  1. the main thing would be the rain! with flash flooding being the main concern. and to find camping spots high off the water. a good first aid kit, and clean water, or filter system.and the take out! i like to go down stream and not have to fight the currents from all the generating.coming out at ships ferry .. i also would make a float plan and call the ranger station 1-888-692-1162 to let them know your on the wilderness section and make sure you call them back to tell them you are off the river as soon as you can. as for strainers, and down trees, you bet they are out there!
  2. river herpies....
  3. 2.45 TODAY AND CLEAR WATER... GREAT FOR A RIVER TRIP
  4. man the choices are endless!! paddling .net has a good list of paddle makers and reviews. be careful most people get one that's too short !! i would suggest you test a few of your buddies out before dropping some major coin on one just to find out it's all wrong...and don't let some slick salesman sell you a LEFT handed one by any means!!~~~~~
  5. put a pad down on the floor, and get down on your knees, then spread your knees out to the side. resting your cheeks on the seat lip, if you really want to see the canoe maneuver! and then try to put a little weight on the knee, of the side you want to turn into. i bet the smile on your face will be PRICELESS!!
  6. floatthebuffalo.com they can help you out with current levels, and river conditions. and your shuttle srevice
  7. if your talking about the kind you peddle forget it ,the rocks will do damage. other than that i would use the one you like the most?... at lower levels you won't have any problems traveling down stream. on the other hand at good, (higher)level the water is a little pushy in the upper sections. say, from ponca down to ozark, is the" white water" part of the river. the rest is just smooth sailing other than the low hanging limbs. and shallow spots..... the pruitt gauge should be close to the 4ft. mark to have a great run the closer to 3 ft. the bottom comes up quick in spots. ...not sure if i helped or added to the confusion...
  8. crooked creek in july?... you better have a back-up plan! that time of year..
  9. leave the yo-yo's at home!!! they are outlawed by paddlers. .. right now that section is just under the flooding levels water is dark muddy color, not the gin clear it should be. the dew is very heavy so wet mornings will be the normal thing .
  10. that gauge is at the down stream end of the river, by the time it goes, the upper has dropped out. camping along the river is hard not too many places to camp on.right now it's in flood stage, or just under it. and if you want to see the new land you'll need to go up stream from hwy 62 bridge. (in Eureka Springs close to the passion play road, is a shape corner, rockhouse rd shoots off from that. take it all the way to the end turn left. about a mile and a half on the right you'll see a dirt road. take it to the first left it's the outfitter for the kings! ) good people! they have camping area's and can do shuttle for you.
  11. nice link... but it doesn't up date fast enough. and isn't a true indicator of the levels with false readings like today...

    Hello

the problem with the kings is not too many camping spots along the river, and most of the land is privite. call ernie at kings river outfitters and ask him .
  13. pull out of the camp ground entrance, turn right 100 ft. ....silver hills canoe rentals.I don't fish that section much but a crawdad pattern always works for me
  14. get your river map and check it out. we camp about 5 miles down stream from buffalo point on river left. this leaves you about 2 and a 1/2 miles to the take out makes for a good lazy morning... time to let the tents, and gear, dry out before packing it all away. also helps if rain gets you to be close to the car... just don't go pass the take-out at rush.(river left) other wise you have two more nights on the river. and a really long walk back to the car!
  15. right under the bridge in jasper. on the little buffalo .you can walk the banks
  16. lots of choices down that way,..hwy 14(dillards ferry) to rush, is one we do all winter long. this is the last section before the wilderness section that goes to the whiter river. it's slow and easy floating
  17. i fish all the time? i just don't post about it. .... but rest assured I'm king of 10 inch fish!!!
  18. good deal! glad your back in the water!!!..i got pretty darn good with it after patching about 80 canoes over the winter .
  19. i have been thinking about getting a trip together ?... any intrest in an over nighter, or just a day trip? and maybe one for the guys without a canoe. what do you think?.... WHO WANTS TO GO WITH?
  20. it was too low for a good float. but not so low you couldn't catch fish. got rained on 4 times .. strong gusty winds made it good to re-fish a spot,as the wind would blow me back up stream without paddling dark sky most of the day. but managed to land more than my share of good sized fish ,for that far up river..with one fish ,that was as big as my canoe paddle blade.. made the old ultralight sing!! stripping drag. I'm still smiling about that one!!all in all caught about 20 fish in 4 1/2 hours.
  21. http://www.westsystem.com/ss/g-flex-torture-demo/ we get quart cans. and you want the thick stuff it's like gel,.. not the liquid stuff
  22. .... all is fair when it comes to fish!... besides you can't see the girls they are talking to from hooters of kansas city, that are rubbing sun tan lotion on each other!! ....but he won't show those pictures
  23. NO...money just gets in the way with MY RIVER KARMA!!
  24. set it out in the sun that should do the trick... if not add some weight on the popped-up part and let the sun take over............and yes if the out side layer is damaged at all, you will need to patch both inside and out. other wise you might get away with only the inside.the g-flex is very sand-able if you make a mess!! just don't get in a hurry. make your duct tape out line on the repair, heat it with the flame. sand it good, make it a rough spot with 60 or 80 gritt sandpaper. mix part a to part b equally and apply, i use a bondo spatula to spread out the mix about a 1/4 inch deep remove the tape before it sets up and gets hard. other wise you will need to cut along the taped edge to remove it... simple fix!! you can also use the left over to make skid plates with if you want. just do the same way and you'll have a good looking repair
  25. west systems has a product called G-FLEX.. they call it an epoxy adhesive .2 part component you have 45 minutes to work your magic! first if it's an old town you will need to heat it with a few passes of a plumbers torch, not to melt it but to break down the molecules to except the patch materials then a good rough sanding to the areas to be patched. use duct tape to out line the repair, and mix and patch! this material dries clear but very glossy.... and will look milky if the humidity is high while it drys.....or you could bring it by BUFFALO RIVER CANOES on hwy 7 south of harrison @floatthebuffalo.com and i can fix it for you for about $90 dollars... the g-flex is about $75 for the kit.
