  1. i am hardcore! and yes, we are waiting to see what side of the bridge they are going to take .we have our fingers crossed that they take the hill side .but the cheap option is to wipe us out and take the front of our store.that's why the location jump. bulldozers are close!
  2. the river is up in floatable shape @ pruitt
  3. we have seen some pretty bad injuries from the versa boards ...people falling into shallow water and hitting rocks or the bottom real hard.
  4. the problem is still a problem ... they are still doing water monitoring and dye testing along mill creek still . just bring your own water for camping and don't use the river water.or your morning coffee might have a twang!!!............. the problem is above dog patch at HUB community
  5. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cmJkxhn2eg hope you get a kick out of this!
  6. KELLERS KANOES. in marble falls south of the old dogpatch park .about a mile and a half before the pruitt bridge
  7. i jumped a cross the river at pruitt! that's how low it is . the lower end has a little water left. camping is free in the camp grounds but the water is off. have a small heard of elk at pruitt right along the road into the put in.. and were are working on opening a new camp ground at the top of kyle's landing road .right on that corner. our old location on hwy 7 will soon be a thing of the past with the widening of hwy 7 it takes out all the room in front of the building and puts the new hwy 9 ft from the door!
  8. a pfd is your first line in a self rescue situation in water.( you guys) fishing cold water, it's hitting that cold water.just the shock is what kills more of us old guys .with cold water muscle cramping it would make very hard to swim a long ways. more so in a lake setting. another thing be aware about all the pockets are more thing to get snagged on. a floatation jacket may do a better job in the cooler months. less bulk, and you might even ware it?.... American white water puts out a list of all the water fatalities most are no life jacket . the safe boating power squad also has a listing and again not wearing life vest gets them every time! ...
  9. has not set their status

  10. the low water conditions are bad.we have been missed by every single rainstorm all summer and fall . but, a heads up!! i would not leave a car at spring creek landing ..... seems to be a problem area! late winter we float hwy 14 to rush on full moon trips . that being said if you pay close attention to the river and zig and zag watching the bottom depths you can float without getting out at all.. but, if your geared up to wade through some skinny water. carver to mt.hersey.the shuttle blows.. but that would be my target! . oh yeah i think they just shut off all the water in all camp grounds for the winter.
  11. swift water rescue by slim ray. a great manual for water safety.
  12. have been seeing a lot of surface activity just around the bend of point 12 in the river arm. and at blue springs bridge the past few mornings. the water above the twin bridge is almost gone due to the lack of rain .... beware of shallow river conditions!
  13. sorry i dropped the ball on the canoe class. my wife took a fall out of her wheel chair, and i have put my life on hold to help her. she's ok but looks like she went a few rounds with Mike Tyson... she's purple head to toe..
  14. the only two camp grounds with hot water showers are tyler and buffalo point . but all camp grounds have water and a bathrooms. looking at the forecast you might need rain gear?...we have a large rain event coming in
  15. I'm waiting to see how many wanted to take this class, and then to find water suitable to our needs. and be close enough to make this smooth as possible for everyone!! and to accommodate the paddlers skill level matched to water levels and conditions for a fast paced course .....because my spots are dry as a bone.. so i have been scouting waters and last weeks flooding hasn't helped ........... so you want in on this?? speak up ! at this time it looks like the sat. of Sept.25Th is going to be our date. and i could move it forward to the 18TH. if needed..
  16. yes it does.. and YES
  17. please send me a PM. with your names and addresses ..... last call!
  18. was it the orange one(OLDER) ,or the yellow one?(NEWER) last year they were free with a 2 years program //one nice feature is you can set them up and have your trip monitored on your home computer so you can mark spots along the way, AND THE WIFE CAN TRACK YOU . AND AT LEAST RESCUE PEOPLE HAVE SOME IDEA OF WHERE TO START LOOKING...have you priced any personal location beacons ? it's hard to find one under $500 and lord forbid you need life support .they will find you faster than timmy and lassie could!!!..... just price a life flight helicopter ride? that a great deal you should jump on it... as a matter of fact you should pick one up for me while your there!!!!!!!!!
  19. I'm flexible... but the weekend of the 10th. 11th. and 12th
  20. please give me a count of paddlers that are going to plan on making the class so i can order class materials and private message me me before paying for your ACA memberships
  21. THE RIVERS..... ELK,JAMES,FINLEY, OR GASCONADE. FEES:.. A MEMBERSHIP TO THE AMERICAN CANOE ASSOCOTION. GO TO THE LINK I POSTED ON THE TOP OF THIS .this covers the insurance fee .and I'll discount my fee form $ to just $ because your helping me out....fair enough?
  22. this will be a level II. RIVER CANOEING CLASS.. and i'm looking at the weekend of september 24th. if that works out with the group?.. so who's paddling solo, and who's paddling tandem. and who needs me to bring a canoe for them? at this time i'm not sure about the river that will work for us . but i'm thinking about something spring fed .i'll do some rive homework to come up with a river site with camping/ or motel setting... i need a real head count so i can order study materials.sooner the better thanks.
  23. I have paddled the sections above rush at 9 to 11 ft. many times it's always dark muddy water .if the rain falls at or near the head waters you cold have 16 to 24 hours before the rise hits. but if the whole water shead gets 1 to 2 inches it could be on you within hours. rule of thunb for camping along the river is 6 to 9 vertical feet above the water line. and don't camp on a bluff line. if the water comes up you have no place to go! make sure you pull the canoes up high so the don't float off in the darkness as you lay in the tent thinking about did it or didn't it rain enough.. and stop by the ranger station to let them know your in the wilderness section, and what day your comming off the river(it's called a float plan) for safety..you can also leave a note on the dashboard too.in the bad event you get flooded do not try to walk out!!sit tight at your camp site..(because you told the rangers about your trip) they will come looking for you most likley they will come up stream from the white river in a power boat.. extra water and food for a day or two might be a good idea also.....
  24. ..don't know about any video. but I may have to travel to find some moving water. and i'm guessing all my new students are from the SHOWME STATE. so you might be in luck..ALL MY RIVERS ARE DRY. not lucky enough to have all the spring fed stuff you guys have. need to find something with some rapids deep enough to do self rescue swims ,and shallow enough to sink a canoe, and be able to re-cover it. got anything that just jumps out at you? over your way.
  25. ok guys, looks like we have the intrest. and thank you ZACK for the support!! ...rather than sending IM'S OR E-MAILS i would like to show the process here out in the open if you don't mind so all can see how this works. (if you don't mind.) first what kind of canoe are you paddling now? tandem or solo.? next, what types of water do you paddle.. lake..slow moving.. or fast rushing water.(this helps me understand how to put the groups together) next question would be, what do you want to learn.. paddle strokes ..boat control.. safety on the water..most people can make a canoe move. but just make it down stream with the shear luck of the river gods.. other feel they have skills, just not sure on where and how to put them in action... next, do you understand how to read the water on the river? so please give me a short report about your skill levels. and what part of the country your from .
