Decided to hit the lake out of Ruark again even after the cold front. Found the fish still shallow. Caught 14 keeper whites, 10 largemouth with just two keepers. No eyes this time which was very dissapointing. Fished from 11-5. Water temp was 62-64 degrees.
  2. I have been catching several very shallow lately. Saturday we had 3 right at 15in one at 18.5 in and some short fish on rattletraps and shallow cranks in less than 4 feet.
  3. Put in at Ruark Bluff and fished the Sons Creek arm from noon til 6. Caught 10 large white bass, 5 short eyes, 30 short bass, 2 keeper bass including one right at 5 lbs and lost another in the same class at the boat. Throwing a rattletrap in 3 ft or less water. My water temp was 66 most of the afternoon. Very fun day for me!!
  4. Ham, my father was and is the same way with a full size devils horse. Though I grew up in Louisiana and fishing is a bit different down there. I didn't know there was another topwater bait until I moved off to college Of course, I still keep a few in my possession for just the right application.
  5. I was on the flats at Mutton a few weeks ago with 3 people in my boat. We caught over 75. They were schooling all over the flats. Very exciting!! Granted that's the first time this year I have found them.
  6. Very nice! I have had success with the eyes there also.
  7. I set out some noodles the other night on Stockton. Didnt catch many fish but had two channels about 6.5lbs and a few smaller ones. When I cleaned one of the bigger fish, it stunk like fish that had gone bad. I kept everything on ice and none of the other fish smelled bad. I didnt cut out its belly meat as that area looked very discolored compared to the other big one whos belly meat was fine. Just wondering if any of you catfishermen have ran into that?
  8. Been on this site for a long time and have always enjoyed it and the folks on it. Thanks

    Catfish

Went to Truman today. Havent been there in a couple years. Tried bottom bouncing and trolling for walleye nothing but drum after drum. So caught a few shad and tried drifting for catfish. Caught about 20. Mostly blues only two channels. They ranged from 1 lb to 8.5lb. Caught most on flats near KK island in 10-25fow.
  11. Knew some people who use to grind the meat to help take care of the small bones. Then made gar balls or patties out of them. I have tried them before after someone else had prepared them and they were pretty good. Granted I am from Louisiana and they eat everything down there :-)

    Whites?

    Anybody catching whites schooling?
  13. I went a little over a week ago with a buddy. We caught 8 bass between 12-16 inches and a few green eared sunfish. We caught the bass on frogs, buzz bait and square bills.
  14. Griz, We did that in Canada a few years ago with northerns. it was pretty tasty!
  15. I second F & F. Catch the occasional one bottom bouncing or trolling. Not bad. But don't freeze them.
  16. Has anyone started catching big bluegills on a regular basis this year?
  17. Good point that its not just bass fisherman, crappie fishermen or walleye fisherman its inconsiderate fishermen!
  18. My fishing partner and I have caught several over the past 15 years. Most have come trolling for walleye but we have caught some in the spring in the KC area throwing jerkbaits. The others were in the Baxter area. All have been 2-4lb rainbows.
  19. I put in at Mutton Creek Sunday and we kept 20 big crappie (a mix of males and females) and two eyes (16 & 18in ) and also caught and released a ton of small whites, short walleyes and short crappie. All trolling small cranks. water depth varied from 18ft to 40 ft. We were running the cranks at right around 18-20 ft.
  20. Is someone else running the marina since last summer? I fished that lake a couple to three times a week last summer. Never had a problem one with marina staff. They were always friendly and helpful. I have not been back since the first of the year though.
  21. Nice pic stickbait :-)
  22. There are several places on the bank to fish around Fellows Lake. The park on the north side had plenty of access and the east end of the north arm has a dock. The marina there in the park rents boats of several types also.
  23. Fished yesterday for a couple hours. No luck on the walleye but hit the crappie pretty good. Caught 19 keepers and 2 whites. We fished swimmin minnows in 15-18 fow. Lots of fun!!
  24. Been a couple times but only been able to pick up a single walleye each time and some whites. I have mainly been fishing for eyes but ran into some schooling whites that I couldnt pass up.
