  1. Trolling cranks is how I caught the walleye. Just on the flats no points.
  2. Caught them anywhere from 15 to 20 ft. But most were around 15ft.
  3. I went Monday and caught 18 walleyes only three keepers though. Saw white bass schooling pretty good late evening.

ryan, I was out on the main lake near Mutton Monday and did not see any. I was watching for them.
  5. Went yesterday evening from 5 til dark and only caught 5 bass with 2 keepers but also caught 1 medium white bass and two huge bluegills on spinnerbaits.
  6. Nice fish!! Since the fish die off several years ago I have been seeing more kentuckies and smallmouth in the lake.
  7. I went this evening from 4 til 10pm. Caught 8 bass (smallmouths, kentuckies and largemouth) They were all 14 to 15 inches. Caught them all on spinnerbaits in the brush in 3 to 10 FOW. I caught two of them after dark in these same areas.
  8. Yea, I get wrapped up fishing out of my bass boat and forget how fun just fishing out of my 14 ft jon boat can be. You can use all the murky water baits in that lake, spinner baits, texas rigged black worms, topwaters of all kinds and crankbaits. It seems to me you can catch fish on any of these methods just about anytime there. Oh, and my favorite is the plastic frog!!
  9. Had only a couple hours this morning so I tried Lake Springfield. I caught 6 bass, 2 under the slot, 2 in the slot about 14 in and two over the slot 17 inches. All on Spinnerbaits. I forgot how fun that lake can be as i haven't been there in a while.
  10. Wished I had paid attention earlier last night and I would have had an eye out for you RPS. I was in the area this morning and notice several big pods of baitfish less than 30ft. even a little early morning schooling. I think the bass were small though. No walleye luck for me today but did catch several bass on dropshot.
  11. the one spot we caught our short walleye from had several large balls of shad in about 25-30ft. Didn't see any other big groups of big shad. The bass we caught were puking up small shad though.
  12. RPS, I was up your way yesterday. I caught about 10 bass on dropshot and then went trolling. Caught one 17in walleye about 33ft on reefrunner and one 14in crappie on shad rap.
  13. Dutch, I was out Friday morning out of Mutton Creek on the flats. I didn't see any organized schooling and it was pretty flat that morning. I was out there two weeks ago and found them about three coves down toward the dam from Mutton Creek. They were very difficult to catch even though they were busting the top pretty good. Finally caught them on a clear tiny torpedo and when you swing them in they were puking little 1 inch shad. My 12 yr old daughter also caught a 6lb 1 oz largemouth that day on the flats while we were trolling. We took pics and released it. Friday there was a lot of junk still floating around the flats.
  14. A buddy and I went out of Baxter yesterday evening. It was pretty nice, very cloudy medium wind and not to hot. We tried drop shotting for a while and caught 9 short fish in about 22 FOW. Not great but, this is my first success with this technique. It gives me confidence to use it again. Also caught a few fish on spinnerbaits in less than 10FOW.
  15. Actually Bill, I have never tried to drop shot. I have not figured how to tune my Eagle 480 in yet. It is hit and miss on being able to see the bait when I have used spoons in the past. I know I have to give it a try as my fishing partner as good success on a regular basis doing it.
  16. I grew up in Louisiana and we had a ton of Pickerel. We called them jackfish or jacks. Caught them on just about anything from spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, redfins, to live bait. Since then I have caught several northerns on my few trips to canada and I think the jackfish are just as vicious as the northerns are. Also, when we caught jackfish that we wanted to eat, we would take off all the scales and fillet each side off leaving the skin on the fillet. Then we would score the meat so the small bones would melt in the grease when it was cooked. Then just fry it like any other fish.
  17. I went out of Big M this morning in the fog. Caught 6 largemouth on spooks only two keepers. Also caught one white bass about 2 lbs. Seemed everything quit when the fog burned off. Most of the fish I caught were on bluff ends about 30-40fow.
  18. If the draw down is not over , can you launch at Rockaway beach ramp?
  19. Trolled around today for a while in several places on the lake. Caught around 30 crappie and 1 walleye. Only 15 keepers though. Oh and a drum too. They were about 20-23ft deep over about 30-35 ft. Trolling small cranks.
  20. That was a great story!! I easily see that happening. Had a friend in a church tourney a couple years ago get a crankbait in the back of the neck so deep he had to go to the emergency room to get it removed. AT least you had a great day of fishing to offset the mishap.
  21. Yeah Dutch, We stayed in the old state park cove most of the time this morning. It was even rough in there. Out on the main lake it looked downright life threatening
  22. We tried for a little while this morning between the rain and wind. Only caught 8 crappie and 1 short walleye. Thanks for the info.
  23. Whodat, Are you trolling with your outboard or trolling motor? Thanks
  24. I also enjoyed fishing this tourney. i believe this is the 7th year my partner and I have fished it. It's good to know the money raised goes to a worthy cause. Oh, and I enjoy the door prizes to for us poor fisherman that can't seem to eek out a limit on tourney day
  25. Was fishing the rock today and caught a smallmouth about 12 inches long. If you looked down on it from the top of its back it looked like its backbone was s shaped twice. i have never seen one so misshapen. Anyone know why they turn out like this?
