  1. I need to back up here. I am starting to go against my core beliefs on this issue just for the sake of arguing with jd. Many things said by him and others here are what I believe in my heart. Good points have been made. I have been thinking about this for a couple of and it has started to bother me as I was starting to go in a direction that I don't really believe in. I understand that the law makers may be trying to make us safer and in doing so are taking rights away from perfectly good law abiding citizens. I won't be joining the NRA but will stand with those that shoot for fun.
  2. Fantastic! That is an outstanding beauty! The fish that is. Well you too. Well I don't mean in that way......I mean...well, "What??".... "Yes honey, I'll be right there!" I have to go now!
  3. Using the word hip was a poor choice on my part. I should have said something like concerned. My fault. Be sure to read this.http://thehill.com/leading-the-news/reid-joins-pelosi-in-opposing-weapons-ban-revival-2009-02-26.html I think you and some others here will find it very interesting. Just incase you are dial up as I am, I have taken the libery to C&P here for you also. Reid joins Pelosi in opposing ban revival By J. Taylor Rushing Posted: 02/26/09 10:17 PM [ET] Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) will join House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) in opposing any effort to revive the 1994 assault-weapons ban, putting them on the opposite side of the Obama administration. Reid spokesman Jim Manley said the Nevada Democrat will preserve his traditional pro-gun rights voting record. "Sen. Reid would oppose an effort [to] reinstate the ban if the Senate were to vote on it in the future," Manley told The Hill in an e-mail late Thursday night. It was not immediately clear whether Reid would block the bill from the Senate, but his opposition casts serious doubt on its chances. Also, Manley noted that Reid voted against the ban in 1994 and again when it expired in 2004. Reid's stance joins him with Pelosi, who told reporters Thursday that the administration had not checked with her before Attorney General Eric Holder told reporters the administration would attempt to reinstate the ban. Pelosi gave a flat “no” when asked if she had spoken to Holder or any other administration officials about the issue. “On that score, I think we need to enforce the laws we have right now,” Pelosi said at her weekly news conference. “I think it's clear the Bush administration didn’t do that.” Outside of the dig at the recent Republican president, that phrase is the stock line of those who don’t want to pass new gun control laws, such as the National Rifle Association (NRA). Holder said during a press conference Wednesday in Phoenix that Obama had made reinstating the ban one of his campaign promises. "There are obviously a number of things that are — that have been taking up a substantial amount of his time, and so I’m not sure exactly what the sequencing will be," Holder said. "It is something, however, that we still think would be an appropriate thing to do." The news caught Capitol Hill by surprise, immediately pitting Democrats and Republicans against each other and even exposing deep divides among Democrats. A number of House Democrats lost their seats after being targeted by the NRA for voting for the 1994 ban. Mike Soraghan contributed to this article.
  4. Buzz and I took a trip on Indian today and did it ever turn out to be a beautiful day. We had a thunderstorm roll through this moring with very high winds, some gusting to 60mph according to the news. We decided to brave it anyway. We hit the water about 9:30. It was really slow for us today. We did manage to get one here and there. I think I ended up with 9 or 10 brownies and Buzz had about as many. The Goggle-eye were really turned on today though. We hit one hole, that I bet if we were still there at this moment, would still be producing. We fished it for at least a half an hour and either caught a fish or had a bite. It was amazing. We got to talking about how much fun it would have been on a flyrod. All of them were really nice and fat. We didn't catch any big fish today but we did see two that didn't look to have any problem tipping the scale at 3lb. We saw a few more that would hit the 1.5 to 2lb mark. The water was so clear we were on or going over them before we could even think about it. None of them were hanging where you thought they would be. We finally had to call it a day and pass up the last almost mile of water today. We hated to do that but, we really had to get going. Here are some pics. If anyone has a bout of Spring Fever, don't look!
  5. I think you are right on! I want to set the record straight with you on something. I think you got the idea, from a post of mine, that I am against bait fishing for trout. I am not totally against it. I am not opposed to it being used in Zone 1 at RR. Or other trout parks. Now I am against it in other areas or trout streams. But I say knock yourself out in Z1. On the flip side, I don't think fly rods should be used in Z1 at RR. Boy, I know I am going to get beat up on this, but it is what I believe. Buzz and I have had many discussions on this and we just have to agree to disagree. But we understand and respect each others point of view. Even though, he is wrong.
  6. Thanks JJ. I want to clarify that I am not anti gun. I am not against any traditional revolver, rifle or shotgun. I am not to hip though on assault type weapons and ballistics that were designed for killing humans instead of game.
