  1. Well, other than wiggling it around in the basement, I've not gotten to cast it yet. Bad weather, out of town, or something!! I feels like a very nice med fast action. even though it is a fatter blank, it weight the same as my Loomis 4 weight GL3. I think I'm gonna like it. This one is a 4 wt 9 footer. 6 inches longer than my Loomis. We'll see. Trying to get down to Bennett some monday here soon to try it out. We always baby sit the Grandbaby on the weekends so I'm thinking monday would be good to go. I notice you have been going down there quite regularly. Did they get lots of rain last night???...to mess up the fishing
  2. Paola Cat, Thanks for the egg info. I'm going to get some yarn at Cabelas on the way home. Sounds like I need to get down there and fish zone 3!!! Can you fly fish there during the regular season?...never done it for some reason.
  3. Looks like the selection I've been working on this winter. Figure I tied about 200 since sept. Now working Deer hair Caddis. You should do well on those flys. Don't forget the Cracklebacks!
  4. Thanks for posting the report. I would have loved to have been down there. I figured there would be plenty of fisherman with the warm weather. I'm going down some monday here soon I hope. I am a little new to egg patterns. I did catch a couple last time down on the "easter egg" pattern you get at the Bennett store...the weighted one. What egg pattern do you use? Size? thanks
  5. Nice Blog Greg! Thanks for the report. I'm still planning on getting down there this month. Been under the weather lately while I had time off for the holidays...wouldn't you know it. thanks for the report, guys. I also have learned to make a checklist now from reading about some of your experiences....LOL
  6. Just curious what fly did you tell him to use?
  7. thanks for the report. I gotta go down there soon.
  8. NICE fish! thanx for posting.
  9. Barclay looks like nice spot. Does it get crowded?. I would think the summer would bring out the aluminum hatch.
  10. hfdhoosier, Glad you caught fish and made it ok. This time of year you never know that the weather is gonna do. It's suppose to be 40 today so i really should be fishing....darn work. I have a new wading jacket coming from Cabelas this week so i hope to get down for a day sometime. It will probably end up being a monday after the holidays. I was in Bass Pro sat and there was a pic of a 12 lb Brown caught at Bennet a few weeks ago on 7x tippet and a size 20 midge of some sort. HUGE fish. 4 Weight rod I think.
  11. Well Dennis, how was the fishing??? The weather here in KC was BAd as I'm sure you know. I'm hoping to get down to Bennett sometime over the holidays but who knows. I have some new secret weapons to try out! (it does require a small amount of C4 :-) ) No Luck, come out of the woods, man! The fish miss you! LOL ALSO if anyone is going to Bennett this winter please post. Jerry
  12. What's an Olive PMS? I would love to get down there but this icy weather is making me just want to stay in and tie flies.
  13. Olive PMS??
  14. Bob, Thanks so much for sending the second care package showing the tail tie in. It is going much faster now. I have 20 tied. A few more and I'm gonna tie some more dry flies. thanks again for all the help. They look VERY fish-catching in the water.
  15. WOW!..and I tied flys all day. Thanks for the uplifting report.
  16. Got the rod yesterday. those Chinese make a beautiful rod. It's a9 ft 4 weight. It's snowing out so no practice. I also have a Gloomis GL3 4wt. 8ft 6 in. I put both rods together in the basement and played around with then a little. To my suprise the`RS3 is just slightly slower than the loomis. The Loomis is considerably thinner but the RS3 only weighs 3 grams more.. GL3= 94grams RS3=97grams I think this is going to be a nice rod!
  17. Paola Cat. thank you for the info! I have been wanting to try nymphing so now this will give me a start. I did try some zebra midges this summer with a little success. If what they say is true about nymphs being the majority of a trout's diet then I guess it's time to start concentrating on them.
  18. Paola Cat, That's my favorite way to catch 'em! BTW, what's a good nymph down there? I need to tie some and try nymphing. I just have done it very little.
  19. Anyone else tied on of these yet? I think I'm making too much work of this? Mine take awhile to tie. I'll try tieing the tail in seperately then palmer a feather up the hook shank starting about mid way like my sample.
  20. Rusty, You got me on that one, man!!! Real good!
  21. Thanks for the report. Wish I was there! Gotta get some Copper john's Gotta love those small cream midges. I just tyed 20 more of them. I'm thinking of trying the trick with the Scotch Guard. Soak 'em and let them dry.
  22. Bob, Thanks for sending the fly! Since I had all the parts I started tying a couple. I think I have it right. the tail looks to be tied in vertical like a fish tail, then I palmer the rest of the feather up the hook to the eye. I keep pulling the marabou backwards, towards the hook bend, as I wrap so when you're done the feathers are angled slightly back. Hope i got this right. It looks like yours. this thing must have some great action in the water! I have never tied on marabou that way before but it looks good. thanks, again Jerry BTW, my local fly shop had one pack of the Wapsi marabou in stock. Cabelas and bass pro had none. Not the easiest to find I don't think. I would love to try some light brown ones with dark brown stripes.
  23. Well, I did it. I had 10 bucks off and they took it over the internet so I ended up free shipping. So 99 bucks total. I hope I like it. The reviews look like it is good. Especially for 99 bucks.
  24. Oops! I didn't know they were closed. I went down for 1 day last month and really did not check. Fishing is done at 4 so I was home by 7:30. We'll all keep in touch.
  25. Whoever goes when please post when you're heading down. Maybe some of us can get together. I have been staying at the Bennett Springs Inn for 40 bucks if I stay overnight. Hot shower and warm bed is nice.
