Hello everyone! I have to ask a question about fishing Taneycomo. A friend and I went down there for 3 days last weekend and only caught 23 total fish - including a grand total of 1 on the last day. They were all rainbows and the largest was 15 1/2". We're open-faced spinning fishermen and have fished Taney, the White, Roaring River, Bennett, etc. several times over the years and always caught about 20 fish each per day.
Here's a synopsis of our equipment and techniques:
Ultralight spinning rod & reel
4 lb P-line & 4 lb Stren
1/32 oz jigs in olive, brown, sculpin, white, pink, yellow, etc.
1/24 oz brown rooster tails
small crankbaits
super dupers
little cleos
powerbait and gulp doughbait & worms below Fall Creek - both on bottom & under a float
We caught all of our fish on either powerbait on the bottom or the olive jigs. There always seemed to be a fair amount of water running and we tried everything we could think of, except buying a flyrod and giving that a try. Can a spin fishermen still count on catching a lot of fish, or do we need to switch over to fishing with a fly rod? We certainly saw quite a few people flyfishing.
Thanks for the input.
Brian
