Scott,Thanks,That was a Brown Male 301/2"X21" girth 17lbs 3oz from Taney upper end last fall.Caught on 6X tippet,on a size 18 tan scud.Fight took nearly an hour.First hooked the Toad around the big hole.He took me up around rebar, and then back down just before big Hole, almost had him to net,the Dam blew"that horn"turned on 1 unit, short story,I fought that male with rising water and faster current down to the MDC boat ramp(almost)before he was brought to net. Here's the best part,I owe it all to Chuck Gries from Anglers & Archery! We the Dam blew the horn,I called Chuck at his shop,it was the end of the day and I figured he would be there.Thank god he answered,I have had the priveledge of Chuck as guide in recent years. All I said was,"Chuck I'got a big one going" and minutes later there he was, net in hand as we chased that fish,Chuck expertly netted him,all I had was my cell phone camera,so Chuck took the picture!Lucky me!I hooked& played him 1/2 hour before Chuck came to the rescue. This is why I support Trav so much,it really is a lot sometimes to get that pic of a really outstanding catch/release. Regards,Bruce Omans (Bman)

Thanks for sharing your insights Trav

Trav,I dont doubt your word at all,eye candy is always nice.I know when ya fish by yourself how do ya get a decent pic?lay 'em on the boat/bank,naaa.Pitch 'em up in the air?naaa.Unless you have a buddy,or someone you can impose on no way. How about a length/girth measurement? Thanks for your advise, and posts.I've always wanted to figure out the big Taney Browns when they go hide down lake. Bruce

When I go opening day,I always go just below the park boundary in the river. All the fisherman stirring up the water, throwing bait, gets the river fish going! You don't have to mind the horn and you have the place to yourself! Unless too many fishermen see ya pounding them then they jump on ya.

Hey Troutbum,I see you live in High Ridge like I do.Do you have a pic of yourself so if I see you down at Maramec Springs,I can say hi? I fish Taney as often as possible as well. Bruce

Yearly Jet Motor Maintenance?
Bman replied to Seth's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
I have a 2006 Yamaha 90hp 2-stroke motor,on a Southfork 17 ft boat that is custom made for jets.It is a real lite weight set up. Around Onondaga St Park, hwy H,I have seen lots of those boats with those 225-300 hp motors, and the shoal runners!Wow that would be fun to play with, but they suck WAY more gas than something under 100 hp.Thats a lot of boat to run shallow and narrow water, imagine running one of those babies up on a gravel bar! Have you ever seen any of the River Pro boats made right here in Hillsboro Missouri? They are awesome. www.riverpro-boats.com/ You asked about actual speeds?,honestly I don't really know. -
Yearly Jet Motor Maintenance?

"I read where the stainless impeller just increases the life of it on smaller outboards. The bigger motors are the only ones that have a noticeable performance increase. I'm not sure how big your motor is, but I only have a 50hp Yamaha on my boat." You are right, with your 50hp,stainless steel impellers aren't really reccomended. The stainless steel impeller really helped my set up tho.Eliminated cavitation, and I can jump up on plane quicker! -
Gotcha, that is a very distinctive net,I love mine. That net looks big on me,and I'm 6 ft.That net looked little on you dude, you're a big guy.I've thought of carrying a step ladder with me to help spot the fish. You have an unfair advantage on the rest of us. Regards,Bruce Omans

Yearly Jet Motor Maintenance?

Are you talking about the pump for the cooling system? If so I don't think so.I trust Perry's Marine for jet boat info,He has been in the biz a long time.Perry's Repair 573-732-5563. .I see you are in or near Owensville,Perry's isn't too far away. You could stop by or call him with questions. He's a good guy. Another note on impellers for your jet drive, when pulling a holeshot or jumping up on plane. If you feel the boat "slipping"and sharpening your impeller doesn't help you might have some other issues going on causing air to get to the impeller.A good fix and upgrade in performance(but expensive to the tune of about$500.00 bucks)would be to buy a stainless steel impeller. They are thinner and cut through the water better.Harder, resisting nicks better than stock aluminum. And they are a 4 pitch rather than 3 pitch(4 blades) which draws a lot more water per rev, therefore pushing more water. I got one and will always use them, not to knock the stock stuff which has worked perfectly fine,I'm admittedly a gadget freak. Bruce -
Way to go. Do you carry a S2 Products net?I carry one myself, got it from Chuck at Anglers & Archery at Taney. If so I can recall seeing you down at Maramec.

Yearly Jet Motor Maintenance?

I have a jet boat that I got new from Perry's Marine in Bourbon Mo.It has a 90 hp Yamaha 2 stroke motor. Mike Perry told me if I run it at least once a month, there is no need to winterize. He does advise adding Sta-Bil to the gas,as well as Yamaha's Ring Free fuel additive, year round. After each use, lube the bearing of the jet pump to purge water out! Be sure to check and adjust the shims on the impeller for proper clearence, and operation. Be sure to check the sleeve that the impeller sits in,if it is badly scarred,it is only about a $50 dollar replacement. Here is another resource, these are the guys who have the patents.www.outboardjets.com -
Fished for a few hours before the rain came. Fishing was great as long as I targeted active fish. Not the pods of spooky, leader shy fish huddled together in the pools, poor things they have been beat on. Be sure to use fluorocarbon tippet when fishing down under. Had a blast with a chamois worm as an attractor, and a dropper rig to a little piece of "candy" size #20 egg, scud or wd40. Skipping a wooly in some of the riffles was a blast. There are bigger fish in there,5-6lbs but they don't show themselves easily, and are in difficult to fish places.

Thanks for the pic of Chuck & family. He is one awesome guide and a great guy,who is truely doing what he loves. Wasn't Adam in one of your brochures?

not exactly, the mouse would freeze, then would loose the ability to go by keyboard, and screen would freeze. Hope your pup didn't get zapped.

Center Punch, refer to my Sat Dec 8 report. Are you a machinist?just curious because your nick. Merry Christmas,Bman

I would keep it the way it is with the following exceptions: 1.Single hook in the RESTRICTED area, dropper rigs allowed.Just no treble hooks. 2.All other artificial lures below,no bait.

where my heart is? Tanney! For now the upper Meramec/Springs is closest for Trout.I live a couple miles from a boat ramp on the meramac which is within eye shot of where the Big River joins, caught a 5# smallie there earlier in the year. Hope to retire to Tanney in a few years.

sizes 18&20,colors grey and olive,do you fish the park much?

Freezing rain, temps down to 27 deg...groan at least last years freezing rains brought down lots of weak limbs. And the power co had trees trimmed back near power lines. We will see,at least I have my batt powered laptop. Bruce

Hi AB, Yes pretty much the same for me hear, near Eureka Mo on I44.Tonight temps go lower and rain is predicted...soo freezing rain is very possible. On the bright side tho; 1-The freezing rains of last year brought down a lot of weaker limbs. 2-The power co. sent out crews really butchering trees back removing trees/limbs from anywhere near power lines. 3-The Amish probably can tolerate the simpler way of life better the rest of use...maybe there is a lesson to be learned. Best Regards,Bruce