  7. Where would one start? Most of the current administration were the same bunch that caused problems under Clinton? This was YOUR team. Glen Beck is a whacko. I am not sure, but this may be the first thing we agree on. Your bit about Rush is, well in my opinion, way off track. Much like he is. What a ding dong! As far as the Police not being able to protect us, they are essentially a traffic control and crime investigation unit. They do not protect us from the everyday assault, rapes, murder, car jacking, and other violent crimes. Are we supposed to have our own personal police man assigned to us? If we could police ourselves, we wouldn't need them. I am not knocking you on this one so much as I am society. Lucky for us, we have a means of protecting ourselves now with the CCW laws that were enacted during the Blunt Admin. We have plenty of other laws that keep up safe too. You know I can still carry a rifle or shotgun, loaded, in a gun rack, in the back window of my pickup. I can keep a pistol, on the seat of my truck, ready to go if need be. I may be wrong but, as long as I have the gun in the open, I am legal. I don't really need the CCW. Now if I feel the need to carry the gun under my coat into Wal-Mart, that may be different. Uh, well, I am not sure you can do that either. I am not as up to date with the CCW law as you are, where all can you carry a loaded weapon? It is not a panic. This is exactly what is in my opinion, Chicken Little is crying and some are buying. Now for the reason of the mass gun sales and ammo sales, people are concerned and are buying now before that right is taken away again. Again? When did we loose the right and when did we get it back? What part of the country do you live in that is so bad that you have to produce ID to buy gas? Uh well, I know of few, very few stations you don't either swipe you card at the pump or you don't pre pay. Ya know I didn't even bring up the purchase of alcohol or tobacco. Don't hear any crying about that either. Maybe I will now though.
  8. "Just one question oneshot...whens the pig roast??...yum yum" That is exactly what I was thinking!!!
  9. I personally, as a law abiding citizen, don't have problem with that. That would seem to make it a little harder for gang members and felons to buy ammo. It has been years since I bought gas without showing ID, or if you will, proof that I could pay for it before I pumped it. I don't hear anyone crying about that!
  10. I want to thank each and everyone of you that responded. Including BRBF. This really turned out great. Without naming names, one of the committee that was to vote on this stepped out and did not vote. If he had, it would have killed this bill. At this step, one ney vote would have killed this bill. He was kind enough to do this so it would pass this step and continue to the house for debate and the final vote. Funny but, this cat was democrat from, well, I won't say, but, thanks a million!! I have to say that I was WOW impressed in the way they treated Dylan. I goes without words how proud I am of both sides and of Dylan in this process. We checked today and it has made the AP and papers as far as Idaho and fishing forum in S. Dakota. It was on the radio and TV in the Jeff City-Columbia area. You think peacock's strut? You should see me!!!!!!!
  11. OK OK. Maybe he didn't mean it that way. I know that is how the old saying goes but, it wasn't that Dylan didn't know what he was doing. Had somebody else pointed me in that direction though, the results would have been the same. It just went all over me. I have had a chill pill now. Anyway, we are heading to Jeff City Wed. afternoon. Dylan is up to bat at 9am. BTW Saturday in Columbia, I think, there is gonna be a Wood Duck discussion. If anyone wants more detail let me know. I think I may attend before I head home. I don't know who all it going to be there speaking,b ut I know of one MDC Research Scientist that will be speaking.
  12. What the hell kind of comment is that fishinwrench? It is not being passed into law because Dylan's teacher just happens to be the son of a State Rep. It is because it is a great idea! Dylan picked the Missouri River because: 1 It was the same name as the state. 2 It was the gateway river leading exploration to the west starting with Lewis and Clark 3 It connects Missouri's two largest cities. KC and St. L. 4 It is a great river that will represent the state proudly. This is what he told me and wrote in his proposal. These are his words. The words of a 10 year old. Not because Dylan knew somebody. And this is what you have to say about? I resent that comment soundly!!!
