  1. you can pickup a used canoe at just about any outfitter on any river. Graig's list or E-bay pretty inexpensive. but the weight is going to be any ware from 65 to 85 lbs. ..... but if you want a light weight canoe get ready for some sticker shock! see it starts off will "you just need a canoe to fish with" so you buy a beater one for cheap! works great ,until you want to take kids or a buddy and some camping gear! now it's too short no room at all... and then since your going to the river all the time the wife gets the bug she wants to go. (she sees all the nice canoes and is wondering why your so cheap and didn't get a NEW ONE) TRUST ME MY BROTHER!! and lord help if you get to like MOVING WATER!!!!! because that's a whole other line of canoes to get!!!! by this time next year you'll have a multi colored pile in your yard!!
  2. your barking up the wrong tree!!! look for a wenonah, vagabond, a wilderness, the fusion .. or a Bell rockstar, merlin II,a yellowstone or a magic , mohawk 13, 14, 15 all are solo's .... don't get sucked into a canoe you'll hate ,and won't be able to resell ..... there is a reason you don't see that little buffalo anywhere !! it's JUNK! and won't paddle worth a darn. there attempt at a whitewater canoe failed!!
  3. it's all mud and wood drifts, in the view i look out at!! ....@ point 12. had some large top water action before the rain in the war eagle arm haven't seen any guide boats, just white bass hunters
  4. glad you had a great trip from the look of it. i know it was a little touch'n go there!
  5. just poke your gun down in a dry bag and load it at night! then unload it in the morning, and poke it back in the dry bag! don't make a big deal about it .... but since your posting about guns on the internet, i bet homeland is already google earthing you every movement????
  6. you can have one... just no bullets in it at anytime your on park service land !>>>>>.... raccoon bandit s are what you have to watch out for!!
  7. it does look good for you!! catching it falling out like this. you might add some top water lures too the list of things to bring with.you'll have the first shot at some fish that haven't been worked since late june!!! ... we are camping at steel creek all weekend to catch the last of the white water that's left... but make out a( float plan) and let some folks(wife ,rangers, outfitter), know about what time to start looking for you to return . >> yeah! i'm Mr. Safety BUT IT'S SO EASY TO DO..... AND SO HARD IF YOU DON'T.
  8. it's still 2 ft. on top of the ponca bridge! and the river is closed. it's in flood ,but should drop out by the weekend. but just a heavy mist could pump it back into flood .... fishing will be way off in the muddy water if that's the plan. on the good side it filled all the holes with new life and that will be great later. i know it doesn't help you out for your trip ...floating, should be good stuff all the way. just camp above a 9 ft waterline and don't leave the canoe down low at the waters edge .(it's the first thing to float away in the darkness!!!) don't load the canoe heavy, pack light!!!! have a good time BUT THINK SMART about camp sites and rain clouds
  9. the gauge is at the other end of the river!... by the time it moves, the water near marble is gone! that section also has two bad low water bridges, the first one the water pushes hard right. the portage is way left side. the second one you just hear! it has about a 6 to 8 ft. drop over, and a" keeper" wave on the down stream side. lots of down trees along the way ... paddle safe!
  10. we are getting some rain ..... don't know if it will do anything to the river here is a link to the water levels..http://waterdata.usgs.gov/ar/nwis/current/?type=flow watch to see if we get a spike. the levels are at a low but floatable level now. ST.joe is just above tyler bend .......... as for the ticks ..STAY AWAY FROM THE TALL GREEN STUFF AT ALL COST AND BRING THE DEET!!.. as for outfitters you have two just past tyler at silverhills .and if you head farther down use WILD BILLS .... tyler and buffalo point both have showers
  11. MID- OCTOBER ..... BUT I CAN POST WHEN I SEE THEM
  12. no water!!! ... no fish..... just tons of seed ticks, and chiggers if you want to float you need to head to the lower section tyler bend or below . and forget the kings it's in the same shape! ....... think TROUT!
  13. you need to use a torch to heat the plastic first (like you do for old towns canoe repairs).then sand the surfaces ( really good ), this will make the patch have a bite . tape off the area around your working spot .make your patch just a little larger than the repair area . i recommend you use a product called G-FLEX.. an epoxy adhesive.... first on the inside, cover the hole with duct tape . on the outside, then lay a wet patch of the g-flex over the damage area, then lay some fiberglass cloth, or Kevlar cloth, then another wet patch over that, then cover the patch with glad wrap and roll all the air bubbles out . 40 minutes you sand it smooth and repeat if the hole is larger than your open hand. ....we just got finished with 85 canoes. 19 more to go ... the G-FLEX is a "west systems" product. two part epoxy ... just make sure you use equal parts ....... hope this helps!
