Yesterday I logged onto allsouthernrock.com and listened to all southern rock internet radio. Pretty good stuff. Don

That would be Hank Sr of course. I have the Steppenwolf version of "I'm Movin On" on my next mix. It was written by another Hank, Hank Snow. Another band that ws not mentioned is one I saw in concert some odd years ago, Missouri. I picked up their Best Of CD a few weeks ago. Thanks for the input everybody. Don

I'm supposed to fish Hawker Point memorial weekend with friends. I've never fished there. I hear they like crappie. Any pointers? Thanks, Don

I heve mixed a few southern rock CD's lately. I do not listen to music when I fish but I don't mind blasting it out on my way there and back. Real southern rock is a dead breed. There were on;y a handfull of southern bands and they primarily existed in the 1970's. They are so underrated by the yankee media. Lynyrd Skynyrd blew all british bands away in The Knobwurst concert yrears ago. Here's two playlists I've enjoyed lately. Not all of them are actually southern on the first one. The second is purely southern. More to come soon. A coworker moved here from Florida after several years there. He stated he expected a bunch of Skynyrd clones there but all it was is hip-hop. Bummer. Here's what I listen to on my way fishing. Thanks a million for the link Troutfearme, That's the main reason I logged on tonite - to search for Montauk/Current flow. A childhood fishing buddy and I plan to hit it Sunday. I proposed the current below the cable. However, since he is primarily a park fisherman and has never hit the fly area at Montauk, I believe we'll hit both areas wading, water flow permitting of course. Thanks, Don

I'll tell you what I did. I wanted a beginners rig for nymphing and dry flies. I went to a large sporting goods retailer in Springfield and bought a 9' 6 wt and a large arbor reel. Cought many fish my first time but the reel drag locked up tight on the first trip. I had to use hand drag method. Afterwards, I spoke to an experience flyfisherman of 20 years plus. He stated he had an expensive Orvis 8' 4wt and a Temple Fork 8' 4wt and he used the TF much more. I returned my merchandise for a refund and purchased the TF ($90). I then needed a good beginner reel with a good drag system. I picked up a Ross Cimmaron for a discount price. I have since accumulated several other rigs, but have caught the snot out of trout off the aforementioned rig. I still use it frequently. If you want to toss heavy flies and streamers, I suggest a slightly larger rig depending on the size of flies you plan to use. Good Luck, Don

I joined friends at JFK Saturday afternoon in the rain. Gennies were on so no fishing that day. We grilled brats and watched Trout Bum Diaries 1 and 2 on the side of the tent that night. Awesome video. Terry's kettle corn popped in the dutch oven complimented things as well. Water was off all day Sunday because of downstream flooding. I brought 26 to the net fishing the park during the rain all day long.. Six were browns and the rest were some pretty bows. Half were caught off of tan sowbugs and the other half were from red zebras and wine zebras with copper beads and wire. Nothing there of real size. My friend caught 20 on tan beadhead sowbugs. I had the pleasure of meeting Maddog Mike Davis at the fly shop. After a short visit I could tell this guy really knows this river and has treaded some noteworthy rivers across this country. Water was still off Monday morning. I only picked up one at the park and fishing was slow. My friend said he caught 6 before I arrived and one was an 18" brown. We decided on Swinging Bridge for an hour or so. Fishing was tough there because the water was up and swift and had a good stain to it. 4 of us picked up 4 fish so we left. I talked to a guy on my way out and he said he picked up a dozen at the bridge by swinging a small olive wooly bugger. I hope I make it down again this year. Mike, I'll give you a fair warning when I do. Don

Based on a true story....when you are casting to the bank and a jet ski rips up lake between you and the bank, they are fair game at that point.

How about Montana Kyle? It doesn't really matter what formal name you give your child, they will tailor it to meet their needs. For example, my folks named me Judy Matthias Martholamew Wayne Wagner Donald May and I turned out just fine

Congratulations, Great news! Don Just in case y'all haven't picked out any names yet, Wapsi, Rebar, and Wooly Bugger are probably still available.

A friend had permission to stay at a bed and breakfast for a meet and greet situation as he served as a liason for a charity organization. He was allowed one guest so he invited me. We arrived and nobody was there, so we dropped off our gear and went flyfishing in the meantime. After a couple of hours I ended up breaking my flyrod and said to my friend I was going back. He said he was going as well but he crossed the river in a rough place and ended up going for a swim. We walked back to our hosts and presented a nice first impression with one guy with his broken flyrod and the other dripping wet. Nice to meet y'all:). Don

Smallmouth Fly - Upper Illinois
Don replied to remi74's topic in Upper and Lower Illinois River (OK)
I met Ward Bean at the Conclave a couple of years ago and he turned me on to his website. I regret that I do not flyfish warm water very much but I found his patterns to be interesting. http://www.warmwaterflytyer.com/welcome.asp Don -
...so we loaded up the truck and we moved to Beverly.......Hills, that is, swimmin' pools, movie stars. By the way, I'm up for adoption. Don
