wanna bet wanna bet...poachers poach no they gig everything that moves its how woopes happen..do I need to post the 20 or so videos on youtube? or giggle and pass the bottle.. so its all about the food? and they are passing up gamefish because? EXACTLY its called extreme harvest and has the ability to be abused by a very small % of people and destroy large sections of rivers and that 4# walleye or smallmouth gets passed up because??? perhaps its because the section of river is gigged out..it seems I need to post the videos on just how fast a limit is reached, granted they are experienced giggers but it would make my point then why invest in all the gigging? gear..boat--lights.....etc not everyone keeps suckers to clean and eat... I have seen a big pile of sucker dumped by the side of the road, ramp or bridge...we all have.... IMHO Gigging's time has come and gone just like punt guns for ducks...a few "turds" have ruined the fun for the giggers who are not game hogs...its one reason we are losing access because one way to effect change is get rid of your ability to reach large sections of river....next will be to ban jet boats because of erosion.....you heard it here 1st

I am not the one touting "special rules" because its a tradition.....blackpowder and archery....if the guns were like an 1867 hawkins or a Osage Native americans recurve how many would do it????
-
let me ask everyone...do you think some people don't gig gamefish?...better yet how many suckers get gigged and released because a bigger one gets gigged?...20 fish limit...how many people have limited out in an hour? and yet they are out all night....makes you think
-
then you know what kind of areas you catch smallies then.....and even know the 2 feeder creeks with wild 'bows in them.....somewhere I have a pick of a 4# wild trout I caught and released....was built like the ones in crane.........not many smallies there ether not saying that not bass are there...but its like catching smallmouths in the elk river arm of grand...happens but sure isn't common
-
we all love our ozark fishing and try to protect it from abusers....that we all can agree
-
ever float the 1st 2 miles of spring river in SW Missouri ?......how many warm water fish did you catch? ...habitat is habitat.....bass will seek their most comfortable temps in a stretch of river..Trout supporting streams are cold
-
in a nutshell why can't you spot light deer along as you stay within limits? or shoot bass with a bow as long you stay in limits as harvest is harvest right???? gigging is a tradition true enough... you should have to do it with ancient tech... wood torches...make your own raft or canoe....atl atl only with locust thorn gig....and no modern warm clothes ether..furs and buckskins.....and you have to get to the stream with a horse or wagon or better yet on foot.........then its awesome kinda like modern blackpowder guns.....don't even get me started

Will the State be Selling our State Parks.
MoCarp replied to bkbying89's topic in General Angling Discussion
heads will roll if they sell land to their cronies......we can let it set 100 years and not develop it and it would be a plus IMHO -
true small mouth are in many miles of stream, yet winter holes CAN be pounded to the point larger fish are absent as far as growing big fish..I disagree, with a 3 prong attack (pun intended) of genetics, habitat, and regulations we would see 5# smallmouths in Ozark streams we have more people fishing in the ozarks than ever with that harvest goes up...... Agreed more people are gigging they even have tourneys..with that comes the problems because the water is COLD! same poop different fish.....

From my understanding "all" MDC aspects are under review by the new state admin.......me thinks we will see more changes in the next few years, than in the last 10

not like I have not heard that one a million times...from what I hear Muskies inc is pushing for no-stab on muskie waters, seems they get pretty salty about woopses
-
you know the old saying not all bad people gig....some Bf....... (or jet boat) all kidding aside....it only takes a few to destroy a whole watershed...its unexceptable......whats the answer? back in the day they used to shoot Jaguars in Texas New Mexico and Arizona...it was tradition.....I bet people yatched when it became illegal.....took wiping them out before it happened
-
list to they guy that got a trapping ticket on this and talks about another time getting his bow back....demographics me thinks

ILLEGAL GIGGING: November firearms deer season is a busy time for Missouri’s conservation agents, but other enforcement duties aren’t neglected. These illegally gigged fish were seized by conservation agents Keith Wollard and Susan Swem on the opening weekend of November firearms deer season. Wollard was on routine patrol on the evening of Nov. 14 when he spotted a boat on Pomme De Terre River in Polk County and noticed one of the giggers displaying a large black bass that had been collected. It is illegal to gig game fish. The agents continued to watch the boat for the next five hours. At approximately 1:15 a.m., after the suspects had left the river and were headed to their vehicles, they were stopped and questioned. This resulted in the confiscation of 13 gigged game fish – eight black bass (two of which were over five pounds), three crappie, and two catfish. All three individuals were issued citations. If you witness or suspect a wildlife violation, report it to your local conservation agent or call Operation Game Thief toll-free at 1-800-392-111. – Joe@MDC https://www.facebook.com/moconservation/photos/a.159050652961.118594.5883397961/10153813632842962/?type=3&theater

it boils down to the same old story....."g-paw did it so and Im gonna do it" its not cool to be selfish even if its legal..smallie bigs i'd show him my super secret big fish spots......fish stabbers or freezer fillers not a chance..... want to know why Mississippi has big crappie? perhaps its a 14" min size limit? ever fish a place where fish get released? they get HUGE....harvest = smaller fish....can they stunt? yep...then you let people eat a few.... takes 5 years to grow a huge crappie, 8 years for a smallie.....think about that....we need more stream management, wonder why access keeps going poof people keep wiping out big stretches of streams....how do we know? dead fish...fish heads...beer cans.....etc..... IMHO winterholes in streams should be off limits to harvest hook gig or anything.....if you poach....no fishing for you for 5 years.....harsh? you bet I have seen way to many areas go to crap...I am tired of it....want some food spend 88 cents for some chickenbutt hotdogs

back in the day, an 18" was a toss back....but then again you could drive down the strip in late oct in 10 min because everything shut down...taney still is great but it would be cool to catch 5#ers all day yeah it was like 19" around.... ever catch 20 over 3 in a day or a 1/2 dozen over 5? thats what it should be....should be managed for monsters thats cause you will die fishing in that wake filled with drunks blasting around in 40' "ski" boats fun zone thats what i am saying
-
exactly my point a deer can be grown to trophy size in 3 years a big smally 2x that at least......cool thing about fishing is you can have your fun and not take it from the next guy C&R works...so until tazing deer becomes a fad.... our small fishing has backslid considerably...not just streams...Stockton used to have outstanding Bronzeback fishing that changed....why? who knows but it did harvest kills great fishing....if trout in Taney stayed in you would have a day where fish were measured in pounds not inches.....been a while but used to catch 4 or 5 smallies over 3# on stockton every time out...why is that?..in a nutshell "harvest"
-
it could be FAR better if we had the will to manage it for bigger fish
-
suckers are great sport on a rod n reel...don't have to gig them to harvest some for the pan
-
but it takes skill to fool and land a 4# smallmouth...all it takes is ONE fool in a boat to wipe out a wintering hole.......I grew up gigging flounder in the gulf..its way easier to gig them than catch them...just saying....and your not gig n releasing ether perhaps a test stream with no gigging and compare fish sizes? Your naive to think Bfers just shoot rough fish many a bass/walleye/trout/even muskie get shot ether straight up poached or woopsed.....stabbing is stabbing poachers poach back in the day they used to allow TNT fishing or phone cranking......laws change...just saying
-
was there booze involved? yeah it is and they would have busted you even tossing them back to die if you are out at 3am you will see them amen thats no lie......needs to be pricy to whoops a smallie thats BS the as long as you don't get caught excuse is why people like me and others who think them ol brown fish are special need better protections....

Thought I'd share, my friend pulled a few after blanking for a few times out, all it took was glugging his stick mix... and they were released to get a little bigger for next time
