  1. It will be interesting to see what happens in Conn. where the designation is in tact. I'd like to see if they get improvement grants, if the river-way improves, if tourism increases and if the various agencies become more efficient working together. I'd also like to see if UN forces invade our friends in New England and claim the watershed for the rest of the world. Haha.
  2. I tend to think this is all much ado about nothing.
  3. marabou jigs in various colors (1/16-1/8oz), smaller crankbaits (rebel crawdads are great) that dive deep, some rooster tails in various colors and heavier to get down a little more. A minnow trap can catch you bait below the trophy area.
  4. If you are camping at the canoe rental and doing a day trip and wanting a chance at both smallmouth and trout, I would choose Whitten to Riverton. If you are going to overnight it and want both species, I would go Cane Bluff to either Turner or Whitten. Just as I described in the previous thread..
  5. I always am an advocate for taking your gear and camping along the way, but I would be happy to have you camp at the canoe rental as well. That said, waking up on your fishing hole with no one else around is a great way to start the day.
  6. If you fish for smallmouth on that stretch, you will probably catch some, but no as many as you would above Greer spring. The closer you get to Riverton the better the smallmouth, but regardless, you will probably catch more trout.
  7. I would do Cane Bluff to either Turner or Whitten. Cane Bluff to Greer (7.5 miles) is fishing very well for smallmouth. Greer to Turner (5.5 mile blue ribbon) has been a little hit or miss lately and Turner to Whitten (6.5 mile) is getting stocked regularly now that summer is here so you should be able to catch plenty down there if the blue ribbon fish are not biting. You might not catch a ton right now in the blue ribbon area, but the ones you do catch are beautiful fish.
  8. Just the mill on hwy 19, there will not be a hammer or nail within 3/4 of a mile of the spring branch.
  9. Cane Bluff should get cut out Fri so it should be fine for your float.
  10. The smallmouth fishing at Cane Bluff is the best though. By the way, on weekends we take a lot of boats out at Riverton and yes we set up pick up times, but we are pretty much there with a team all afternoon until the last group gets in. So we have 4 o'clocks showing up at 6:30 and it is not a problem. So there is not a real difference on weekends, though we do drive people 15 minutes back.
  11. It is going to need to be a big project. We are supposed to have a historical preservation experts come in let us know just how big. You will be able to see pics on our facebook page and our web site (when it is ready).
  12. Cane would be good this year as long as the forest service gets up there to cut a couple of trees that fell up there over the last 2 days.
  13. Guys We have recently started an organization called Friends of the Eleven Point River which will work on projects with the forest service to make improvements on the Eleven Point River. Our first project, which will consume all our efforts for the first few years, is the saving and restoring of the old Greer mill built in 1899. We will be launching a web page in a couple of weeks, but in the meantime we have set up a facebook page. Seems I can't add links here, but if you go to your facebook page and search Friends of the Eleven Point River you should find it.
  14. Stoneflies and Don's crawdads are staples on this river year round to catch trout on this river. 4-7 ft deep is pretty common depending on the hole you are fishing. Marabou jigs are an excellent thing to use here on spinning rods,. but they are killer on a fly rod as well up to a 1/16 oz. Your rod choice is spot on. A sink tip fishing woolies and maybe a few other streamers could catch you a few as well. Golden stones are phasing out in favor of brown and black. Bring prince nymphs, red fox squirrel nymphs and a few other generic nymphs as well. Some caddis pupae will be good to have also.
  15. If you are too old (not healthy enough) to drive a car, then it probably is not a good idea to be running a motor boat either.
  16. Down to about 2500 cfs and a slightly lighter shade of brown. Could posibly put people in by Wed, but more likely on Thur. If I can, I may do a kayak from Cane Bluff to Greer to make sure the route is clear as I have some groups planning to start up there on Monday.
  17. They got out fine. Due to the forecast, I had them camp at Turner and was therefore able to drive down and pick them up when it became obvious the river was going to get too high.
  18. Crested at close to 9000cfs and now for the decline. Will probably take a few days to get safe again.
  19. The river is blown out as of today and hopefully will be fishable by late this week before the weekend. It is running brown and rolling very fast. I'll give updates on the levels over the next few days.
  20. Not really, the pontoons keep it stable.
  21. The upper river from Thomasville to Greer is fishing well for smallies now. Get that new kayak of yours up there if you get a chance.
  22. There are smallmouth up and down from that access. The amount of water and the flows will be your biggest challenge. It is fishing well from Cane Bluff to Greer, but it is too small a water for most john boaters up there. Though I do know of a few that run up there with the right water, but you need to know real well what you are doing up there.
  23. I also have kayaks and a few rafts. I would advise calling in advance and reserving them before coming at 417-778-6497.
  24. Max is pretty well right, not much dry fly action. Stones and marabou jigs are very good. Golden stones in particular lately. Don's crawdad, prince nymphs and other larger generic nymphs. Streamers on a sink tip in a few select shoals has been producing lately as well. The blue ribbon also extends about 1/4 mile up from Greer access to the mouth of Greer spring.
  25. Retail shops charging a cover at the door? haha
