  1. Thanks a lot! That is exactly the stuff I'm sure a lot of us could use!
  2. Thanks for the answer Dutch, and since I have no idea where Rolley Blunks is, it strengthens my point about there needing to be more place names on those maps. I don't want to end up like on Gilligan's Island.
  3. In the interest of benefiting those of us with little time on the James, could someone add some more geographical reference points to the maps on this forum. I have been seeing a lot of names mentioned in the threads that aren't on the map. Also what would be the furthest up the James you'd be willing to take a bass boat? Link to the maps are found here: http://ozarkanglers.com/james_river/maps/ I appreciate the help in advance. Please edit the maps in Photoshop or something and post them on this thread so that everyone can see.
  4. You are right Al, that looks it alright.
  5. Common Name CHUBSUCKER, CREEK Scientific Name ERIMYZON OBLONGUS http://mdc4.mdc.mo.gov/applications/mofwis...aspx?id=0100039 looks like it to me
  6. Well we had the event this afternoon. As I had feared the weather kept people from showing up in droves. I was about to call it a total wash (pun intended) when a car pulled up to the Lake Springfield Boathouse and Marina. This person and her 2 year old daughter had driven all the way from Galena to take part in this so there was no way I could cancel it after that. After the rain stopped we had a chance to teach her how to cast the flyrod. The wind was pretty stiff but in spite of that she did remarkably well. In fact, well enough to win some prizes for her daughter. My son was the award giver and loved his role. Although we didn't have the number of employees show up needed, hopefully I have learned lessons on how to get people more commited to participate in events in the future. the little one learning how to flip the flyline Tammy and her daughter with her newly won White River flyfishing vest and rainbow trout pin and my son's big smile (he might have had a crush on her)
  7. I just looked on the MDC website and the state record white bass was 5 lbs 6 ozs caught on Table Rock in 2002. What a fish!
  8. Thanks for the response that makes me feel better, I'm in no hurry to buy. My dad grew up in Haysville, he was a Colt or a Mustang I believe. Once again thanks for the info.
  9. I know I speak for hundreds of us stuck at work when I say, "I'm officially jealous now." Great report and pics, maybe next year.
  10. I'm sure he was telling the truth. It had problems with leaking it the past, as in the the last time he had it in the water.
  11. I am bumping this event for more visibility. The date is fast approaching. I know that this event is concurrent with the White Bass event at BCO but I am hoping that we will have a good turnout weather permitting. I would still like to have some help if possible from any of you out there. I have two 8wt flyrods only for the people to learn with. Anybody who has an older backup rod that we could borrow for the event or better yet, bring it with you to the event and help out. For those of us who live in Springfield you can expect to see a lot more events to take part in to help support Branson TU in our area in the coming year. If you are an inactive member or a on-the-fence kind of person, please come and take part in these events. And by the way, I have enough hula hoops now. Buying a lot of hula hoops at Wal-Mart is a unique experience. I could have sworn I heard the Beach Boys playing.
  12. I have talked with people who have caught walleye below the dam there. It is not a common thing but folks have caught them.
  13. I will be getting in the market for a new vehicle. I have enjoyed my Ford Explorer but miss having a pickup. I was looking at getting a F-150 4X4 supercab used of course maybe a 2003-2005. Anybody have any experience with these?
  14. I'm curious how does the taste ofa striper compare to the taste of white bass?
  15. I don't see any reason why there can't be a chip that would interpret the signals bounced off of fish and based on the characteristics, tell you what kind of fish they were. It might only work if a fish is swimming straight and level, but it is still possible. Underwater biometry, some engineer could probably get a Dept of Homeland security grant to develop it, and then make a killing selling it to recreational and commercial fishermen.
  16. That is unreal! I took the family to that resort last spring and had a blast. There were a lot of really new buildings some they were still finishing out when we were there and they were not cheap with the incredible view they have (had). That is sad. No flood insurance in Baxter County???? Why not?
  17. I think it was closer to a 1/8th ounce jighead. I didn't get that good of a look at it since it was either in a fish's mouth or in the water most of the time. My father and I had on 1/8th ounce bell sinkers and were hitting bottom some of the time but not all. Pink and brown San Juan Worms and Y2K's were not the hot combo yesterday. I did miss a couple good takes on a red and white roe egg fly and a sage colored furbug, but the bottom bit that too well and lost it.
  18. I drove over the dam at Lake Springfield as a little detour on my way to work today. The water in the lake is up very high. By the warm water outlets the fishing pier is totally under water with just the tops of the handrails out of the water. Behind the dam the water looks like a class IV rapid. The water has submerged a third of the concrete outhouse so it must be around 15-20 foot up above normal. There will be "poop ship destroyers" heading downstream. (Ween reference)
  19. From the KY3 website: City Utilities of Springfield reports Lake Springfield reached record levels on Sept. 25, 1993, at 1,146.7 feet above sea level. On Tuesday at 4:15 p.m., the lake was at 1,146.6 feet above sea level. The lake likely will crest at about 1,148 feet.
  20. Howdy ho Joe!
  21. Just got back from Swan. I caught a few decent rainbows on a red and white PMS. Missed several more. Largest was 15-16 inches. About 4-ish a few white bass started to hit and one hit my fly so hard it took the tippet right out of the double surgeons knot I had used to join it to the leader. I talked Leonard into coming on over, and that was the kiss of death I guess the fish heard me tell him they were biting and they smartened up. Several boats did catch limits of whites, but even with spinning gear we couldn't reach where they were feeding. It was a beautiful day though and had a good time with Leonard anyway.
  22. The fellow (name escapes me right now) from Backcountry Outfitters said that MDC was going to be in Beaver shocking Fri and Sat night. If you see us come on over we'll be in a white Ford Explorer.
  23. I'll be down there tmw night. I'll let you know.
  24. I don't know who you are but have a good one.
  25. I can't find the link to buy tickets on John wilson's site. Is it my understanding we will be able to do this after this weekend?
