  1. They were mailed from the Navajo Dam post office last Wed. I hope you have received them by now. I needed to make the mecca to San Juan because I felt that it was a necessary step on the road to being a real troutbum. Average fish there is bigger than avg I catch at Taney. Catch you next trip...Don
  2. Fished San Juan for about three days last week. I didn't catch alot of fish, usually about 6 per day, but those guys were healthy. They indeed have small heads with big shoulders and will let you know it on the end of your line. You can't wrap your hands all the way around an 18" fish. San Juan worms, small midges, scuds, wooly buggers, and leeches all caught fish. Scenery was awesome. We stayed at Abe's, great Mexican food. I will probably go again someday. Don
  3. I finished tying mine at Abe's Motel and mailed mine last Thursday. Don
  4. Same here Kickn, Sup is good at home but the Pads starter wins alot on the road. So far I've been impressed with the formerly vulnerable bullpen, especially Tyler Johnson's and Adam Wainright's finishes the last two games. I hope it builds their confidence. Don
  5. This one would have definately been up on OzarkSportsTalk.Com if it were running. Anyway, there were not alot of expectations of the Cards since they hobbled themselves into the playoffs. The have pitching now? Don
  6. I'm staying at Abe's and I'll be asking. Report will follow the trip. Thanks a million Phil. Don
  7. I'm finally taking my first fly fishing trip away from Missouri/Arkansas waters. I'll arrive at the San Juan on Monday 10/09/06. I know several of you have fished it before and any advice whatsoever would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.....Don
  8. Each time I was there, I stopped at Reeds Cabin Shop, just before entering the park. The gentleman there in the cowboy hat used to be the hatchery manager at Montauk for many years. I've also seen him working at the lodge shop. Interesting information from him about raising trout and a really nice guy. Then, of course is the lodge, for flies, supplies, etc. But, as you say, there is no full-fledged fly shop in the area. It would make a nice niche opportunity for anyone who has aspirations to own a fly shop someday. Don
  9. Excellent Picture.
  10. Wken I was having a challenging day on Sunday afternoon, I scooped up some rock and gravel to help match the hatch. The scuds I saw were small, about size 20. My friend did the same and he said maybe about size 18? The color of the scuds were dark gray on top with tan/ginger legs. Anyhow, the factor I noticed the most was the strong stagnant smell. I realize there's a stink to the bottom but it seemed much stronger than usual. Table rock is sewer runoff from the ever growing Springfield area and other surrounding cities and counties. I realize pollutants settle to lake bottom of a lake over time, or as repeadedly mentioned, it's just the drought factor. Is it just me or is the sowbug doomed on Taney as it is on White and Norfork? Don
  11. I was also at the dam yesterday from noon until 4. Was a tough day indeed. I managed to only bring five fish to the net. I used many scuds, zebras, san juans, sculpins, and egg patterns. My friend caught just as many. There just were not alot of rods bending down yesterday. Don
  12. Brian, I talked to a guy last night who fished the Pere Marquette last week. He said the bite was hot for the kings and his group caught many fish. He alone caught 16 kings over 36 inches. I'm not sure what he was using. Don
  13. Thanks Stickrz, I realize that I'm the lonesome wolf as usual. Don Ho, From The islands,
  14. I wouldn't be so smart to fly a kite in those storms that hit northern Arkansas last week. Big Bad Ben would have hung right in there. The wuss.....Don
  15. I flyfish many places and realized that another on my list I never fished is Beaver tailwater. Possible opportunity to go soon. I don't use a boat, I only wade. Any advice on where and what's working lately since the hopper report? Thanks.....Don
  16. My nearest neighbor 1/4 mile down the road thought they had a mole problem and was upset with their lawn service and treatment. We live in the country between Republic and Clever MO. Their manicured lawn slowly became totally destroyed. After observation, the realized armadillos were the culprits. They attacked their lawn while other neighbors in the area did not have the same problem. It was explained to me by my wise mother that it was because they constantly watered their lawn while others did not and the armadillos liked rooting the softer soil. They borrowed my 12 gauge and killed two of them 2 weeks ago. They celebrated with victory. I drove from their home to mine the same night and saw two of them cross the road in different spots. I told them it's not over yet. I can't stand those skanky things. Don
  17. John, I got your yarn today and I surely appreciate it. I plan to do some tying this week and should soon be ready to disco. Thanks.....Don
  18. Wayne, After reading your reply, I now understand why posting sports in General Discussion as I recommended would not be as effective. Thanks.....Don
  19. For several years, until construction for the landing moved in, I would take several trips to Branson City Park and catch alot of suckers from the little fishing docks. I made several trips with my children, if we found a nice day in the winter. We fished with nightcrawlers and the kids caught some nice sized fish. I remember scoring them, deep frying them, and with a little tartar sauce, I would eat them like a candy bar while I watched the Super Bowl. I haven't been back down there since construction started but I assume those little fishing docks are gone by now. Does anybody know where there any other public docks are on Taney where I can catch suckers? Thanks.....Don
  20. Sorry, I totally misunderstood you GF. By the way Bennett was a good bite this evening . Too bad you couldn't make it. I'd like to fish with you guys someday, as well as Sports Illustrated swimsuit models . Don
  21. I met NoLuck at Bennett 09/24/06. We got acquainted and discussed gear and tackle. Apparently he has fished Bennett many times, whereas it was my first flyfishing trip there. He stated he would start with a crackleback. I stated I wanted to try an ugly zebra midge since it has produced well for me at Roaring River as well as Montauk. After inventory, I realized I could not find any in my arsenal, so we had a quick fly tying session and I spun up a couple. NoLuck stated he fishes Zone 2 with success so I followed his cue. I fished deeper water around the bluff area while Rich fished upstream in shallower water. Four hours of fishing yielded exactly 20 fish with most of them caught off of a variety of zebra midges. Most of them had green in them, some with copper. After my white indicator was nailed for the umpteenth time , I threw dries. I'm not very experienced with dries so after approximately one hour I caught one with a small renegade. I threw a size 10 renegade for awhile but no takers. I tied the son of a gun after reading a previous post and man it was one ugly renegade. The bite got cold between 6:30 and 7:05 until I tied on a sculpin olive leech and picked up a couple more until I broke off and the horn sounded. Rich also had a successful afternoon and caught 20-25 fish in the shallow water between the falls and the bluffs, mostly with cracklebacks and a few with midges. Rich, it was a pleasure to meet you and I had a great time. Thanks for your tips and everything else. Post back to let us know how you did on Monday. Thanks again.....Don
  22. KingTuckey, Have you ever cought or do you know anyone who has caught a muskie on Fellows? I hear several people catch them in the spring when they are fishing for largemouth with spinnerbaits. Don
  23. I think sports such as baseball, football, etc could be posted on General Discussion. I've been waiting to go on and on about my St Louis Cardinals and my Kansas City Chiefs. On the other hand, I do not believe politics should be discussed on OAF. It would build resentment among OAF members. Don
  24. Hey guys, I'm interested in going. I've never flyfished Bennett before. Where are you guys going to be and what do I look for when I show in the afternoon? I will be driving a gray Dodge Caravan minivan. I wear a camo hat with a fishpond vest and i have a green flyrod. Thanks.....Don
  25. Alot of tornado warnings tonight. I'm in Christian County MO just southwest of Springfield and I've been viewing a heck of a light show south of here. I was hit by a tornado in March and I take this stuff much more seriously these days. Please pay attention to warnings. I hope nobody got caught out fishing in the middle of the stuff and I hope everyone is safe and did not suffer too terrible damage. In my prayers.....Don
