled the thing off with a belt sander, I think he put the little rubber taps on it to keep it from scratching the tapbel it sat on his living room coffee table for a long time, I wonder if he still has it, it looked pretty good for something he made in about 3 hrs. Problem was it weighed about 20lbs, but your vise didn't move.
  23. I would love to see it, bring it by next time you are in the shop, I can't wait to get out and try mine out, I hope I'm back 100% by sat or sun and then I'll be fishing again.
  24. I like that Yellow rod with the red wraps, which rod is that ? They used a lot different colors (brighter) back in the 50' 60' and 70's than they do today. I've got a 9pc lamiglas fibergass rod that is wraped a lot like that yellow rod.
  25. The Dark side man I crossed the creek years ago, this is my 9th 6' 4//5wt fiberglass fly rod, I also have an old wintson 5'3" 3 wt that is a blast when the fish are hitting smaller flies I own 1 6' fenglass, 1 of the 5'3' fenglass, two to the Lee Wulff Conolon fly rods, several heddons, tru-tempers, I have an old abercrombie and fitch 4'9" 10pc fly/spin pack rod, it is a hoot, I fish it once in awhile for something different. My favorite old Creek rod is a solid 6 1/2 wonderrod, you could hold a car up whith this thing but it will still throw 5 or 6 wt line pretty good, so you see I'm on the other side of the dark side I love my fiberglass and bamboo.
