Has anyone been up to the dam fishing lately? I'm thinking about coming down and giving it a try. Should I try the jigs or stick with the eggs and scuds? Is the water warm enough to move the bass and crappie up river? Just looking for some fishing to do on my three days off coming up. Any info would be nice. Bittle

I have a buddy fishing a small derby this week. With the high water, can anybody point him in the right direction to find some fish. He is pre-fishing friday and is kinda overwhelmed with where to start. I told him spinnerbaits in the backs of coves. Anybody else have any ideas, or anybody been since the rain? Bittle

List Of Sale Items For Backcountry Outfitters Re-grand Opening
Bittle replied to Micheal Kyle's topic in Fishing Events
Is this sale going to be going on all weekend or just on friday. I'm coming into town with some birthday money and I am looking for some new waders and wading boots. However I won't be in town until saturday. -
Nakato's is hands down the best Japanese style restaurant I've been too. I love Japanese food and have tried several in the springfield and st louis areas. Nakato's prepare the food in front of you. They are on Glenstone right by the mall.

I am a police officer in the st louis area and have friends that work there. Both officers were great people and well respected. What a tragedy. Please tell an officer thanks next time you see one. Because these both left families behind for parking tickets. A routine day is never routine in this line of work. God be with their families. I won't even start on the shooter. Only one word for guys like that. Coward.

I'm looking for a good wading jacket. But I need some imput. I see lots of the shell rain jackets. But for the most part, the nice rain jackets that will also keep you warm are rediculously priced. I'm looking for a good rain proof jacket to wade with that will also keep me warm in winter. I was looking at the simms freestone jackets but not sure. Any thoughts?

I spoke with a crappie guide on Truman Lake that uses bamboo. He creates a small bamboo structure and then sinks them. He told me he uses bamboo for several reasons. One, it lasts a lot longer than wood will submerged in water. Two there are no limbs to get your lures hung on. Pretty cool i thought.

My brother, a co-worker and myself hit the darn on the 27th around 5. Catching a few crappie here and there. When the light started to fall the whites came in and we started catching a few. Moved down and met with Slider and his crew who were doing pretty good. We started catching primarily crappie then and a couple catfish. One weighed about 15lbs. Not a bad fight on 6lb floro. We left about 130am. I had 20 fish total my buddy Brian had about 7-8 and my brother had 2. There is an asterik next that my brothers since he fell early on the rocks and hurt his back pretty good. The next morning we woke up and went back to the darn around 9am. Started catching crappie decently. We ended up leaving around 2pm. I had 9 crappie and Brian had 7. My brother left early due to the back so he didn't fish much. Caught all of mine on a black and pink crappie slider in the two inch variety. even the catfish came on the sliders. Brian hooked a catfish bigger than mine but it ended up breaking his 4lb test. Brian did land one walleye but it was around 12 inches i guess. Good Trip with plenty of filets for the freezer. We ended up with 47 fish total. I will try to attach a photo but it probably won't work right. Good meeting you slider hopefully we can meet up and do it again sometime.

Hello all, This morning I was trolling around the Shell Knob area looking for whatever I could get to bite. Was dragging a plug about 23ft deep when I thought I hung the titanic. After about a 4 min fight I pulled this one in. I'm guessing it is a smallmouth but man it was big. Take a Look What do you think it weighed I didn't have a scale. Just Kidding again. Thats twice I got you guys. This is a new state record smallmough caught in the California Delta. At this point in their season I bet everyone is a little testy and short tempered. But for him not to play Pujols at all was rediculous. I know your playing for home field advantage in the world series but that game is for the fans and they voted to put Albert there so he could play. I hope this doesn't hurt their relationship and drive Albert to another team when his contract expires.

Yeah my blue cards hat is a little faded and dirty. We didn't do great. We did see a guy catch some crappie during the day. Not many though, probably 2. Only 1 keeper. Hope you have better luck next time. Keep us updated on your trips. Bittle

Well I just got back from Truman. It wasn't a complete washout but it could have been better. The first night we got there, Thursday, there was a bunch of people there. We tried the throw net for shad but caught nothing bigger than an inch or two. And you could find them by the droves. Picked up some frozen shad at the station and headed to the east side of the river and throw some bait. We started about dark and fished until about 230am. Total tally on night one was: 1 drum. We saw plenty of people with fish not too many reeling them in but plenty of good fish. Saw one guy with 2 nice walleye and a legal crappie. Biggest cat was about 35 pounds. We threw everything from plastic lures to roostertails to swimming minnows. No luck on anything. Day 2 we woke up about 10am and decided to try and find the mid day bite as one gentleman said he was doing well in the heat of the day. About 45 min after the first bait in the water I caught a nice 20lb channel. Nothing else. Saw a few crappie being caught under a jig and float but nothing notable. All Short. One thing that was unbelieveable is the amount of small shad and minnows in the water. They are up in the area in the millions. hard for a crappie to choose your bait over live stuff. Good Luck

Slider, Me and my brother will be up there on Thursday evening some time. We will probably fish till early morning. Ill be wearing a blue cards hat and he drives a white chevy pickup. Come over and say hi, between the 3 of us surely we can figure out how to catch a few. Bittle

Me and my brother are gonna make a trip on Thursday to fish the tailwater below truman dam. The questions I have are. Is there a good place to get minnows right now? Where is the best place to catch shad with a throw net to cut up? We are planning on setting up a tent, I was there years ago and we fished on bledsoe ferry side of the lake. I seem to remember a campground somewhere just right there. If anybody can help me let me know. We are going for cats, crappie and whites......or whatever else bites. Would be great to have some help here.

Had some buddies in town this weekend and they wanted to fish. We tried to hit the James River arm of Table Rock for anything that would bite. It was tough, I caught one spot on a spinnerbait and we had one bluegill on a grub. No Crappie, No Whites. We began setting out trotlines to see what we could find. Put them out on Thursday morning and pulled them sunday evening. Had 8 or 9 total. all but one was male channels. the other was a flathead. They all ranged from 6 to 9 pounds. Caught one crappie on the trotline as well. I wasn't too optimistic with the cold front coming through but was glad to pull a few in. Most people fishing were stirring up the water. Good Luck. Bittle

Keeping Hooks from Rusting
Bittle replied to Bittle's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Thanks, Thats the brand that I was looking for. Thanks for the imput! -
I saw an add for these moisture wafers that will help keep your hooks from rusting in your tacklebox. I was wondering if anyone uses them and if they help. Any other suggestions to help keep hooks from rusting would be appreciated. Thanks, Bittle