  14. let's brake down this shuttle stuff ... an outfitter has to use 2 people to shuttle ...your car one way! $ 10 to 15 dollars per man hour... plus his shuttle truck.. fuel , both ways< for the shuttle van , insurance> taxes and the park service fees ...oh yes.. you bet ! they just are raking it in!!
  15. sorry to say the only choices you have will be STEEL CREEK . EURBIE, OR OZARK. AT EURBIE YOU WILL HAVE TWO SPOTS ONE AT THE CAMPGROUND THE OTHER IS THE FORD THAT CROSSES THE RIVER
  16. that's too funny!! "rose".. she's always like that... mean, and grumpy!! hey,get some inter-tubes and kick fins do your own trip!
  17. yes, bro ..., Ben milburn will take good care of you, the way the buffalo works is all the fast water is generally from ponca down to pruitt,( the whitewater let's say.) then moving water slows down a bit with longer pools from hasty to woolum. then from woolum down to rush, or the white river it's pretty tame stuff ,all but where clabbercreek runs in. just below rush, and with good water on the lower section that becomes almost a class III rapid. and pretty tricky with a heavy loaded camping canoe...... RIVER SAFETY TIP !>> at the lower water levels it's harder because with lots of water you can make some wide turns to avoid rocks or trees. but in low water conditions, your forced to come up close and personal with all kind of obstacles!... bring some good river shoes. so if you have to get out and walk, due to low water you are able to do so. ...> anyway i hope this helps you out a little!
  18. if you have your own canoe i would shoot for the mt.hersey to woolum nobody does that section >>>( but really you should forget 12 to 14 miles in heat stroke weather ! ) i always say it's easier to make a short float long but there is noway you can make long trip short! two weeks ago we put on some camper for a long three day trip. late the second day they had the rangers call to come get them, they drank all the liquids that the brought for three days in one afternoon! and didn't feel they could paddle the rest of the trip
  19. are you renting canoes? if yes! then... yes, that is just what you have to do. but i think gordons motel is still floating pruitt to hasty. but this will be the last weekend of it ! if you do have to make that long drive you can eat at FERGUSON'S by the gilbert turn off before tyler bend. and on the way back after your float hit the BBQ PLACE ON 65.. DOESN'T LOOK LIKE MUCH ? but it hit's the spot.... you know you can short cut a few ways.. 43 ? out of boxley to 206 and across to 65 .. or cut through jasper turn across the little buffalo and make a fast left up the hill to hasty and across the new bridge. left to hwy 65
  20. >>> me ! sarcastic..... ~ OK .... i am!..... but this first meeting was a fact finder about the concerns the park users have . they want your input , good, bad, and even silly. and the input will be made into the plan and announced in 2014...............> the sarcastic part< sad to say the same things that need attention back in 1977 still need the attention today 2009? ..it's that fast action of the government way i guess.
  21. YES!! .... but, they want "your" in-put as what things to start looking at, from the average park user's view point. and also what impact people are putting on the park! and how they can better service the park user's. but what they "ARE" going to tell you is.. no more poopn' in the woods! ..and leave no trace! ..a, 6 beer limit ... 15 mph speed limits...and it's going to cost you more to come and enjoy it! ...get ready for it....... i tell people to send them emails that say (i can't believe you don't have showers at the camp grounds) and a pay phone at all the put in ' and take outs. and whats up with not having room to park, on any given weekend at any spot on the river. but my real push is why don't they cut back over hanging trees that make up all of the river hazards along the river??( please send them one!!) then have your wife, and kids send them one or two. thanks
  22. was that your silver truck?? ...at carver camp ground. with the ozark angler bumper sticker
  23. HEY!! if you have to eat fish .... GO TO LONG JOHN SILVERS!! ....we know how it is somtimes...
  24. ollie ..rub a little 303 on it, and peel that sticker off the bottom. and i bet i can get 5 or 6 out of it ......... THAT'$ A DEAL !!! (if it was red i would have jumped on it).....................> then again.. i might anyway for that kind of money! you should see what they sell junk rental canoes for with holes rubbed through both the ends for...$$$$$