  13. I understand this may not be the correct forum for this bit of news but, I wanted it near the top for all of you to see. I wasn't ever going to say anything about this but, I am pretty pumped and wanted to share the news with all you here. I have told Buzz and family members and now I am going to share it with everyone! First just a little background. About a year ago my son Dylan came to me and stated that Missouri does not have a state waterway. He said, we have state birds, trees, fish, frogs, crawdads and such but no state waterway. I thought "Wow, we don't!" So we kind of half heartedly looked for information on how to submit something to have one designated. We couldn't find anything we could do. This year, Dylan's teacher just happens to be the son of State Rep. Kevin Wilson. And if you will remember back last summer when I got the hook in my hand and finally went to the hospital? Well Dylan's teacher happen to be there. We struck up some small talk and then the next thing I know Dylan mentions his idea for a state waterway and his teacher in on the phone to his father, Kevin Wilson. Things start snowballing big time. In October of '08, State Rep Kevin Wilson comes to our town to have lunch with Dylan and hear personally of his idea a how he came up with it. He then states to us that he will sponsor the bill and see what happens. He didn't think there would be any problem getting co-sponsors and getting it passed through. He was rather dumbfounded that nobody had thought of it before since we have just about a state everything! Today I just got the news that Dylan will be headed for Jeff City this week to testify in front of the committee about the state waterway. He is the only one on the docket for the day Thursday of this week. I am not sure what all he will be saying but some of it will be on how he came up with the idea why he picked the Missouri River. Some time in June he will make another trip to Jeff City to witness the Gov. sign it into law on the banks of the Missouri River in view of the capitol. I don't know if you can find it online but it will be House Bill NO. 807 Thanks for reading this. I am freaking pumped!!!!!
  14. Tell ya what. The next time you get them boys down by the creek at night. let me know and I'll rent me a big foot outfit and scare the hell out of them! OH MAN! You are gonna have to video it though. It will be a 100k winner on AFV!
  15. Thanks guy's! G-Rod - looks Buzz and I need to hook up with guy's and do a little fishing! Looks like a lot of fun!!! Though from the looks of it, we may want to make it a catfishing trip. It may be a little safer! You just tell me when to get the hole baited up!!!!
  16. This brute came from Hickory Creek a couple of years ago.
  17. Well, he has been doing this for the last few years. Nothing yet. If they are retired, why not come forward? Plus we have "Whistle Blower Law" now. Anybody can come forward with damning evidence. I wonder why they don't? LD certainly has nothing to loose. Bring it out. Stop the hiding behind the word game and tell us what you have Larry. It was said that the MDC reads this board. Maybe. I am sure there are some that do. But do they work in Jeff City? I can't say but, I have my doubts. Are they supposed to read every forum that has to do with the outdoors in Missouri? Then you would start crying that your tax money is being wasted on reading and responding to forums. This would be a no win situation for them. I wouldn't find these accusations worthy of a response anyway. Not unless more substantial evidence was produced. Just as is claimed the MDC reads this forum, I would venture to say Larry does too. Why doesn't he respond? Nobody seems to care that he is not protecting his reputation here. Why not? Some seem to take a very vague at best bit of information and run and yell "The MDC is coming! The MDC is coming!"
  18. All I have proved, once again, is that you don't know what you are yaking about. To borrow a term from you, it would appear that "you don't have a clue". You still didn't answer the question about the tools you claim to have witnessed being stolen??? Now don't get your feathers all fluffed up. I am sure the MDC was created just to screw the residents of this great state plus any out of staters that haplessly cross the border to take part of the wonderful outdoor recreation created by the MDC. It was all just an evil plot!!!
  19. http://www.mdc.mo.gov/about/sale/brookfield.htm Here you can look at the next auction. Where is all the nearly new equipment? I wouldn't consider anything over 5 years old nearly new. But that is my opinion.
  20. I was speaking more of the claims that new tools were being stolen by MDC empoylees and possibly volunteers. I would like to know how you know where those tools went? Why you didn't alert law enforcment to theft of gov. property? I have many times looked at there auction items online. By the descrips, sounds pretty used to me. I don't have a habit of buying vehicles that are not very old with very high mileage.
  21. You have some pretty stark accusations. Do you have information to back these claims?
  22. I have read is column for many years. I should say I HAD read is column for many years. He always would stick an MDC bashing in a couple of times a year but, it would just take a paragraph or two. And I was fine with that. I didn't and still don't agree with him, but if he doesn't help to sell papers, he can't sell his column. One must remember that his dream was to be an employee of the MDC. For whatever reason, he was never hired. So this is how he deals with it. I get this info from 30+ year employee's with the MDC, and not on the local level. Like Al, I love his books. They should be required reading in school. I have thumbed through his magazine a few times but, never found it worth the cover price. Like I said, he has to sell papers to sell his column and what better way to do that. Just like he is doing with a lot of smoke but no sign of fire. Do I think there is a fire? Sure there are some hot spots but, there is no raging inferno like he would like you to believe. But as it appears, some are militant followers without common sense reasoning. Just remember, he has made and continues to make a good living off of the back of the MDC and what they have provided him and each and everyone of us.
  23. That is great!!!
  24. Woooops! You did say you let her go! Great job.
  25. Great fish! I take if from your post she is still swimming? I thought though that it was L X G X G divided by 800? If that is correct, then your fish could be 7.2 lbs.!!!!!
