Fishin' in the cold months .... nothing like it. Solitude and some potential great fishing. I like the Current the best in the winter. I also like the Niangua ..... can be awesome if you catch it right. I'm with Cricket on the Suzy Hole at Bennett. I've been known to ditch the fly rod (yes I said it) to get in on some of that Goggle-eye and SMB action. PC

It started raining in Kansas City about an hour ago. Hopefully it doesn't blow out the streams for the weekend but it doesn't look good. PC

Bennet Springs 10-3 On Way Home From Upper Taney
Paola Cat replied to Thom's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
Hey Thom .... Looks like you had plenty of action. Did you try any dries. I had some decent action (about a week ago) on an olive crackleback fished dry. Man .... I see knuckleheads every time I go down. You're right .... I see same stuff at all the trout parks. I saw a guy last week with a couple of little browns on his stringer. I told him they were undersized ..... he looked at me like I was insane (I guess a trout is a trout ..... NOT) ..... anyway he took-off with those fish like a scared rabbit. PC -
Wrench ..... I hear ya. It's gettin' to be that time of year!

Absolutely cast anything before you buy. PC

Very nice fish ..... job well done. PC

Cricket's right on. The river's up a little and a little off color. It looked real fishy. PC

Got out and spent the day at BSSP. Pretty good day for numbers (not fantastic but OK). The wind was kind of a pain at times. It was overcast most of the day. There's some nice fish in the stream. Brought to hand (3) very nice rainbows ...... 2 on a olive crackleback dressed and drifted dry. The 3rd fish I targeted and got him to hit a peach micro egg. All 3 fish easily pushed 20". Broke off a 4th fish about the same size on large white humpy. Decent action from smaller fish too (enough to keep it interesting). My best action was on the flat above the dam. Only fished Zone 1 today ..... island to the flat. Saw some very large fish but couldn't get any takes from the giants. Spent most of the day fishing dries on 6X. Small crowd. PC

Where Is A Good Place To Buy Flies Online?
Paola Cat replied to MaxDrown's topic in General Angling Discussion
If I don't tie my own ...... I'm with DaddyO on this ..... I think Fly Stop is a good choice. Hills is good and I've also bought a few flies from Big Y. If I have to buy ... I try to buy from shops in the OAF area first. If you can get in with someone doing wholesale ..... Solitude does a good job. PC. -
My observation: Fewer fish than earlier in the year but still lots of fish in the river. PC

Reminds me of the fist time I was bass fishing at Lake Huites in Mexico. It was early morning (first day). We spotted a dark colored object in the water down lake from where we were fishing. Our Mexican guide (boat driver) started hollering and between my understanding of Spanish and a few hand gestures .... I figured out out he wanted me drive the boat in the direction of the object. We get close to the object and it turns out to be a deer swimming across the lake. The guide (Phillipe) fashioned a lasso out of the anchor rope on the ride over to it and when we got close .... he stood on the front deck and then roped the deer (first try). He then proceeded to wrap the rope around a cleat on the boat .... then put the motor in gear and headed to the bank. By the time we got to the bank .... the deer had expired. This guide was a hero in the local community ..... he had a meal that would feed his family for quite awhile. My buddy was completely/totally in shock (almost catatonic) during the whole event. Don't know if it was deer season or if there is such a thing down there. Unbelievable. Nice pic. PC

Back To Indian Point Again. Another Success! 9/24
Paola Cat replied to troutgnat's topic in Table Rock Lake
Wow .... that's painful. I have used Curados and Citicas for years and have never had any issues like that. I'd be placing a call to Shimano .... sounds like a serious defect. I guess I better check mine out. PC -

I think I'll be adding a FLIP camera to my Christmas list. Awesome Phil! Really cool. PC

Had the opportunity to spend a few hours a RRSP today. Fished in Zone 2. Lots of action on EHCs and black beetles ..... but the best action came on a BWO (#18). Started with 6X but had as many refusals as takers. Made the switch to 7X and then it was game on. The steam is in great shape and the fishing was good. PC

Wow ..... Apparently these triploids are big business and gaining in popularity. Apparently Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, and several of the Canadian Provinces have active triploid stocking programs. PC

It's been a number of years since I've been there but .... the Taylor and Gunnison Rivers are fairly close to Crested Butte. Gigantic rainbows in the Taylor below the Taylor Res. dam. Good drift boat fishing for browns and rainbows on the Gunnison. The East River is also close but I have never fished it. PC
