Stream Access Law
Chief Grey Bear replied to ozark trout fisher's topic in General Angling Discussion
I have always heard that myself. But if I recall correctly, and I will have to check, but, the MDC advocates the killing of Starlings and English Sparrows in any numbers throughout the year. And I don't think that is in the Code book. But anyway we are speaking of stream trespassing. And the MDC will never advocate that or will you find it in the Code book other than to say don't do it and that no license of any type gives you permissions to do so. But if you legally enter a stream, you can fish it to the next legal access. As was just stated in a link Terry put on another thread. -
Stream Access Law
Chief Grey Bear replied to ozark trout fisher's topic in General Angling Discussion
Negatory Ghost Rider. There is a whole book called the Wildlife Code that must be adhered to. And I don't recall seeing a list of public and/or private streams. There is a list of public lands that can be used but, no such list of public waterways. Which can only mean one thing..... -
Stream Access Law
Chief Grey Bear replied to ozark trout fisher's topic in General Angling Discussion
I already buy a tag. And nowhere on that tag does it say "For fishing on state owned waters only". Now I will say that I am in total agreement private ponds and lakes are off limits. And begrudgingly add thoses stocked with fish from the MDC. -
Ahh Mr. Young. Yes indeed. Cortez the Killer. Old Man. But when I travel to fish, its the Allman Brothers for me. Toss in Live at the Fillmore East and get lost in thought and the beauty of winding your way through the Ozarks. Then play disc 2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/At_Fillmore_East

Stream Access Law
Chief Grey Bear replied to ozark trout fisher's topic in General Angling Discussion
Here is what the MoDNR has posted on their site concerning this subject. Pretty cut and dried but I am sure opinions will vary. What about fishing Missouri’s rivers and streams? Public use of Missouri’s float streams often causes conflict with private landowners. Public access to Missouri’s streams has been controlled since 1954 by Elder v. Delcour, a case decided by the Missouri Supreme Court. Navigable rivers and streams are open to all legal use by the public and fall under the control and jurisdiction of the federal government. Case law defines a navigable riveras “one that as a matter of fact is susceptible of being used in its ordinary condition, as a highway forcommerce over which trade and travel are or may be conducted in customary fashion.” (Sneed v.Weber, 307 S. W.2d68, and Elder v. Delcour, 269 S. W.2d17).In the Elder v. Delcour case, the Missouri Supreme Court concluded that a public fishing right exists upon Missouri’s small, floatable streams. The court ruled that since the ownership of the fish in the stream is vested in the public, the public has a right to fish and to take fish from the streams in a legal manner. The court ruling held that persons floating or wading in the upper Meramec River, following legal entry into that stream, were not trespassing. The Elder case has been accepted as precedent throughout the state and represents the controlling authority concerning public use of Missouri rivers and streams. Continued lawful and ethical use of Missouri’s waterways will help ensure that right for future Missourians. -
No problem. I do the same thing. We all have. I would be all for that. If the people would really do it. We all have a tendency to get lazy though. And I am certainly not above being that at times.

That insulted you???

LIAR!!!

Sorry my friend but, this just doesn't jive?????? And I certainly have no ill feelings towards you either. Or anyone else for that matter. Hell, we are just having a converstaion here. Although some seem to have very sensitive feelings. But you are right, banning felt most likely won't stop it. But it will put a big whoa to it. And isn't that better for all concerned. Well, except for the human factor. But then again we allegedly have the superior intelligence. We should be able to figure something out. Like not wading on slick rocks.

I think I read they only found 9 trout. You know I just had too!
-
I'd like to ask one more question of TF'85. Even there was just a 1% chance that you would spread didymo into Crane from some other watershed that you fished, why take the chance????? Surely there has been enough posted here that would show that there is a great possiblility as to the risk of spreading didymo and well as other invasives?????

No roast from me. I am behind you on this 1k%! I think that would be great idea.

