  1. They looked like Striped Shiners to me, which is a weird name because they aren't striped. They get fairly big and I've caught them on my fly rod in the James. http://www.darbycreeks.org/striped%20shiner.jpg
  2. The lampreys here have some really cool life stages they burrow in the stream bed for up two four years feeding on detritus and other matter moving from fine sand to coarser material as they get larger.
  3. AHHH now I remember hearing about a trout farm there was it up stream or closer to Verona?
  4. We usually always shock up some small bows in the Spring River just outside of Aurora. Usually 3 - 5 inches. I don't think there are any trout farms near there or is there?
  5. Beckman told me about the fish kill on Friday and said other rivers have been affected to. He just speculated low DO and warm water.
  6. Might try going out tonight if it doesn't rain. Are they still hitting raps? Thanks
  7. Gonna mess around Sunday looking for some new spots to fish and wondering if anybody on this board did any fishing on this river? Thanks
  8. I was fishing the mouth of Swan creek this evening. Only caught 1 little rainbow throwing raps. Nobody on the other side of the lake was catching anything. Most of them were using minnows w/ floats.
  9. Where were you fishing, right under the dam in the hole or downstream in the channel?
  10. Went there today between 12:00 and 4:00 and didn't catch squat. Another guy caught about 6 crappie but I didn't want to jump over to where he was and steal his spot. I was using a jig and minnow had two little hits right at the start then nothing. Sunny clear day not a cloud in the sky.
  11. Most fish will look different depending on where they are living, depending on what they are eating, cover and light conditions. Its crazy sometimes looking at fish that look nothing like each other but they are the same species. But they actually might be different species as Goggle-eyes in streams are usually Rock Bass Amploplites sp. but they are hardly found in lakes but you might find a Warmouth Lepomis gulosus in lakes which is also called a goggle-eye in these parts.
  12. I have had this happen at least twice up north catching Yellow Perch and a northern comes up and eats the perch. My Dad can't even recall how many times it has happened to him.
  13. Thanks for the info gonna try to hit if Friday
  14. Do you have to have a boat to fish this area or can you wade fish it?
  15. I'm gonna try to go down there tomorrow night any tips on what I can expect and what to use. Gonna try some floating raps any color preference?
  16. Thats exactly how I was catching them very, very slow twitches.
  17. Gonna try to go again next Sunday. Does that work for you?
  18. A guy from work brought them in about a month or two ago and I just now got around to putting them on my signature. Those have to be the funniest sayings I have heard in a long time. Well I did see some cars come in about that time but you didn't park by the outlet 2 did you? I thought the cars just came down to see what was going on and then left
  19. Just got back from Taney. Had a BLAST!! Throwing a #5 Gold Rapala. Caught around 10 fish in an hour and a half. Biggest one was around 18-20 inches, big fat rainbow. Gets a little spooky being the only person down there. Can't wait to get down there again.
  20. If you are talking grabbing it starts Mar 15
  21. Heres a little snippet from James F. Keefe about biodiversity Lake Taneycomo (in Taney County, Missouri) was drastically altered when Table Rock dam was built, because water entering Taneycomo from the bottom of Table Rock Lake was too cold to support the fish species that had lived in Lake Taneycomo. The Missouri Department of Conservation created a trout fishery where a warm-water fishery once existed to offset the lost species, but there was a considerable loss in bio-diversity in the lake. The Department of Conservation introduced a freshwater "shrimp" called gammarus into the lake to provide food for the trout, a tiny addition to the lake's bio-diversity. But populations of gammarus have declined as the area has developed and the result has been smaller trout for the angler. It is not yet known why the gammarus have declined, but there is little doubt that some changes in the lake have affected their population and those changes must have resulted from man's activities in the watershed. This was from 92
  22. To me it's an ethical question not a environmental question. Taney is a man made ecosystem. Even the some of the scuds are not native. Just walking doen the "river" kicks up "bugs" which the trout have "learned" is an easy meal. I don't think there should be a change to the law there is no way MDC is gonna pay somebody to give tickets to people that "shuffle" It's amazing to see how you guys are so bent out of shape on this subject. Education can prevent this type of behavior and the enforcement of good morals not going at if from the angle that if you do it you will be punished. I don't do it and I think it is a weak way to fish but I don't see the need to make it illegal.
  23. No Change
  24. Thanks for the help. I'll be asleep at that time but I'm gonna try to get down there around 6 and fish till 10 or 11
  25. What color works best for the Browns at night. If its not too terrible I want to head down Sat night. Silver, Copper, Rainbow trout color, Thanks for the help
