Hey Sam, IMO you would do a little better if you would get a few more lines in the water, lol...hope you're using umbrellas on most of them. Do you give boat rides?...trade you a 'walk your butt off for miles' on the Current for a strenous boat ride that from the looks of that water would beat my old butt to death, lol. Looks like you're the man on those stripers...nice fish. later on

For Those Who Don't Bait Fish Or Flyfish.

Besides water depth and choice of lures it's kinda learn the only and best way you can...start trollin. You can bank on donating some tackle, if you don't you're not doin something right. Spoon type lures hang up easily, most deep running cranks run nose down enouph they bounce across lots of snags. One thing I always make sure of is having my drag set kinda loose and working good...I check my drag frequently no matter what kind of fishin I'm doin. Pretty much a trail and error way of fishin. If you're running a big motor you may need a kicker if your's doesn't idle down pretty slow...or have one heck of a trolling motor and battery. I know I've donated my fair share of tackle over the years...fishin used to be a sport even a poor man could enjoy, all considered not so much these days. Trolling real slow with ballons and live shad looks like a blast to me and I've seen guys tear em up. later on -
Didn't want to hijack another thread but that thread reminded me of something. I have always tried to show courtesy and common sense on the water. Some just don't think about it or just don't care...in most cases I hope it's just not thinking. We were trolling on a flat about 4 or 5 acres give or take in water from the bank to 15 ft. deep. Just trolling around slowly picking up a few whatever until dusk hoping for the shad to explode, you know what that means, It was pretty far up the Pomme arm of the lake and if you don't have a map of the old river channel or are with somone that does or knows it a guy probably has no business being up that far...that lake has eaten many a lower unit Guys that do run the channel up there use this particular flat to cut across and get back in the channel if they know it well.. We were just relaxed, kicked back trolling around in large circles playin that waitin game...only boat on the flat. We heard this boat coming and he came cutting across the flat we were on. It was a big high power bass boat and he was letting er rip...bet he was running 60 anyway. He got so close to us when he went by us his boat snagged both our lines...he didn't even look our way but by the time we got our rods out of the holders he had almost spooled us just before our lines snapped and our rods almost broke. We came close to losing our rod and reels...we both just couldn't turn him, lol...not really funny, at the moment we were giving him some choice words. Unless his ears were burnin he never knew what he did...I mean it's not like Taney, Truman is plenty wide almost anywhere. I guess I'm saying give other fisherman a little room if possible...plus I've got insomnia and gettin tired of talkin to myself, lol. Highway, waterway, whatever...look out for the other guy...don't recall if he was on the phone or not, it was all just a blur, lol. later on

Thanks laker, Kinda the same applies behind Truman Dam. Takes some balls but have had buddies have stuff get stolen from their truck beds while their in the cab sleepin. darn thieves and locks just keep the honest people out. later on

I've caught alot of my bigger browns by from what I've heard they call "Teasing Steelhead" out on the west coast. Guess it would be called "Teasing Brownies" around here...think most of the time the fish do better at teasing me than I do them, lol. later on -

Jus-t a tip...works pretty well for me. On the suspended rouges, cut the hook off the treble that points downward...I still hang em up but does seem to help...I aint rich and it hurts a little to lose a $5 dollar plug. later on -
Thanks Brian...that sucks though, guess they expect a guy to pay to even catch a couple o winks. Oh well...whatever, maybe I could prop myself up with a stick beside the water, ya think, lol. later on

That's encouraging laker...I like it. I've got a shimano bait caster that I have taken the brakes out of and a couple of heavy duty rods that even if you don't catch anything it's fun to throw, can't hardely see the spoon hit the water, my old eyes can't anyway. Pat, you be up for something of that nature?...I know there's big brownies down there but here I know exactly where they are and not near the water to have to try to cover, quite a bit more hikin though...you're exactly right about the change of scenery although that scenery behind that big cement bluff don't compare to the real McCoy. thanks for the info guys oh yeah, can a guy catch a couple of zzzzzzzzzzs in his truck if need be in the parking lot there?
-
If I came down there and stood up close to the line as far as I could get and uesd my heavy surf tacke and threw some spoons half way across that lake and ripped em back in would all the local fly fisherman bad mouth me and run me off...especially if I nailed a couple of biguns cause I have the strange feeling it would produce some nice fish if they were running a decent amount of water. I'd do my best to stay clear of the mobs right around the outlets...just never have tried it and wouldn't mind givin it a try. The dam releasing a decent amout of water would be a must.. I just can't get the distance with a big rapala like I can a spoon, 1 to 3 oz. Honest opinions please...the last thing I'm lookin for is an arguement from anyone, ya know. later on

Maybe Ringo did spray her...just not quite a strong enouph dose. Might have warped her so bad that's why it all ended up the way it did, lol. Surely money didn't come into the picture... after all she was related to a beetle family and enjoys sinking those teeth into things, ya know. later on

