It really doesn't matter to me. I really don't much care for the "fly tying" brushes as they are CRAZY hard bristled but they will work fine too. I am really more of a Lighting McQueen guy, myself, and you will NEVER see me using a "Mater" toothbrush.

FINALLY! Someone said something about the toothbrush! Nothing says BIG NASTY STREAMER better than a little kids "Cars" toothbrush.

Thanks guys! Much appreciated.

Hey guys, The next fly in the Mike Schmidt Series is the Voodoo Squatch. I haven't fished this fly a TON yet, but as I have I have noticed one thing....MOVEMENT. This fly moves a lot differently than a lot of flies that you will see. It has a LARGE head followed by reverse tied Bucktail on the front hook.....and the back hook is nothing but Marabou and flash. The large head and Bucktail provide this "draft" that makes the back hook go crazy. Very cool fly and as fun to tie as it is to fish. Mike Schmidt's Voodoo Squatch Recipe: Back Hook Hook: Daiichi 2141 #1 (I was out of this hook so I replaced it with a #2 Gamakatsu B10s) Tail: Palmered Marabou Flash: Flashabou Wing: Marabou Bottom Wing: Marabou Connection Point: Beadalon Front Hook Hook: Gamakatsu B10s #1 Tail: Marabou (top and bottom) Flash: Flashabou Wing: Bucktail (Reverse Tied) Head: Lazer Dub Eyes: Clear Cure Eyes

I am SERIOUSLY looking forward to doing the Videography programs.....they are going to be cool.

GREAT family floating right now!

Ok......been looking at this thread thinking "Man, I really need to get in on that." So consider me IN! Not 100% sure what I will be doing but there will probably be a video involved.

There were a TON of people on the river......WOW.
-
I swear, the only semi-nice way to fish a setup like that is with a 10wt. Streamer lines are expensive, and as often as 'most' people really fish them they are hard to justify buying a line like that.....kind of like an 8wt. But both will make it easier on you in the long run.
-
There are loop-to-loop sink tips that you can add to your floating line (as long as your grain weight is proportional to your floating line weight) and also sinking leaders. The loop-to-loop sink tip will add a significant "hinge" when you are casting and take some time to get used to. The leaders are pretty cool and don't hinge quite as bad as a sink tip. The reason I suggest the Density Compensated line is that it is as close to casting a standard weight forward floating line.....but it is a sink tip. Best streamer line I have ever fished.
-
Actually, that is a complete line. http://www.rioproducts.com/fly-lines/freshwater/sink-tip/15ft-type-3-sinking-tip/ The Outbound (http://www.rioproducts.com/fly-lines/outbound/coldwater/outbound-short/) is also awesome for the tailwaters. I use a shorter sinking head on the North Fork of the White because we typically don't fish a real long way away from the boat.

That was my best day of guiding all Spring Dave.....seriously. As far as getting your dad in the video.....I was too busy taking fish off of his hook! That dude can FISH!!!
-
I am fishing them on sink-tips. The RIO 15' Density Compensated line to be exact. The Double Deceiver is a little bit like a Sex Dungeon in the fact that you really need to "prime" it before you start fishing it. I prime mine by sticking them in the water and squeezing them. Some bouyancy is a good thing as long as it doesn't float. Moving through the water they are pretty neutral, not sinking real fast and not floating.

Call us anytime.....if we aren't on the baseball field we will be there for sure.

I have gotten some emails about that every new "Seasonal" video. I am pretty sure it is a music issue. The vast majority of the tying videos I use "indie" music and for most of the Seasonal videos I use music with a copyright so youtube blocks moblie viewing. Does the same thing to me on my Droid. Don't sell yourself short.....that Goggle Eye was a freak. When you can come out and play again we will get a big Justin fish!

DIG the White Stripes. The tattoo.....yeah, ouch. It was 6 1/2 hours to finish. I didn't realize how big it was until the artist says "About half-way done" at the 3 hour mark. Stupid reel. It ended up completely biting the dust a couple of weeks ago. Thanks for the kind words guys, I appreciate it. I 'do' need to give some video credit to Justin Spencer (turns out he can "camera" pretty well with a DSLR) and my wife (who should probably be in FRONT of the camera instead of behind it)
-
I REALLY wish Justin and I could have caught that whole thing on video. My reel had been messing up a little bit that whole day, it was loose enough that my line would slip between the bottom bar and the spool so, in effect, the line would end up coming off of the back of the reel. I was throwing that crazy-huge "Hog Snare" (triple articulated awesomeness) and had just laid down a big cast when I noticed it had messed up again so I stopped and unscrewed my spool to fix it and about that time Justin says "Now is the time you are going to get a strike"..................yeah, it happened. Not a huge rainbow by any means but it was a chunk, I'm sure it was over 18" though. Absolutely crazy. The fish I was pointing at were browns, all in Summer holds and that was early June.

Hey guys, Posted this on the NFOW forum but thought I would throw it here too. Fishing this spring was a lot different than the last several we have had on and around the NFOW. Like so much of the state (and Northern Arkansas) we were REALLY dry this Spring which equals lower than usual water, and only a few days where we had what we would call "stupid" numbers of fish. The Whites were up and down locally, and Justin and myself never really spanked them either (that is kind of the "last hoorah" for Justin and I before his canoe season and my guiding season go crazy so we tend to fish together quite a bit). But with some really cool people, some crazy incidents, and what I am calling the greatest sunrise timelapse ever caught on film (ok, so probably not but it was AWESOME) I give you......the Spring 2012 Video. I hope you enjoy.

Oh SNAP!!

To be honest, if I am fishing 10 1/2 feet of water I would want more like a 20' leader. You don't want your flies directly below your indicator unless you are midging like 1' under an indicator. haha, I don't know where we are now.
-
Somewhere between the flyline and the flies..........
-
Big statement sir..... Indicator and no indicator both have their place and are equally suited for their specific water. If you are casting with a 9' leader and a 2 fly rig (making your whole rig 11+') and you are casting say, 30-40+' an indicator will tell you SO much more about what is going on with your drift and flies than the end of your flyline will. Even fishing on the NFOW, where we tend to fish really deep compared to a lot of places....I RARELY have the indicator set anywhere near the flyline because you are all but shooting yourself in the foot with real heavy flies and long casts---unless the fish eat the fly and hang on until it shows up 11' away in your flyline. But on the other hand, if you are fishing pocket water with an indicator, usually that indicator will totally kill your drift unless you are right on top of it. Most people tend to fish the indicator instead of the flies and say you are casting to a hard seam on a pocket (right behind a rock for instance) if your indicator lands in the "sexy" water you want to fish.....your flies just flew 4+' beyond where you wanted to fish and are being dragged downstream VERY fast. I guess what I am saying is that, in my eyes, if you can highstick and have no flyline on the water no indicator is usually your best bet.....if you are laying line on the water, I don't see how an indicator is a bad thing. They both have their place if we are honest with ourselves.....what we "like" to do and what is "best" to do are two totally different things.
