Yep....not so much since moving back to Missouri from San Antonio, But thats because of heath issues, but that will be changing, I remember once at Lilly's a coot swimming around with a Brown Trout over 30" following it! prob cause it was pooping, ether that or it was stalking it I also remember a guy blasting up to the dam and ripping a hole on rebar....or seeing a Brown longer than the miller high-life fishing sticker ruler on my buddies 23 food bass boat. remember catching Cuttbows in Taney, even remember back in the day driving on the strip after Silver dollar city closed for the season and not having any traffic. I remember when gravel was dredged out of the lake, or the old swimming area by old Branson.... winters & dog days of summer Taney was the fishing spot of choice...my biggest regret was not taking more pictures before changes happened always was something magical about the mist and fog of a morning on Taney, Wood ducks swimming past like victorian women hats with feet..mink hunting trout along the shorelines....looking up at a bluff or forested hillside with no sign of mans changes. I had to take several upper level english literature classes in my quest for a Biology degree, I was stuck with a poetry class because of availability...at the time I though how worthless is this? Yet of all the classes I had taken my mind wanders to a specific poem triggered by a life event. This pops in my head "Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after." Henry David Thoreau... soon it looks like many places to live that will be gone,

When pressed most people will admit the best battle with a fish was a carp. usually when they thought that it was the bass or trout of a lifetime! Most times I get to feel that fight every time I fish..... Most of us can tell stories of lost rods, yanked overboard by a carp...it is amazing how strong those 1st couple of runs are.... I was told once by a MDC person that they stocked carp on purpose in some urban lakes. Imagine THAT!
-
As you can see the Euro fishing thing is as sophisticated as you want to make it-- It offers challenges to even the most seasoned angler large carp are hard to catch... if you try it a few times you will quickly get addicted to the powerful runs carp are known for. Few fish can rival even a 10 pound common carp for line stripping run after line stripping run--you just can't imagine the fight of a fish of 20 pounds till you feel it! Eating smaller carp is an option, doing so may even help produce bigger carp,--letting those big fish go helps grow those true giants.... many times you will recatch the same big fish again & again over several years--usually a little bigger each time. One reason so much is taken in releasing the fish in top condition The current Texas State record was caught at least twice before its state busting weight, each time just a little bigger...

Remote control bait boat, complete with GPS, Sonar electronics and drop cameras! --chum is placed in the dropper hopper piloted out to place the chum bed even haul out your hook bait & drop it independent of the bait drops
-
spods tied to the line and cast out--the nose floats up and the bait falls out--better when you need to chum at distance
-
One of the backbones of euro style fishing--is chumming--since you do not have the luxury of moving around looking for feeding fish usually on a paid "peg" you rent like a campsite----chumming is used to bring fish in and keep them in the area feeding Here is a catapult what the English call a baiting slingshot
-
Fish after netting are usually placed on padded unhooking mats --for 3 reasons-- 1) to protect the fish 2) to calm the fish, they flip around less on a mat 3) many mats double as a weighing sling just loop the handle in the hook of the scale and subtract the weight of the mat-- many times big fish of all species are damaged putting the hook of the scale in a fishes gills there are several styles of mats.
-
With fish that can be 40" plus... a big net is a must..... light weight, these Euro nets can be used with 1 hand while playing your Personal Best on the line...--the net itself has no crossbar.... just two arms that are usually at least 40" long, fish slide over the bar-less lip of the net & then lifted vertically. as the net was not designed to lift fish horizontal like traditional nets, mesh is soft and knotless to protect fish that are released

Sometimes Chum is squeezed around a special sinker called a method feeder, Method tactics work well in our area
-
One of the best tricks is to use PVA ( poly vinyl alcohol)--they make webbing just for fishing-- -which harmlessly dissolves in water— Chum is put in pva and it is tossed out with your hook-bait to draw fish in and keep them feeding.

"Why can't I just toss a dough ball?" You can, even catch a few, but the big boys didn't get big by being dumb, this is a proven way to catch bigger fish. Fish can take the bait without feeling the hook---it also is less likely for the fish to be gut hooked with this set up. They do not detect the hook until the bait part is taken all in.... then as they feel the hook, the fish try’s to expel it and is stung by the hook--one of the reasons the hair is tied the way it is--to have the hook turn in as it is expelled, kinda like a true turn action... then the fish “bolts off” and hits the fixed lead, driving the hook home!!! It helps to use a weight of at least 3oz in this system. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz fish on!!!!!!! Usually, 10 pound plus commons can strip off big runs of 10-30+ yards. Reels need line capacity, 125 yards won't cut it sooner than later you will get spooled, and cheaper reels get shelled out.

Carp can get very wary and hard to fool, rigging called a hair rig/bolt rig allows fish to test the bait without feeling the hook
-
Rods are usually long from 9-13 feet powerful butt sections with soft tips to cast distance for playing big powerful fish without hooks pulling out. Euro Rods once hard to find in the USA can be had at online vendors that even a budget angler can afford
-
These reels employ a bait runner feature--basically a second drag, that allows line come off the reel under tension with the bail closed--baitrunner tension is adjustable, handy to compensate for current & windy conditions, it is engaged by a lever on the back, this disengages as you start reeling. Many Brands with this feature are available in the USA
-
Alarms are adjustable for sensitivity, beep tone, and loudness so you can tell which rod has a bite plus a light that comes on when takes are detected--the little light features are very handy at night

Euro-Carping has grown considerable since I started fishing this way in the early 2000s--Examples? in Austin, Texas they have a trophy Common Carp fishery where you are limited to only one fish over 33" and they encourage catch and release of the big fish, Guides have paying clients from all over the USA and Europe that pay to fish for commons and buffalo...lady bird, lake Austin and Famous Lake ForkQuick fact: Common carp were stocked on purpose begin when Ulysses S Grant was president, common carp were imported from Germany to raise by the federal fisheries agencies and distributed to states in the late 1870s. An overview of what is used to catch carp by euro anglers, it should be noted that these methods and tackle work on many species not just CarpThis is a rod pod where rods rest, with the line running through a Bite alarm that beeps when the line moves out or toward you.

Investigate? I haven't? riiiiiiight Not jet boats on Taney JET BOAT TOURS!...in fact thinking about my NEXT boat being a jet drive to fish lower reaches of the Spring & Neosho river.......and not all humans "mess up" wildlife/scenery just SOME of them via certain activities or the "I don't care...do what I want to do" attitude, I leave with more trash than I take to the lake... I complain about over exploiting via bow fishing shooting bighead, silver "carp" fine take all you can, turn them into cat food.....common carp and buffalo different story.....lots more people fish for those than you think....imagine your fav bass spot where you catch lunkers, then you show up one day to 100's of fish floating....or you know 100 people taking a dump under your deer stand It would be wrong to make those assumptions if you knew my racing history, its also hard for those reading this and threads like this to see someone with a hand full of posts that for all the world looks like they have a stake in a bar on the lake or drive a jet boat tour vs people with a long history in this areas outdoor community that wade in on these subjects. Yup, Share with people on how to catch more and bigger fish..and hopefully encourage them to catch photo and release the bigger fish so more catch say a 4pound + smallmouth...or 40 pound common carp...even 2 pound bluegills.... "Catch what you can use and release the rest to fight another day" Bill dance
