  1. Al the current river around doniphan and van buren hold great populations of walleye. I have a couple of buddies who fish the spring river at night for walleye and they do really well. Wish there was a better population over in this area on some of the rivers and larger streams. I also wish that MDC would stock table rock a little heavier, I think that it would be a great lake. Untill then my fav. walleye hole is hands down Greers Ferry Lake.
  2. The king shad is a great swimbait that is reasonably priced. Don't forget about the old redfin thats a great swim bait. If your looking for a great soft plastic swim bait the Berkley wild shad are great. Swim baits are awesome and people don't use them enough.
  3. Trav, I don't have the experience that you have when it comes to fishing lower taney, having just moved to springfield three years ago it has not been untill then that I began to fish taney. In the three years I have fished the lake it has been awesome. The lake holds numbers of largemouth and several I have caught go well over 5 and I have seen some BIG fish on their beds. As for the browns eating everything, almost all species that I catch on taney seem to be healthy. Taney offers great diversity and oppertunities to catch a trophy of several species. If you want walleye go to BS, Stockton, Greers Ferry, and the same goes with any species. As far as forage fish like shad declining, it may be due to the water quality not over predation.
  4. what do you mean by sport bass?
  5. Buy one and you wont be dissapointed. Try a king shad not too expensive but worth every penny.

  21. I both wade and fish from a boat and try to be very conscious of others when doing both. Using common sense goes a long way and I have experienced the wrath of mad fisherman before. Taney is a very crowded place and is almost commical at times to watch the arguments that ensue between fisherman. I feel that god has blessed me with the love for outdoors and I try to be a christian and a conservationist while I am enjoying my favorite hobbies. We all need to try and enjoy our time on the water and not get bent out of shape about what someone else is doing. We are fisherman and should all be on the same team. I had a drift boat guide pull up right where I was drifting and catching fish and tell his client to cast into the same drift lane as I. His client looked at him and asked him point blank if that was ok here. I heard the conversation since I was so close and told the guy to go ahead and cast and that we would take turns casting and drifting. I was mad at the guide but oh well thats life. As for bills situation understandable that area is impassable during low water.

    Bass

I have really been trying to figure out the bass on taney and have had a few really good days but am still unsure about where and how to pattern these fish. I know a lot depends on how they are generating water and the temp. I know the surface temp stays pretty cool but below the surface I wonder what the actual temp is. I am assuming it's a few degrees warmer. I have heard that some real hogs have been caught out of taney, my personal best is around four and half but I do believe there are some good ones in their. I have fished a few of the creek entrances and grass beds found along the river, always shallow never deep. Do you know of a deep bite? I would be interested in sharing some more info and maybe we could really figure these fish out. Spots, conditions, lures, any info would be great. I will be heading down their to do some bass fishing this week lemme know how you did.
  23. Guys great comments on poachers but one of the most abused fish around is the walleye. People love to eat them and think that every one they catch should meet their fate on a fillet board. Bass are much more prev. around these local lakes than walleye yet every walleye that people catch they keep. I love to fish and enjoy catching a variety of fish we should all work together to preserve our outdoors. Conservation is an important issue and everyone should do their part whether its walleye, crappie, or bass any type of over harvesting can devastate a fishery.
  24. Bill I was wondering what settings you use on your graph when you are drop shotting. I have never been able to see my lure and line on the graph, although I have success with the rig I usually just find the fish and the depth. Thanks I would appreciate the information.

    Walleye

Just wondering when people refer to fishing the mudflats for walleye what area of the lake are they talking about. I fish stockten from time to time and have caught quite a few good walleyes trolling crawler harnesses and shad raps but I always hear about guys drifting jig/crawlers/minnows over the mud flats. I am assuming this is adjacent to a channel somewhere? Just wondering in anyone would share in some info.
