  3. I had a good 8-pointer come about 30 to 35 yards from my ground position this morning. The buck came up the hill after I set off a Buck Bomb. These things work! I was "still" hunting and first saw the gritter approach about 45 yards away. I was standing in the shadow of a wide tree. The shot was too far for my longbow. I feel more comfortable with a 20 yard or so shot. I tried to call him back with several grunts, but he just kept walking along. It was pretty windy. This was my fourth time out this season with traditional tackle. I hope to head out in the morning. It should be mighty cold.
  4. How about these main topics: Deer Turkey Small Game Waterfowl Upland birds
  5. I have a Okuma Sierra S8/9 reel for my switch rod and does great. I also just chase trout with it. I don't have the drag set to any degree.
  6. Do you all have any special tricks, products and such to help fight off ticks, chiggers and other biting bugs? My doctor suggested mixing Permectrin II, a dog and livestock formula, with water and spraying it on my hunting boots (not skin) to help with the early-season bug problem. He's a bow hunter and has tried it with success. The chiggers got me bad last year. Thanks!
  7. Good night! That's a pig!
  8. Thanks for posting the topic and information.
  9. That rainbow is a pig! Hey Leonard, do you sell your special flies, such as the PMS and pepper, at local shops or on-line? Thanks
  10. I second the Mexican restaurant on the Branson Landing. Very cool!
  11. That makes perfect sense. Thanks for the tip.
  12. Wrath, I'm new to spey roding. Why would folks at Taney dislike spey bums? I've been using a 11-ft switch rod a few weeks now down by the outlets and other places and haven't noticed any dirty looks or comments. The switch rod has really been working well for me with the high water and I believe would be just fine with lower and wadable water, too. Cheers
  13. Thanks for the information. It's getting that time of year again.
  14. I sure do miss wading Taneycomo and working the different spots. I hope the fall months will be a different story.
  15. It was a good story and your web site was great. G2rods.com
  16. I drove past the public area near the dairy farm this afternoon. The dark-colored water was high within the banks pretty much. The flooding has damaged many of the trees and brush.
  17. I found this on the codella.com site. 12921. heddon. 9'0". Model 17. Black Beauty. 3/2. #7/8. 5 oz. Medium/Fast. Tenite S/L. Black. Varnished. Heddon's revered Model 17 in totally original and complete condition. The rod appears original throughout with no short or repaired sections. Factory rated for a DT7 line, but casts a WF8 line even better. It could stand a coat of varnish to "dress it up", if you are real fussy, but it is sound, straight, and tight enough to fish "as is" without concern. The shaft lettering is original and perfectly preserved with the 2-1/2 ferrule size indicated in black ink. Comes with the original cloth bag and cloth spec label all intact and with the original Black finish aluminum case with foil label. Ready to fish with no work needed. Circa the late 1940's. VG. $425.00.
  18. I'm afraid Gavin is right about 9ft bamboo rod market. I have a similiar bamboo 9ft rod in a 7wt and I think it's great. The $500 +/- mark seems to be the starting point for a good casting vintage bamboo rod in the 8ft, 5wt range. Heddons have a pretty good following. I would check the market more. You can alway contact these two bamboo rod dealers to sell or just ask a question on what you may have: They have good reputations Heritage Sporting Collectibles Len Codella 2201 South Carnegie Drive Inverness, FL 34450 www.codella.com or Rods & Reels Bob Corsetti 17 Massasoit Road Nashua, NH 03063 603-886-0411 I've done business with Bob and he's above board and will be honest with you. He does NOT have a web page. Cheers
  19. Just a little FYI data for you blackpowder in-line or traditional hunters out there. Legal muzzleloading pistol for deer – single barrel muzzleloading pistols .45 caliber or larger, that have a barrel length of 10 inches or greater and can be loaded only through the front of the barrel with separate components. Only hard-cast solid lead, conical lead or saboted bullets weighing 210 grains or greater may be used with muzzleloading pistols. Range-finding devices and optical scopes or sights that project no visible light toward the target and do not electronically amplify visible or infrared light may be used in both the muzzleloader-only and regular firearms seasons. Muzzleloader - only permittees may not have a rimfire or centerfire firearm in possession while hunting deer. The muzzleloader-only season is restricted to using muzzleloading equipment only. Hunters with muzzleloader permits who do not fill their permits during the muzzleloader-only season are eligible to hunt, with muzzleloaders only , during the regular firearm season. Hunters with a firearms permit may use a muzzleloader or bow during firearm seasons only .

  21. How did you all catch a catfish on fly equipment? Great photo! Cheers
  22. Welcome aboard! Good to have you. It's really a great site and good folk.
  23. Phil, I have the Ozark Anglers.Com logo in the top left corner and the large color banner reads: "Downtown Rockaway Beach Every Saturaday this Summer: Farmers Market." Thanks
  24. Thanks Brian. I was wondering what a underhand cast looks like. Sould help with lakes and other such water. There's some really good spey stuff on that youtube segment.
