  1. Thanks for the good report, I have never fished Roaring River but plan on fishing it in September. Will keep following the posts on RR. Sounds like you had a great time. I can tie zebra midges and cracklebacks, hope they still like them in September.
  2. The catch and release area is great! Would highly recommend it, there are some monster fish in there. There is no above the park, the park fishing starts at the spring and goes downriver. Below the park is good fishing but sometimes it takes a while to get used to where to fish and how to fish it. The spring road has several parking areas next to the fly area of the river, any of the fly water is good to fish. Hope this answered your questions. Hope you have a great time fishing. I am assuming you are fishing with flies since that is all that is allowed in catch and release and below the park. Fish hard and have a great time!
  3. thanks for the good report.....hope to get over there at the get together in august.
  4. definitely magnifiers and tippet threaders also help. I usually crowd the hook eye with my tying so these are a must
  5. will check my schedule, would love to get together with you all again. I guess its alright to invite Cricket lol
  6. the wife and i are gonna fish taneycomo tomorrow or sat. we will be fishing up by the dam if generation allows. We flyfish at montauk all the time. We aren't looking for a guide, just thought some of fellow OAF'ers might be fishing. Its our first trip to taney, have followed the forum for a long time and am excited about trying to catch a taney bow.
  7. The wife and i drove down to Branson today. We have a timeshare and are staying at Big Cedar till Sunday (25th). Wondering if any taneycomo regulars are gonna be fishing and could show a couple newbies the ropes.
  8. Thanks for the great report. Sounds like a fun day of fishing.
  9. We had two days of rain but weathered them fine. Caught lots of fish. Flies that produced were chartreuse copper john, flour. orange san juan worm, pheasant tail nymph, soft hackles stripped. Dry flies were crackleback and deer hair caddis. Sorry for the delay on reporting but been busy at work since I got back. The river was up and slightly murky, I usually have great luck on zebra midges in a variety of colors but didnt with the murky water. Had a great time.
  10. I fished the green brier park area, did great one day and got skunked the next but as was said before, the scenery was amazing. We made the 5 mile round trip to Abrams falls, then found out later that fishing was good there. Shouldve brought the rods. I second the fly shop in Gatlinburg, right behind Flapjacks resteraunt. They gave me a map of the smokies and circled some streams and labeled what type of trout was in them, very helpful. Good luck and enjoy......the scenery will make it all worth the trip even if the fish dont cooperate. I bought a 3 day fishing permit that allowed fishing anywhere in the national park, was reasonable priced, cant remember exact amount .
  11. Headed to Montauk for 9 days of fishing. Will be staying at Eagles Park slot 3+4. We have friends staying in loop 4 in the park so will be one of those places enjoying some good socializing. If anyone is also going look me up and say Hi! You cant miss me in my silver Ram 2500 quad cab with trout magnets on hood and doors lol.

  14. That would be the place Britts! lol I hope Illinois will wise up sooner than later and allow good people to protect themselves. I might just have to move to Missouri. You never know when you are gonna be placed in a situation where your life is threatened. IMO it is better to have the tools with you to get out of the situation favorably. Most of the time the other person pulling the gun on you will not be carrying it legally. It would make them think a little longer about pulling a gun if they were unsure how many of us might have a gun also.
  15. This will allow the law abiding citizen to legally carry in those locations. In my opinion the crazies and Rambo's would have been carrying if the law allowed it or not. Alot of the multiple shootings we have had would have been limited to the number of casualties if law abiding citizens could have returned fire. I am stuck here in Illinois (State of Chicago) where there is no carry law at all. Glad to hear of the new law change.
  16. Went to Montauk for the annual Ozark Flyfishers FYAO outing. Drove through a snowstorm to get to the park. We had to eat at Sirloin Stockade in Rolla because of the all you can eat steak and seafood. Probably would have been to the park before most of the heavy snow if we hadn't been so set on the good eats. Fished Sat and Sun in the park. The river was up a bit and murky. I could not catch anything under the water, had a few on and offs with a copper john. Fish were rising for something, never could figure out exactly what. Caught fish on parachute adams, cracklebacks, grey dry midge, regular adams. Good time fishing overall. The river had a fast flow to it from being up and looked in good shape. Lots of favorable changes to the stream. One big tree had been removed from the stream and will fish great this summer, it had stagnated the flow last year and didn't fish as well. Sat night we all got together and tied flies at the Searcy building across from the lodge, great time. I did see a guy upstream fishing catch two large fish, he said he caught them on red copper johns. couldn't get them to work for me. Looks like they have the fish cleaning station done located between the cemetary and the large stone shelter. will have to check it out this summer. Planning on heading back to Montauk the week of March 21st, cant wait!
  17. Montauk has a new fish cleaning station built. The guy at the lodge said they are gonna grind up all the fish scraps and feed them in the hatchery. Probably save alot of money on feed.
  18. better late than never
  19. small dry flies 18-22, larger nymphs 14-16 Some guy I talked to said 18 tricos, didnt have any trico dries, 20 griffiths gnat fooled some of them into biting. hope this helps
  20. caught a nice bow just below tan vat midday on sunday august 23rd on a 14 deer hair caddis. Only fished for 30 minutes or so.
  21. Fishing was tough in the park, water was crystal clear and slow moving in the fly area. Caught fish but really had to work at it. Switch up flies often, rarely caught more than one fish without switching flies. caught fish on griffiths gnat, red zebra midge with black ribbing, pheasant tail nymph, red copper john, white thread jig, deer hair caddis, and adams dry fly. Only fished the fly area in the park. Went outside the park and caught a nice 17 inch bow, on a deer hair caddis, midday.
  22. Thanks, got it now ......windows blocked that box.....had to temporarily allow it.
