  1. ....the vintage Ozark Fishing Filme Institution. And that is the wind blowing us upstream against the current.
  2. Yeah. You 3 took turns catching it today.
  3. That is also a very valid point Wayne. And it is a thorn in the MDC's side. There is just not a lot they can do about it. And the Judges are not only screwing the resource, but they are really screwing the kids of the local school district.
  4. I am not nor will I ever advocate for any non harvest options. But I do see the slot on rivers as a win win for those that like to eat a few and those that enjoy catching a larger fish as well as a win for the resource with selective harvest.
  5. I guess we can go back to the times before the MDC and see how things turn out. I for one am glad they had the foresight to protect the outdoors for those in the future. That being me and you. #1. I didn't ask for new gigging laws. I asked for a policy on enforment. Yep their baby. Why have laws if they are not effectivly enforced? #2-4, Have you been hanging out with JoeD? Or you can picture that it will be a picture that you have to show them cause you won't be able to catch them. As you get more and more people, you get more and more use of the resource. Changes need to be or we can just all go down the local aquairum and zoo to enjoy what once was. Seen any free roaming bison lately? Oh just a little.
  6. Actually, I favor a slot on rivers. Make the slot 14-18 except for spots. Limit 4 with one over 18. Or it could be 17 on the top end. Its a well known fact the best tasting fish are the smaller ones. We can also lower the length on the bottom end to 10.
  7. Love them! Put that sucker on a leash in the front yard. Get yourself a lawn chair, a cooler of beer and park there with the pig. Put up a sign that says "Petting Zoo $1". Keep a shoe box close by to put all the cash! Now, peep this...if, and this is what you really want to happen, but if those little snot nosed bastards ain't got a dollar, have them get a plug out of dads tackle box as payment. Encourage them to visit often.
  8. 1. An enforcment policy on illegal gigging. 2. A reduced creel on all river bass. With exceptions. 3. An increased length limit on all river bass. With exceptions. 4 . A closed from harvest season on river bass from Nov. 1 to May 31. That is a good start.
  9. I am glad you actuall took the time to read it and analyze the results Al. Now of course as you pointed out, some info seems to be missing but this is just a summary and not the full report. This gives us a great idea of what is going on, on our waters. I think this is some very valuable information that we can use to develope our direction for the future of MSA. I spoke on the phone with Mitch last week and discussed some direction I think would serve the MSA well in cooperation with the MDC. Lets get some dialogue going off line and set the path we need to get the desired results. We can and will accomplish greater results with team work and dedication than we will with excuses, finger pointing, and dissension of the MDC and other organizations.
  10. Round them up and work the birthday circuit.
  11. or the bee restoration. or the mule relocation.
  12. I supported it. A lot of members of this forum supported too.
  13. Aww, Scottie knows I won't make him eat them. Not without carmel anyway. Heck everybody love carmel road apples. Don't they?? I ain't the only one am I??
  14. Nope. I belive the survey came out in 2010? 2011?? I think it was 2010. I didn't get the invite until 2012. And yeah there were qutie a few on here saying they got one.
  15. True, some were pregnant. So that should drop it to 15k then. Who were the special intrest that wanted them?? Maybe we can talk to them and see how they got it done. We should be able to use the same tactics for getting a no-harvest on brownies in the rivers.
  16. It was stated either on this forum or in the MSA newsletter that every member would participate in the survey. And when I find it, you will be eating horseshit. And it is far from some random survey. But no one expects you to understand. I do like to how you and your group always attacks the MDC though. If your club tried a different approach, you might get more done than a once a month fishing trip. Just an observation.
  17. That 21.9 seems a little low to me. If you are keeping 3 fish out of 10, that is 30%. Be that as it may, the number should be 0.0. I think I would shy away from the springs too. Well, that is if you believe the science. Hope Dodd, of NPS, and MDC’s Mike Siepker, conducted a fish telemetry study at Big Spring along the Current River to document the use of springs by smallmouth bass and the timing of their movement into and out of springs. Their group tagged and tracked 30 fish for a year, documenting the temperature and habitat used by smallmouth bass within the river and the spring. Dodd said the telemetry study data will help biologists understand the timing of movement and use of springs and river habitats by smallmouth bass, a fish species whose distribution and abundance in the Ozarks has declined due partly to increased water temperatures over the years. “Combining the temperature data with the SMB telemetry work, we can assess the importance of springs in regulating water temperatures in the river and determine the importance of springs as refuges for fishes that require cooler temperatures,” Dodd said. Findings from all three studies are extensive. From the temperature data, the group found that each spring has a relatively constant temperature throughout the year, but not all springs have the same average temperature. From the telemetry study, they found that timing of movement from Big Spring into the river was influenced by temperature. Smallmouth bass inhabited the warmer water of Big Spring in late winter, and moved into the river once river temperatures warmed to similar temperatures of the spring. By late fall, when river temperatures cooled below that of Big Spring, fish began returning with five of 12 fish returning to Big Spring by the end of the study, Dodd said. So only 12 out of 30 used the spring. And the next winter, only 5 of the 12 used Big Spring. And did anyone catch the other very telling information that pointed to one aspect of smallmouth decline??
  18. I have just about had it with all of your common sense stuff! Your reality based thought process is really getting in the way of some fabulous dribble! We have some here that are trying to turn this into a MDC bashing board. And you sir are getting in the way! Please let them develope those fantastic conspiracy theories and spread as fact like FOX Newz! Thank you and good day.
  19. Nice try JD. No calves were imported so there is no $30 loss. Do we know that the kitty killed the elk?? I see buzzards all the time standing next to a carcass. Never seen one kill something though.
  20. Who says they have to target smallmouth exclusively?? Don't you fish for smallmouth and trout and largemouth??
  21. Truer words are rarely spoken. They both have hampered my lifestyle.
  22. Nothing says a good time quite like multiple felonies with your best friend.
  23. So how did you pack all of the survival gear?
  24. I see no reason for the MDC to misrepresent the information they accumulated. I don't know what purpose it would serve.
