Trizkid, Nice report. Don't let those knuckleheads get to you. I'm sure he was runnin' his mouth just to show off to his buddies that he was the "top dog". On a side note, did you hear any banjos playing? Back to fishin, how were the stream conditions. According to the charts the stream appears to be running a bit high. Later, FFM

I just read about this new "land" law signed yesterday (March 31, 2010) by the Governor of Utah. The law allows property owners the ability to post No Trespassing signs and to keep people off of any streams that run through their land. I do not how this compares to the Missouri law, but if other Western states allow Utah's lead it will most certainly cause havoc on the fishing industry. What are your thoughts? Below are links to an article about the bill and a link to the Rocky Mountain Fly Fishing forum talking about the new "law". It appears to be up about 4" from the last rain and the flow is a a bit high but okay. You may have to cross the stream with caution with the higher flow. But it should be fishable. Later, FFM

BMan, That was some great advice, but there is something else to remember as well. If you want to leave the park and fish in the river, for a bit, remember to leave your stringer of fish caught in the park in the park section. If you wonder down stream with a stringer of fish you could get a ticket from the freindly conservation officer. To the officer, he does not know where the fish were caught, he only know that you are keeping fish and they may not be the right size to keep according the regulations in the Blue Ribbon section. I hope that makes sense. later, FFM

Looking For A Certain Strike Indicator
flyfishmaster replied to Adam B's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Adam, Many years ago I heard of guy using a thing called a "Casting Bubble". This was for spin fishermen that wanted to throw out very light flies. I did a search for it and found that Cabelas has them and they do come in a clear color. Clink Here for the LinK Later, FFM -

Well this will be my second year in a row that I will not be able to make it of opening day. Before I went 12 years straight. In past years, I have fished in the High bank area to start and I have had very little problem with other crowding me. There is always at least one jerk every year that step in your way, but after about 10 cast over their line, they usually move. Yes, I do classify it as a "social event" for me. Plus I enjoy see so many other having fun. Later, FFM

I just read an article about a new tungsten soft weight by the name of MoJo Mudd. It is designed and produced by a fishing guide in Colorado. I just wondering if anybody has tried it and how would you compared it to the other soft weights in the market like Loon Deep Soft. Later, FFM

jah, Like you I have not revolutionized the streamer fishing at all. So I have little to no input on how to better that style of fishing. I do have a questions though, how was the water on the Current this weekend. According to the charts the flow was a bit high. How was the clarity? later, FFM

Msp Fishing Report 1/31
flyfishmaster replied to flyfishmaster's topic in Maramec State Park/Springs
Bman, I actually did not see any stacks at all around the spring branch. The last time I was there was back in Jan 2009 and to me it appears nothing has changed. I did notice the cable was not across the stream and I did see this one guy throw up under the bridge a few times, but not enough for me to go over and talk to him. Later, FFM PS: I sure wish they would make from the first bridge up to the falls (below the actual spring hole) fly / catch & release ONLY!!! -
My cousin and I hit MSP for a few hours on our way home from BSSP. We arrived at 1:45 and fish until 4. The current was very strong and the clarity was very greenish with about 1 foot visibility. We started down stream fist but could not find a single fish to take. So up the bridge we went. There were multiple people there but we found some room to squeeze in. My first 20 cast produced 7 fish on a Mercy Pheasant tail and scud (both were size 20. I landed a few more on Red SJW. My cousin was able to nail a few at the firs hole (we call it Lazy Man's Hole). Fishing was decent for the time we were there. That is all for now. Later, FFM

My cousin and I started fish the High Banks area is Z2 around 11:45. The water was up (I'm guessing 6-8") with a clarity of about a foot and the current was strong. So as you can guess the objective of the day was go deep and use a lot of weight. We nymph fished the entire time using many pattern from our fly boxes (I did say many right?). We did catch enough fish to keep it interesting, but we were contently changing flies because there was not one fly that stood out on both of the days. On Saturday afternoon, we ventured down to Z3 and land a few fish as well. We finished the day on the Niangia (can't spell) after the whistle below. But we were not able to bring anything to hand there. On Sunday we got to the park around 8:30 and fished Z1 below and rock falls. My cousin found a spot and it was hot. I thing he land 10 fish on 15 cast and the other casted he missed fish. I fishing all around him for about 30 minutes and I could only managed to find 2 takers. He had to change out his taper leader so I stood in his spot. And yes it was the hot spot because I was able to land 9 fish in less about a 30 minute time span. But nothing of any size, 16" was the max. At lunch time we took off and hit Maramac Spring on the way home see the other forum for that fishing report. So over all it was a great 2 days, we landed fish in some some rough water, it was great to see all the snow and the "Blue Bird" clean skies were incredible. Later, FFM

Accidentally Snagged Fish
flyfishmaster replied to ozark trout fisher's topic in Conservation Issues
I'm always good for atleast 5+ snagged fish on each trip to a stream. And I agree with Tim. I'll break off the bigger ones but I can usually get the smaler skating on top of he water with in 15 seconds. I will always land them in the net to help speed up the process of releasing them. later, FFM -
Trizkid, Which areas of the park were you able to fish in? Later, FFM

Chief, As far as I know Westover is still in business. Here is a link to their website: WESTOVER FARMS Over the past year they have started up Fly Fishing classes and the instructor is Walt Fulps ("The Missouri Trout Hunter"). Plus they have completed a few of there log cabins and they can now be rented out. IMO, the prices are a bit steep, but their location is very secluded. Later, FFM

jah, i wonder if you are taliking about the John Deere mini jig or the "Bedspread". Those are two flies that I know about and only hear people using them at BSSP. Later, FFM

Are Droppers Legal
flyfishmaster replied to ozark trout fisher's topic in Maramec State Park/Springs
Here is one more thing to think about... what if you do fly on 33 flies. I have about a 30 seconds average time to tie one a fly. So that comes out to 16½ mintes just in setup time. Then on your first cast you get caught up in a tree and lose all 33 flies. If the flies are all purchased at an average cost of $1.10 each that would come out to $36.30. That makes for a long and expensive day. Later, FFM
