  1. My son and I are heading to Truman Friday afternoon looking for some whites and hybrids. I have never fished there before and could use any suggestions on location and baits. Probably do some trolling also. Thanks H91
  2. We've seen the same thing this summer. We chased them early last month all one morning and caught 8. Like you said they never stayed up for more than 10-20 seconds. Last year we caught them around Masters and they stayed up for nearly an hour at a time.
  3. My son and I went to Stockton around the two bridges and trolled crankbaits all morning. We only caught 5 white bass but they were excellent size about 15 inches. We were hoping to find some schooling but didn't see any all morning. They were about 18-20 ft deep in 30ft of water.
  4. I have had excellent luck at Fellows, mostly in the spring from Feb to May. I always head to the grass beds and fish crappie jigs just above the grass or through some of the lighter grass. It seems to be hit and miss most times for me but I had several excellent trips this year with some crappie to 15 inches and some nice bass up to 3lbs. No walleye this year but I did catch a few last year in same areas as the crappie.
  5. A partner of mine did some diving under his dock last year with some scuba equipment and was shocked at the fish he saw. Big crappie, smallmouth to estimated 4lbs, kentuckies. We have fished off his dock many times and seldom catch any good fish besides large bluegill.
  6. We have done well at times bass fishing on Taneycomo. Mostly using topwaters(poprs or buzzbaits) early in the morning or late evening or spinnerbaits when its cloudy or the water gets murky. Good luck.
  7. My partner and I caught 5 last summer at different times while we were fishing for walleyes. The smallest one was over 3 pounds. All rainbows. Very healthy fish.
  8. My partner had two batteries stolen out of his Champion in the Joe bald area in the last two years. Funny thing was that they stole only one battery out of three in the back of his boat. The second time they had to break his lock but again only stole one battery. Now he has some deterents on his dock but seldom leaves his boat down on it now.
  9. We didn't see any whites surfacing. We were looking for any surface activity. Did catch our bass on topwaters and the crappie on dropoffs into the channel.
  10. My boy and I went today out of Kdock. We trolled some and caught a few small walleyes no keepers and cast swimming minnows some and caught some nice crappie and a few bass on top of that. My boy also caught two 3ft long gar.
  11. Martin, You give all of us walleye fisherman wannabees hope Congrats again!! H91
  12. On the bluegill we use a split shot about 12inches above the hook and just vertical fish or "tightline" and feel the bite. Tons of fun and I love those bluegill fillets also.
  13. About the start of June or after the fish are done spawning, we fish out off gravel points in about 30ft of water with crickets. We catch a lot of 7-10 inch bluegill. I don't think they get much pressure on the lake.
  14. I have been catching a lot of fish with raw spots on their sides or in their mouths or parts of lips missing. I have been fishing around the Kimberling area and just assumed these were tournament caught fish that had been released in the past couple weeks. They all fought well and seemed healthy except for whatever wound they had.
  15. Went out of Baxter yesterday and there was about a 10x10 ft section of dock floating out in the main channel. Don't know what happened to it. Also saw a lot of small limbs and debris but nothing else large and hazardous around that area.
  16. I too do a little trolling for walleyes and whites during hot summer time on the Rock. I have found it very strange that almost every trip we pick up a few crappie probably 13+ inches on crankbaits usually running about 20 ft deep in 60+ feet of open water. I guess they are suspended out there. Just my thought.
  17. My son and I fished the Indian Point area and also caught some nice rock bass on grubs and french fry worms. some of those fish were over a pound! Where do these goggle eye and rock bass go after the spawn? I fish for bluegill during the summer off points in deep water and catch some real nice ones but never catch any rock bass or goggle eye. Any ideas?
  18. Thanks for the information, Sam. I have been wondering about that for some time now as I have caught a bunch with that stripe last year and this year. H91
  19. We also went out of Cape Fair today. Caught 15 keepers, the best being a 15 inch 2lb crappie. Caught them all between 2-10 feet on jigs. Also caught 1-5 lb channel Cat on the crappie jig in the same spot the 15inch crappie came from. Not sure if anyone has covered this before but the largest crappie of the day and a few others had a black stripe from the top of the mouth to the tail. Someone mentioned that these were hybrid crappie. Has anyone heard of that before? H91
  20. My 14 yr old and I fished up the James today and just before dark got into the Kentucky bass schooling shad on the surface. We caught and released 50+ bass in an hour all on topwaters. No big ones. All under 15 inches but a ton of fun!!
  21. We do some trolling for walleye that time of year on the Rock. We never have tried down near Indian Point. Mostly up river (White or James). These guys are right about only catching one or two a day being a good day. Also pick up just about every other species in the lake including some very large white bass. I would agree that around Indian Point that time of year smallmouth are the way to go for some possibly awesome fishing. Caught a bunch in that area at that time last year. Good Luck!!
  22. I was fishing Beaver creek area down to about 2-3 miles past K dock. I heard you can fish all the way to the Barker hole without any real trouble.
  23. We caught some on grey and some on purple and silver. Pretty much tried a little of everything. we were using 1/8th oz heads because it was windy.
  24. Caught about 20 crappie today on the James around Bridgeport. Tons of people there. Only 7 keepers. Caught them on Swimming Minnows in 6-10ft of water. Anyone else been catching any?
  25. I fished Friday and Saturday for walleye out of Beaver creek. Had very little luck with only a couple of short walleye on jig and minnows. I did however catch a fair amount of largemouth and kentuckies throwing a clown colored pointer on gravel banks. Largest bass was about 19 inches. Also caught two crappie on the pointer that were 12 and 14 inches on the same banks. fish generally hit about 8 to 10 ft deep.