Was an old manual 35 mm Canon with a promaster 52 mm UV zoom / macro lens. I aint no expert by any means, the lens also has 200 on it so I'm not sure, it may be a 200 but it doesn't say mm behind it and it does the 52...for some reason what little memory I have left tells me it's a 200 but I'm not sure to be honest. Whatever the case, I doubt if it's one a guy would even consider these days unless your over 50...not that I'm anywhere near that old, lol. I now have a middle of the line digital camera and I just can't seem to get the same quality shots. All this digital age has just kinda passed my old butt by. I used to love to go out in the woods and set up a tripod and get those macro shots of little stuff with the shutter release plunger thing ?? for perfectly still shots. Those pics are several years old...I'm older than dirt and that camera wasn't far behind my old butt, lol. Glad a few of you enjoyed them...thanks later on

I feel a task force commin on, lol. OK, there has to be a 'Symbolic Meaning' about the Japanese Beetles....or could there be a hybrid ? Appears there's lots of work to get done! I got a few towels I'll pitch in...I don't think anyone that wears em on their head should be allowed in on this one though and no, I aint predjudice...just leary, lol. later on darn Al...more illegal aliens, what next...us superior humans...ah, never mind..

Trout Coming To Busch Soon

It's sad but I'm afraid it's coming to the point where game/fish reserves will be all that's left, hell, water that will support life may be rare. IMO I don't care what they say or put in print bottom line is little effort has ever been actually put out to help small game populations anywhere in the state unless it's a pet project by a big wig or commisioner. Trout, deer and turkey are the top 3...don't think if some of those efforts and tax dollars had been put towards saving some of the above mentioned the populations would be better. Long as it can be viewed in a nature center does it really matter if there are any left in the wild ? If it's stuffed you can get alot better look at it also, even touch it, lol...and what you talkin helpin smallies, they sustain themselves just fine, right...why else wouldn't they help ? later on -
Good job oneshot, High as meat is anymore it's nice to put some hormone free meat away. If you're like my buddy that has tried to eat crow, literally, I hope to hell you make stew outta the feet and ears, lol. bm

Maybe I'm a freak, well, no maybe about it, lol...but I have taken all the hooks off of a 5 1/4 inch rapala, ground the bill off and put a single barbed hooked on the rear of it and slung that thing. I don't know much about fly fishing at all but I do know I was able to cast that thing so I would think you experienced guys could do something to that affect. I pride myself in my unorthidox methods. The first time I fished the tailwaters of the North Fork years ago those guys down there thought I was a bloomin idiot...that may be but they didn't have much to say when they saw the size fish I was catching...they were my buddies all of a sudden. We just learned to take our plugs off before we pulled into the boat ramps, docks, whatever. They always thought we were bass fishin...we just let em think it but it's kinda hard to hide a 8,10 lb. brownie. later on

IMO this just shows how the MDC caters to the urban areas, the vote. With the exception of the white ribbon areas which are not stocked during winter months and the blue and red ribbon areas where you're lucky to catch a keeper these days the rural folks don't have any place to catch and keep a mess of stinkers. To boot, when the water warms enouph in the spring the remaining fish that haven't been caught belly up. Ask most rural folk what they think of this program but the dept. doesn't seem to care because they know where the majority of the voters are. St. Louis alone will trump the whole rural population. Pretty much shows the trend to me but what do I know, I'm just a simple country boy. bm -
Is this a private joke or am I missin sumpin ?? bm

Alright damnit, You're my only enemy, lol. You just wait till I put one of those pig browns on your line for ya...it'll be karma when my cigg.'accidentaly' burns your line helping you land em...if Karma even lets you get him that close, lmao. Anyway...you got it comin for callin me a douche bag, lol. bm

Lots of those big browns in Taney and trout in the parks are a bunch of gut eaters...would probably rather have fresh stuff but when they get fat and lazy I reckon guts will do. Crow?...there's more than one way to eat crow...probably have eaten my fair share over the years...I'm sure a few times I wasn't even hungry, lol. bm

Wasn't hunting but...to make a long story short some punk kid, 10 or so, stole my fillet knife outta my back yard, denied it till I found my knife in their yard, still denied it...sleazy mom backed him up...whatever I was pissed. Had an old ford pu parked on a lot across the street with permission that I didn't drive often. A couple of weeks had passed since the knife incedent...went to jump in my old truck to do something...every stinkin tire was flat including my spare in the bed. Got an air tank, aired em all up and guess what...bunch of tiny little holes punched in the sidewalls of all of em, had to have tubes put in them all plus the hassle of messing with it all. Called on these fine people one more time...uh, we don't know nuthin about that...I thought I was literally gonna explode before I got outta there. Pretty bad when you get your own tires ruined by your own stolen knife...not hunting but I can relate. bm
