    Big Fatty

A friend brought smoked fatty sausage slices for our Christmas breakfast at work last year. He got raves. I can't wait to try the stuffed rolled tenderloin. Thanks, Don

I've used cheddar before but the cream cheese is better. I burned a few myself. The trick is to use indirect heat. Push the coals to one side of the grill and put the meat on the other side. You can also use a roasting pan with a grill on the bottom of it to help buffer the heat. The coals don't have to be extremely hot, I cook my fatties at 275 deg. these days. Be patient and temp will be good after three hours or so. Good Luck , Don
  4. Those who know me know that I fish alot. To date, I haven't been in exactly two months. You know; job, kids, chores, floods, etc. I'm going nuts after this long drought. Well, the van is loaded for a camp trip. I'll hit somewhere on Stockton tomorrow afternoon after my daughter's soccer game. I don't know where and I really don't care, just as long as I get to go. I'll be conducting the maiden voyage of my new pontoon drift boat and I will be flyfishing for white bass for the first time. Wish me luck folks and the feeling is likewise for others who get to go. I hope to follow up with a good report. Don May
  5. Born 07/04/05? I feel weird viewing a toddler's profile.

  6. Just remember...no matter where you go, there you are.

  7. I want to watch you fish till you puke. Just don't puke on me.

    Let's go fishing.

  9. Phil, I guess I'm confused. Post 6 says 5 gates are open. Post 7 says the other 5 gates will open later. Where are the "other" 5 gates located? Were the other 5 gates ever opened? Thanks.....Don
  10. When you talk about the other 5 gates, are you talking about flood gates at the newer flood control dam? If so, were they ever opened? Thanks, Don
  11. I wasn't going to mention them myself but since the cat's out of the bag, happy birthday fellers. Don

    Brackets

I missed two yesterday and have already missed three more today. I have UCLA over NC in the championship with Texas and Georgetown also in the final four. Don
  13. Even though it was never mentioned, I assume your'e talkin spoonbill. 60 some odd is a good fish. Reminds me of ny old spoon days where the Finley meets the James in MO. My biggest was about 50 lb estimate. We used to arrive approx 3 AM and build a fire. We'd cook frog legs wrapped in bacon and throw them on the coals wrapped in foil. It made a good mornin' breakfast while all the other snaggers arrived. Ahh the good ole days.... Don May
  14. That's funny Snow, Too bad you didn't hunt her down and hold out your hand and asked if this this suff was the real you . I'm thinkin' Beason would have . Don
  15. Thanks for the feedback guys, I'll stick with the UTC rusty. I just happened to have 140 in the box and have not purchased any 70. This thread is just for a few wraps for the collar. The thread body of these particular flies is made from UNI-Stretch in Light Olive. Now that stuff really stretches out flat for a midge thread body. As for those who don't have it, it's almost yellow, but it results in the desired shade of green once coated with Sally Hansons. I coat many of my zebra midges with the stuff as long as I do not mind the shade of color change that results from the application. Yeah Terry, I know the look on the cashiers face when you buy Sally Hansens. It looks just like the look on the lady's face at the Republic Wal Marts when I asked her where the big grannie panties were so I could by them for a Christmas party gag gift. I hope she believed me Don May

Of course anything tastes better on the river. If I had to eat one of my wading boots it would taste great if it was on the river, A friend of mine blasted eggs and whatever.. cooked sausage, cooked bacon, eggs, cheddar cheese, onions, peppers, stewed tomatoes, mushrooms, etc; basically anything you can try to put in an omieette. He egged all the ingredients in a dutch oven over a morning camp fire and called thit a shipwreck. Go for it man. Don May
  20. Yeah Memphian, Somethin' about you Memphis boys with a hankerin' for flyfishin'. It seems like everyone I've met on rivers from Memphis were all way too cool and congenial, from the White to the San Juan. Don May
  21. It was probably the next world record waiting for you to stick something in it's jaw. Don May
  22. I use large Jalapenos. I fill mine with cream cheese and wrap each one with a whole slice of bacon. I like to pepper the bacon before wrapping. I bake at 350 deg approx 45 min. then finish off by broiling a couple of minutes until the bacon is as crispy as you want it. I never tried adding sausage. I'll have to add that on my next batch. 23. I treid the search option on this topic because I somewhat remember discusssion on the same topic long ago. Funny thing was that it gave me every topic Rusty has ever posted or replied to . Here's what's happening. I'm tying the ugly midge and the greenie meanie with olive and chartreuse bead heads instead of the black ones that I usually use. I refer to rusty brown thread as the collar. Traditionally I have used UTC 140 waxed rusty brown for my rusty midges and collared for my ugly midges. However, I found UNI thread rusty brown in my thread supply that looks more like burnt orange. Any preferences between the two out there? Thanks.....Don May
  24. Happy birthday to Wayne and Dave. When my Bday rolls aroundeach year it makes me reflect on some good times from the last one. One of things I think about is all the good fishing trips I had and all the good times I spent with friends and family. I wish the same good memories for you guys as well. Happy Birthday.....Don May

I ate there many years ago outside on the deck on a pleasant evening as the sun went down. I guess it was pretty good since I remember to this day. Don May