What Are You Tying For C&r This Year?
Chief Grey Bear replied to Terry Beeson's topic in Roaring River State Park
I have had several request for my #36 Pecker Gnat tied with Musk Ox testical hair. I have about a dozen at the moment so I guess I better get busy! -
Your funny OTF. That is why I like you.
-
I just can't believe some of what I am reading here. Some here are pratically saying that yeah I may be spreading it, but I don't care. OTF is going to hold out until it is the PRIMARY cause. REALLY? The primary cause??? Any chance should be good enough. It is very ironic to read that we shouldn't fish for stressed trout in the heat of the summer because as sportsmen it is the right thing to do. But to hell with going without felt! Like I stated before, some like to claim to be flag waving conservationist. Until it becomes inconvenient. Sad really. You want undeniable proof that felt can help the spread?? I say provide undeniable proof it doesn't?
-
Great post Dano. We should all be following that advice! Or that for the last few thousand years it has not been spread by any other means. Hell they haven't even pegged this one on the Herons yet. But you guy's hadn't thought of that one. I am surpised you haven't blamed them for Aids.
-
I guess you slipped that one by me. I don't know of any waterways that are affected yet. And that is the way I would like it to remain. I like all this "I am all for conservation until it is inconvenient for me" stuff. It shows who we truely are.
-
You are right. It should have been ban 7 years ago. Why wait until it is too late? Waterfowl?? Really?? Did you stop to think for a second before you typed that??? Waterfowl have been migrating all across North America for thousands of years and yet rock snot is not wide spread. I feel like I am responding to John Stossel. I think you would be very surprised how much a "sponge"can carry. In fact the dirtiest germ carrying bactieria breeding ground hotel you have in your kitchen is your sponge. And you're spreading it everywhere your sponge comes into contact with. You ask would it cotaminate a waterway? Not as a whole in the begining but, all something needs is a start. Cancer starts with just one cell. Why take a chance??? If they were properly cleaned and sterilized before venturing into another waterway, we wouldn't have the problems we are experiencing with the spead. If fisherman want to lead the way in pounding the "conservation drum" like we always saying, and causing the least damage to the environment like we are always saying, then it would not be very easy to at the very least show your support for the very outdoors you enjoy by boycotting the use of felt.
-
We all know felt sole are not the best option available for those of us that wade. Personally I refuse to where them and won't fish with someone that does. Sims annouced clear back in 2008 they would stop producing them. I think that was a great step forward helping stop the spread of not only Didymo but, possibly other foreign invasive species and disease that can and will cause harm to our waters and the aquatic life within. I hope that Missouri will follow in the footsteps of some other states and ban them. Which really if those that use them would care enough about the environment as much as they claim, they wouldn't use them in the first place. I don't and never have or will. If you slip and fall, you were wading too fast anyway. That is my thoughts on felt in a nut shell, what say you?

Creepy Fishing Sightings
Chief Grey Bear replied to troutfiend1985's topic in General Angling Discussion
That is a classic right there!!!!! Can't believe you took a pic of me without my shirt on! -
That would be your friendly Chicago, Rock Island, & Pacific. Which I would wager some of those Eldon boys are still hitting the high iron out of Jeff City???? Days like you had here make it all worth the work. Glad you took lots of pics. They do tell a wonderful story.

Spinning Gear On Small Stream Trout
Chief Grey Bear replied to mic's topic in Wild Trout Creeks & Streams
I agree with both of you. I wouldn't go as far to say a spinning rod will out preform a fly rod but, I think they can hold their own. And of course you will have those that see the spinning rod as beneath themselves for any type of fishing. And well, that is just a matter of personal choice. It surely does not make you any less of an angler. But you may not be allowed into some crowds. Personally, I find spin fishing for trout to be a blast. I should say that I also enjoy using the fly rod, I just enjoy the spining rod more. And that may be just because I am more comfortable with it. And I wouldn' be ashamed to use it on any waters. It, to me, offers a whole different venue to trout fishing. And it is not a style usually associated with trout fishing. And maybe that is also an asspect of it that draws me to it. I am not one to follow the status quo. I tend to follow my own beat.
